Chapter 2 - Two

"Well, this seems to be the place where I will be living. A bit rundown but it seems cozy."

A boy with black hair stood in front of the apartment where he was moving into. Looking at the piece of paper in his hand and back up at the building, he shook his head, making water drop to the concrete under his feet. Walking up to the door and trying to open it with his key, he dropped them and he grumbled. Not realizing someone was behind him, he kept trying to open the weathered door.

"Need some help there, sir?" a voice spoke up from behind him.

Startled, he spun around on his heel and saw a tall, tanned, redheaded girl in an all black outfit carrying what looked like two bags of cat food standing on the sidewalk. He nodded before stepping away from the building to give her room.

She walked up the steps in quick strides before she opened the door with her own key, stepping inside the building. The boy just stood there, a look of confusion on his face.

"Well, come on and get inside. Less you want to catch a nasty cold in this weather." She said before switching the bags to her other shoulder.

He followed quickly after her, taking in the sight of the building's interior with a gaze like that of a child.

The carpets were a dingy reddish color with equally dingy white walls, almost gray now. The mailboxes were a pale blue, some with rusted hinges and others with locks. Some hung wide open and a few had no doors, long gone with the way it looked. Not much could be said with the creaky, wooden stairs with a broken banister that looked like someone kicked it apart.

The boy didn't realize that the girl was halfway up the stairs by time he stopped looking around.

"Oh, um excuse me, miss but I was wondering where apartment 19 was."

The redhead stopped and set the bags down before turning to look at him.

"It's on the tenth floor. You new to Cape's Bay, I take it?" She asked him.

He nodded, his hair swaying with the movement before coming to a rest.

She motioned for him to follow her until they reached the tenth floor where the boy now lived. He took notice of how tall she was when they stood side by side. Her tanned skin was the color of light coffee and her hair was Crimson Red. Her eyes were that of Dark Chocolate with the hint of violet when caught in the light.

"We're here. 19 is the fifth door on the left. Everyone has an intercom that can be used to call other apartments. Certain numbers that are on the list next to it are scratched out. Those are empty and always has been.

I live on the 13th floor. If you need anything, just buzz Apt. 33." She explained to him.

"Thanks. I'm Daniel, by the way."

"Xavier."

He waved before they parted ways and he opened the door to his new place. Looking around the place before he kicked off his shoes, he made sure to lock his door. The first thing he did was check out the rooms. The living room was a bit bigger than he expected while both the bedrooms were of equal size. The bathroom was a bit smaller but Daniel didn't seem to mind.

After he was done looking around, he went to one of the bedrooms and saw that his bed was in it. Going over to his bed, he opened the box next to it and took out his bedding. Once his bed was made, he laid down and fell asleep.
