Chapter 91 - Curing Boadicea

Usually, the group's travels included the chats of all the men who talked about their wives, families, achievements, dreams, etc, however, this ride only had an eerie silence that blanketed the cart.

Although the men had managed to move on and start the trip towards Mifis, they still hadn't overcome the macabre night and Leon didn't blame them, as losing friends was something the villagers hadn't ever thought about.

As Leon watched the men grieve over their fallen, Leon had to look away as he felt a tear itching to make its appearance, as Leon remembered Max and Dan. However, after a few seconds, Leon remembered what Max said about not being too sad at their deaths and thought about the new friends he had made since then.

'Once again Max, Dan...it seems I can't protect everyone yet.'

Around the peak of noon, the group started to see a couple of clusters of villages that signified that they had entered Mifis's outskirts, but they didn't stop and one of the men asked why.

"Chief why aren't we stopping in these places? Are we going to the main part of Mifis?"

The old village chief merely continued to scan the newest village.

"Well, I'm merely trying to find an appropriate place for a doctor. Although in the main part of Mifis, there will definitely be a doctor that can help Boadicea. However the prices will be horrendous, so if we can find a skilled doctor in the outskirts the price will be greatly lowered, but a lot of the villages we passed don't look very promising."

With those words, the men continued down the main road as they passed more villages that continued to become bigger and more populous as they headed further down the road. After another two hours of traveling, the old village chief finally told the driver to stop and they pulled off the road.

The village they had just pulled into was much bigger than any of the other ones they had passed by and even Leon thought this could be an extremely tiny city. There weren't just houses, but a variety of shops that were around and even a medical building that was more than just a simple hut.

It even looked like it had a little building for administration as it had the words: "Town Hall" on a building that looked like a church in the middle of the village, but the old man got off with his cane and a bag of coins when the cart stopped.

The old village chief looked at the cart and looked conflicted at whom to bring. Currently, there were only three men left, plus Leon, so the old village chief looked over at Leon and hoped that Leon would do another favor.

"I know this would be another time, but can you aid this old man once again and help carry Boadicea and come with us to the doctors? Even though I'm sure they wouldn't try to do anything funny, with an adventurer around I doubt they would be tempted to try to jack up the price."

Once they entered the outskirts of Mifis, Leon actually could have left the group as the main part of Mifis sent regular patrols that guarded any villages within MIfis's borders, so he no longer had a duty to protect the group like before. However, Leon truly wanted to see the grandpa and granddaughter pair, once again smile so he had stuck with the group so obviously he didn't mind coming.

"Ah, don't be so humble. I originally wanted to see Boadicea cured as well, so obviously I'll come with you."

Promptly, Leon got off his horse and tied it to the cart, before he gently scooped up Boadicea who looked like she was fighting demons as her entire face was damp with sweat as her body temperature soared. The old village chief was once again stunned by Leon's character, but quickly regained his composure and looked over to three men left in the cart.

"I'll be right back, please watch over the cart and both horses."

Although the men would've also gone down with their village chief, they were incredibly tired after a night of chaos and sadness, so they didn't mind the opportunity to simply sit down and watch over the cart.

Leon followed closely behind the old village chief, as he felt his boots slightly imprint into the sand mixed with dirt that was the ground. They walked up to a relatively decent-sized building with three segments and a small second floor, which made the old village chief come down to check it out since the size of the building was quite big.

The old village chief walked up the double wooden door of the medical building that had a giant symbol of a green cross at the top of the door and saw a sign that read:

"Come in! Someone will meet with you inside! For any contagious illnesses please walk around the back!"

Boadicea was very sick, but after spending more than two weeks with the group no one else had gotten sick including the old village chief who took care of the sick girl often. So they opened the double doors and saw that there were no other patients in the main lobby, but there was a man in his twenties behind the desk with the words "Apprentice" on the front of his shirt.

Originally the man was reading a book, but the moment the group of three walked in, he looked at them before putting down the book. When he saw that the group wasn't here for a normal stitch job or medicine, he got up and raced to find his master and doctor.

Seeing as they would be waiting here for a while, Leon took in the surroundings of the building. It was rather plain but newly built as the wood looked like it was polished recently. A deep aroma similar to Agnes's garden drifted through the air, as Leon could tell the building stored a lot of herbs and plants. The building itself had no one that Leon could see or hear since the building was really silent and no one else was in the front room.

After a few minutes, Leon could hear two sets of footsteps coming down the stairs and a tall man the same height as Leon appeared from a door on the right of the group. The doctor looked like he was quite young and couldn't be older than thirty-five, but he had a certain aura that made Leon feel like he had been through a lot.

The doctor walked towards the group of three with the short apprentice walking just behind him. When he got closer, he went straight towards Leon who was still holding Boadicea.

"Is this the patient?"

The old village chief nodded and asked the million-dollar question.

"Ah, yes it is. Are you able to tell what's wrong?"

The doctor didn't say anything but got closer to Boadicea who had once again passed out, but before he did anything he looked towards the old man.

"Can I examine her?"

The old village chief smiled.

"Please do."

With that, the doctor led them into the door he had come from. Leon got to see what looked like a series of small rooms that were separated by curtains. The doctor led them to the nearest one and asked Leon to set Boadicea down on the nearest examination table made of wood with a cushion on top.

With very expert hand movements, the doctor took the pulse of Boadicea and also felt her forehead, when the doctor felt the heat coming off the girl's body. He frowned and looked deep into thought, suddenly Leon felt the presence of mana and saw the doctor sending his mana into Boadicea's body.

After a few minutes, the doctor finally sighed and turned to face the old village chief and Leon.

"I know what's wrong."
