Just another rainy day, I guess. I do hope it won't put anyone in Cape's Bay in a foul mood. Maybe I'll visit them today and see how they're doing.
This was the thought that Xavier Sin had on her mind as she walked down the wet pavement toward her building on her way home from school. She was known on the streets as 'The Silent Sister' by the little kids that often played in the streets when there were no cars. She was given the nickname after her presence and demeanor scared off a local gang from kidnapping a little kid about seven years ago. Now that she was older, she ran the streets local supply, making the Cape a safer place for product trade.
Her Crimson Red hair was always up in Twintails and she had a mask pulled off to the side when she was walking through the Bay. Her outfit was always fitted with an oversized leather jacket and platform sneakers. No one in the Bay knew why the mask was necessary but they never questioned it as the wearer was always sweet. Although one thing always stood out about Xavier.
Strapped to her back was a large ax that had a blade made from an unknown metal. She was the one who made product trade grow in the Bay, giving the less fortunate shelter and money for food. The Cape is a neighborhood that sat tucked away in North Bay City in North Bay, New York. A small, ghetto-like neighborhood was often overlooked by people against trading in a neighborhood like the Cape, until Xavier came along and got some people on board with trading with Cape's Bay. Anywhere from homemade clothes to other necessities were traded for food and often money. It was nice to the people of the Bay.
The Cape also had a hidden underbelly beneath it that was only known to the Cape's Bay area. Anyone that lived outside North Bay City never heard or read about it since it was so hush-hush. Most of the locals would take a hidden passage that led to a big open area that had a concrete platform where people could perform. Xavier was one such performer, and a very good one at that. Sometimes, if it's the weekend or if school had a holiday or something of that sort, she could be heard from her window on the 13th floor of her apartment building. Her voice was soft and gentle when she sang from her window but it changes when she is in the Underground. She was a great rapper when she was in the Underground, even the kids would try to get there early if they knew or heard that she was performing that night.â------------------------------------------------------
"I'm home, my babies!" Xavier said as she stepped through the door of her two bedroom apartment.
Placing her bookbag on the floor near the front door and kicking off her shoes, she walked across the wooden floor toward the wall hammock that sat in the living room. There, laying curled up in a ball was a black cat. She smiled before tapping on the hammock with her fingers, signaling to her cat that it was her since Phantom was blind. The cat stood and stretched, yawning in the process.
"Where is your sister, Phantom? Where is Yokai hiding, huh?" Xavier playfully said, petting the black cat while it purred with gusto.
After petting Phantom, the girl walked over to the opened kitchen and opened the fridge. Pulling out a bottle of water, Xavier felt something against her leg. Looking down, she saw Phantom's sister, Yokai, rubbing against her leg for attention. Letting out a small giggle, Xavier leaned down to pet the white, shorthaired beauty and saw that the food bowl was almost empty. Sighing, she refilled it before realizing that the bag was now empty.
"Looks like I have to make a trip to the market. Hopefully I can afford your food, guys. Shit's getting expensive and I may have to change it to something cheaper."
Going back to the door of her apartment, Xavier said goodbye to the two sisters before grabbing her keys and weapon, leaving after locking the door. She walked down the stairs to the first floor from the 13th floor where she stayed. She was the only one that stayed on that floor since it was known to be a haunting ground to the local people. Xavier didn't mind it since she liked the quietness of the empty floor and often took a walk around the floor at night. Once outside, Xavier slid her headphones over her small pointed ears while she headed down the street toward the rundown building that was the ĐŒÎ±ŃĐșΔŃ.
Kids were laughing and playing in the street as there were no cars heading down it at this time of day since there wasn't much space to maneuver anyways. Some of the kids ran down the sidewalk toward the redhead before going around her, continuing their game of chase. Humming along to the song that was playing, Xavier pulled the glass door open as she stepped inside. The rain seemed to stop its tantrum for a bit as she was a bit wet but didn't seem to mind it.
Going over to the aisle where the pet food was, she crouched down and looked at the prices of different cat foods. She pulled out a bit of cash from her jacket pocket and realized that she didn't have enough for the food for Phantom and Yokai.
"Shit!!!" she said under her breath before she angrily huffed, getting up and moving to the cheaper stuff.
"Everything alright, my dear?" someone said from near the end of the aisle.
Turning her head to where she heard the voice, she saw that it was the store owner's son. Breathing out a less angry sigh this time, she shook her head before answering his qÏ Î”sŃÎčÏη.
"No, the cat food that I usually get for my cats is more than the last time I was here."
"Ah, I'm sorry to hear that. You can usually afford it, right?" Dax said with a cocked eyebrow.
"Not this time, I don't have enough money from the last time I came here. I get two bags but since the price increased, I can no longer afford this brand." Xavier said, gesturing to the bags on the bottom shelf next to her.
"I cannot believe that they would do this to our regular customer! Your cats deserve to eat the food they like!" A booming voice came from behind Dax, startling them both.
Behind the boy was none other than his dad, Mr. Glowstone, and the owner of the little store. He walked up to the tall, tanned girl and gave her a reassuring smile. He told his son to pick up two of the bags that sat near the floor and motioned the two to follow him to the register.
"For you, I won't make you pay full price for this. It's just stupid that they would do this to someone who made Cape's Bay a better place. What are they doing to this generation's youth?" Mr. Glowstone said with a grumble.
After paying for the food, Xavier went to pick up the bags of food before being stopped by Dax himself. She was confused at first but then realized that he wanted to help her out. She politely declined his offer and picked up the bags with ease, much to the astonishment of the boy.
"Hahaha! That's Sister for you, such a stubborn and strong girl." Dax's dad said while smiling at his son's expression.
"I didn't know she was that strong. How?" Dax said to his father.
"She has always done that before you worked here. It's because of that ax she carries."
They went back to work after they watched the girl leave the store and walk down the street back home.
