Chapter 1 - Anne Buckner

Anne Buckner was born in a noble family of the country Celestia. Her parents, Mr. Ander and Mrs. Sabina sent her to the noble academy, however Anne disliked the society there. It was filled with pretense and deception of holier-than-thou aristocrats.

The students there pursued hedonism and had open relationships. Days and nights they would party at mansions, while millions of the peasants suffered away.

Anne, who still had some sense left, perceived her colleges with utter disgust. "They lacked discipline," she often regarded them with cold eyes.

Unable to adapt to this academy, she then pleaded her parents to enter Maia, the Imperial Soldier Academy where middle-class youths usually attends. Her parents shockingly responded,

"What devilry is this, my child!!" Mr. Ander shouted aloud upon hearing the proposal from Anne. Angrily, he kept banging his cane on the floor in impatience.

Mrs. Sabina covered her mouth in astonishment with her white lace gloves. In disbelief, she fainted at the proposal.

"What have you done to your mother, Anne! Stop at this moment with your trickery!! You ARE not applying for Maia."

Mr. Ander called for the maids to take care of his wife. Anne, not backing down, pressed further about her cause.

"But father, what is to be done when we, noblemen, do not live up to the honor of nobility! At the Academy I saw the people of our kinds throwing unfinished cakes away and bathing in a jacuzzi while our fellow countrymen starve to death in fields. They had no sense of duty at all, Are you sure, father, that those are the ultimate kind of life I am distained to live?"

At first she was unsuccessful in convincing her parents, but with her perseverance, one could say her greatest trait, she starved herself away in her room to protest; Mr. Ander and Mrs. Sabina could not do anything to stop her, and eventually they complied with the request.

Thus Anne entered into Maia Academy and learned a lot of things about instruments of war. She strengthened her disciplines. She trained hard, psychically and mentally. In her third year at this Academy, she was promoted to one of the commanding generals of the student battalion.

Celebrating her twentieth birthday with this notice, she felt that she could do anything to change the world. At the party, her admirers walked nervously to and fro, and fearfully congratulated her. One of them was Alexis.

He looked at her vehemently with his blue eyes; gave her a bouquet of chamomiles without saying anything. And he ran away, blushing. Everyone looked at the scene and giggled at the confused Anne.

"Who is he?" Anne asked Circe, her best friend at Maia Academy.

"A good-looking lad from the first year," Circe said, smirking at her. "Apparently he is now engaged with Janet in our class though, what a daring boy!"

"Then I won't do anything unscrupulous then," Anne replied to Circe, and also to herself. " I hate men like this the most."

"I've never seen you liking any man so far, Anne. I would hate to see you become that capable aunt who does everything by herself in her fourties," Circe asserted in jest.

"I am afraid that is your own fear," Anne sighed.

AND thus concluded her birthday party.

We must understand this: Anne did not know that her parents secretly used their connections to make the principal agreed on this promotion. So in a technical sense, it was the gift from parents to their child. Not an ordinary gift for a twenty-year-old girl.

No students dared to question her integrity, but rumors, as their nature usually were, floated adrift in the air. Despite this, there was no question that Anne should get the title, for she worked the hardest, and was the number one student recognized by elders at the academy.

That at least was a justifiable reason for her promotion.

The student battalion was formed for the first time to back up the main army against the revolutionist force called 'Wolf.' The Wolf was established by bitter peasants and lower-class citizens who believed that wealth should be redistributed.

That was their first proposition, but later on it became the abolishment of the nobility and the government.

As the situation kept escalating, the entire Maia Academy halted all the schooling. They had to utilize the student battalion in order to bring order back to Celestia.

Anne's eyes lightened at the prospect. She was in charge of her platoon(48 soldiers). And her camp was situated at the Masmerford province, 3 hours from the capital city by trains.

In this manner, her teenage life had ceased and began the maddening life of war and romance.
