"And you know what? I brought the book that you wanted- they released a new volume! You'll definitely like it." Ai said as she gently rub the wet cloth on Shinichi's face.
"So wake up.." She spoke in low raspy helpless voice, a tone full of sadness that pierced through her heart.
"Excuse me, I need to check his vitals and blood pressure." The nurse entered Shinichi's private room.
Ai nodded her head as a sign of agreement and then she stood off a little.
She watched the nurse quietly but a few moments later her eyes gazed upon Shinichi's pale face for the nth time of the day.
And just like always, she felt an enormous pang of guilt rushing through her veins up to her mind.
Ever since the accident, Ai could not help but to shoulder and blame herself on what happen to Shinichi almost every day.
If only she was quick enough to warn him about a man standing behind him, pointing a gun towards him- if only she didn't stiff back then.
If only..
Ai heaved sighed deeply as she pushed aside her never ending guilty thoughts and a hint of memory lane.
Those remnants of the past will not help her nor Shinichi. Not in any way.
That day, she thought she was a goner too, thank God for Shinichi's father who was there to pick his son up.
They were supposedly going to Ran's birthday party but the horrible accident happenned.
Lucky enough, the criminal was killed by Shinichi's father own hands as he was furious to see his son in that condition.
In his defense, the man was going to shoot Ai so he definitely save Ai's life.
The police understand that he killed that criminal accidentally and he's just trying to protect her and Shinichi. Plus it was an act of self defense.
Shinichi was rushed to the hospital for first aid- he's alive but the bad news shattered their hearts, Shinichi's parents and hers.
He was in coma, the bullet hit some nerve in Shinichi's head that brought him in this kind of situation.
The parents later on decided to bring him in America where the equipments are technically more advanced than the Japanese hospitals could offer. They brought Ai with them, which for the record, wasn't that easy- especially on Ai's condition.
Shinichi's father and mother did everything to hide Ai's identity with the help of Professor Agasa. They couldn't just leave her in the country, they knew that Shinichi wouldn't like it- leaving her behind, unarmed and alone.
They left Japan without telling Mouri's Family, few people only knew what was the backstory- Inspector Megure, some Police Officials and Professor Agasa.
Detective Kudo Yusaku personally told them that no one should know what happened to his son, with his connection, and position- it was easily obtained.
He was worried about Ai and Shinichi's conditions, and about the black organization.
Ran and the junior detective squad was left confused, full of questions because of their sudden disappearance.
Ran was mad, furious to be specific at first- how can Shinichi did this to her again?
Leaving her - clueless.
Strange enough, her madness turned into a worried feeling for the guy she truly loved
She just put an idea inside her mind that this is just one of Shinichi's disappearance facade. That maybe, Shinichi was just somewhere in earth- investigating about some cases.
"I'm done." The blonde nurse smiled at her.
"Okay." Ai's simple answer as still glanced at Shinichi's face.
"Will your parents be here later?" The nurse asked as she wrote something.
The staff in the hospital thought that Shinichi's parents are Ai's too, so basically- they're siblings.
"Yeah." She was quick to respond again.
The nurse stared at Ai's direction, she watch as the little girl walked towards the patient.
'Poor little girl, she must love his brother so much to the point that she's protesting to let him go.' The nurse's thought.
Shinichi was declared brain dead, the apparatus is the only thing that was keeping him alive.
Honestly, his parents was already losing their hope that their son will wake up after Shinichi being in a coma for two months.
It has been five months since he was declared that he's in a coma, Ai was the only one who refuse and pleaded Shinichi's parents to not pull out the machine that was giving him life.
"Please, I beg you- he will wake up soon!" Ai emotionally said to Shinichi's parents.
She won't let anyone dear to her die again, especially Shinichi- not him.
"Shiho--" Shinichi's mother was cut off by Ai's words.
"I know he will wake up, he's strong- you should know that, of all people- you're his parents.." She sighed deeply "and, he wont leave her alone- he promise her that he will come back."
Shinichi's parents saw the pain in the child's eyes, not the sadness of him being in this situation but something else- it was different.
And with that, they made a decision- they will keep him alive, even if the doctors were already did everything to save him.
"Shiho!"
Ai quickly look at the door, she saw Shinichi's mother bringing her food and clothes.
She sighed again.
Everytime she entered the room of her son, she will shout- that's because his mother believe that if she do that, that will wake him up.
Shinichi doesn't like the idea of his mother shouting, it always aggravate his mood which is why in the end- he will gave his mother a loud groan in protest.
"Hey." Ai smiled a bit, a tired smile and Shinichi's mother knows that.
"How's my son? Still acting like Sleeping Beauty?" She's always like that, trying to light the mood up and it was always working.
Ai didn't answer, she just watch Shinichi's mother-Yukiko caress his son's hair that are bit longer now.
Sadness was visible on her face, seeing her son in this kind of situation was enough to make her feel so much pain.
She missed her son so bad.
Ai closed her gaze and looked away as she cannot gaze upon the heart clenching scene anymore.
