"Yeah. I will call you when I get home. I'm taking the city bus today." Kate held her phone up to her ear as she walked down the long hallway.
The teachers were gone and the lights were almost all off.
Kate has night school, meaning she stayed after school to do extra work, hoping to bring her grades to balance.
She was on the phone with her sister as her bag dangled down to her waist.
"Alright. I'll see you when you get home. Be safe," her sister says. Kate made a kissing noise before hanging up the phone. As she slid her phone in her pocket, an eerie feeling washed over her. As if someone was watching her.
She turned around, hoping, praying no one was there. And no one was. Kate nodded before continuing down the long hallway. Kate likes walking home or riding the city bus. It gave her a view of the beautiful skyscrapers.
Kate's heart dropped when a sound of something falling behind her sprinted into her ears.
She quickly turned around, speaking with a stutter. "Wh... wh... who's there?" Kate looked around, sweating more than ever. Her fingers were shaking as she turned back to the directions she was headed. But she stopped.
At the end of the hall stood Madison. Kate could tell it was her.
The short hair, skinny body... the knife in her hand.
Kate slowly began backing up, unable to see Madison's face in the pitch black in front of her. The light behind Madison made her seem as if she were a shadow, a 3D one.
"Listen Skitzo! No hard feelings," Kate says. Madison tilted her head a little and began walking forward. Kate screamed to the top of her lungs, running as fast as she could in the direction she came.
The feeling of wind, embarrassment, fear all washed over her, making her want to throw up. Kate took a few turns before running into the bathroom.
It was nothing but silence. Kate covered her mouth, losing her breath for her own sake. Her sweat-stained her eyes with pain as she waited in the stall, hoping Madison was just joking around with her right now.
Kate's eyes were wide and red as she looked through the crack of the stall.
No one was there. There was no other sound of anyone who was there. Kate took a quiet deep breath and sat on the toilet, thinking she'd have to spend the night in this bathroom.
Kate then looks through the crack again. Her heart began beating out of her chest. Her eye met with Madison's eye.
Madison was looking right back at her. Madison had this, this, lifeless stare.
"STOP!!! LEAVE ME ALONE!" Kate began banging on the stall door before noticing Madison's converses under the stall.
Tears began forming as Kate thought she'd lose her life today.
She was banging on the door, screaming, pleading for her life. From Madison's shoes visible, Kate thought Madison wasn't moving.
Little does Kate know, Madison used her shoes as a distraction, she. Met eyes with Kate to get jaw to scream and pound on the door to make noise so that Madison... could crawl under the stall and slide into the one Kate was in without being seen or heard. Kate began crying even more.
But then she stopped. In the small little metal piece you slide to lock the stall door, Kate saw Madison behind her.
Madison knew it as well. Because when Kate saw Madison, Madison was looking right back at her through the reflection.
As quickly as the lights could cut on and off, Madison put the knife through Kate's neck. Blood began spilling from Kate's mouth and nose. Madison had the blankest expression.
Madison grabbed Kate by the hair and began to saw at Kate's throat, getting her blood all over her hands. "Shhh.... shhh," Madison says.
Kate was dead. Madison let her corpse fall to the ground, hearing footsteps run into the bathroom. "What's wrong?" Mr. Butler asked. He pulled the stall door open so fast and hard, but there was no sign of Madison, the dead body of Kate anywhere in that bathroom. As if nothing happened.
Butler looked confused before turning to walk out only to be met with a knife to his eyes.
