That month was quite fun for Adam. Unlike the training camp, it was far less competitive. He was allowed to hang out with his friends during activities, and acted lax during lessons since they were already things he'd been taught. Now, all that was left was to be deployed to the field.
"Alright! All of you will be sorted into three-man cells! Your group number should be appearing on your watch!" [McGiven]
Just as he said, Adam's watch lit up with the number 4.
"Find your group mates and follow the instructions given by the watch! Dismissed!" [McGiven]
It felt a little irresponsible for the uniformed man to just up and leave, but no one really cared that much. Perhaps it was because they were used to Mr. Frank's attitude.
"Hey! Anyone part of group four?!" [Adam]
It was difficult to determine his teammates since everyone else began calling out their own numbers as well.
("Man, I'm just gonna move to a more open space.") [Adam]
Adam then distanced himself from the class.
"Team four over here!" [Adam]
He continued to repeat that until two people squeezed out of the class and approached him.
"Wait, you guys are team four?" [Adam]
Staring intently, Adam didn't think his teammates would be Brandon and Sora.
"No girls, huh…" [Brandon]
"Sora is close enough to one." [Adam]
"...What?" [Sora]
Brandon nodded.
"Game is game." [Brandon]
Sora stepped back with a shocked expression.
"Guys?! Game is NOT game!" [Sora]
Adam missed these days of fun. Although, it was still surreal to him that it was nigh impossible to tell Sora apart from a girl.
"Okay, I think that's everyone. Let's check our watches." [Brandon]
Adam looked at his watch to see a confirmation pop up. It read: "Press CONFIRM when with your squad.". Without questioning, they all pressed CONFIRM. It then switched to a paragraph and a map to a specific location.
"Is this a gps?" [Adam]
"Looks like it." [Brandon]
Reading the paragraph carefully, it appeared that they were to go to that location immediately.
"Looks like a fifteen minute walk." [Sora]
"And it's outside of the school campus." [Brandon]
Sora squinted at the watch.
"Hold on, I think I recognize this place. Isn't this the teleportation center?" [Sora]
"Huh? Are you sure?" [Brandon]
He inspected the coordinates closely.
"Oh shit, it is!" [Brandon]
"That's pretty neat. I guess we get to experience teleportation today." [Adam]
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
Following the watch's instructions, Adam and his friends went to the teleportation center. It was a large white building, shaped like a cylinder ascending to the sky. Inside was bustling. It appeared that there was an excess of uniformed people moving about, entering and exiting elevators as they pleased.
("What do we do now?") [Adam]
There was no reception. Though, Adam was able to tell people were getting around by scanning their watches on the elevators.
"Huh? Adam?" [???]
Adam felt a tap on his shoulder.
"Who-? Oh." [Adam]
Adam quickly found that the entire class also came to the teleportation center.
"What are you guys doing here?" [Adam]
"Probably the same reason as you." [Felix]
"Any idea on what to do now?" [Adam]
"Try checking your watch." [Felix]
Adam heeded his words and checked his wrist.
"Well, would you look at that?" [Adam]
The watch had text that read: "Objective completed. Awarded 10 points. Press CONFIRM for the next task.".
("This feels like a video game.") [Adam]
Just like before, Adam pressed CONFIRM. It then gave him the new instructions: "Enter the elevator and use the teleporter.".
("...Free points? I'll take it.") [Adam]
"Well, I gotta go. See ya later, Felix." [Adam]
Felix gave him a nod as Adam pushed his teammates towards the elevator.
"You guys have the same task as me, right?" [Adam]
Brandon and Sora checked their watches.
"Yeah." [Brandon]
"Then we should get going." [Sora]
As they tried to enter the elevator, the three found themselves unable to proceed.
"Hold on, there's no button?" [Brandon]
Brandon inspected the walls, but could not find any way to access the elevator.
"Can't be." [Adam]
"There has to be a way." [Sora]
They loitered around the elevator, unsure of what to do. It wasn't until a passerby came and raised his own watch that the elevator opened.
"...Oh." [Adam]
