Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: The Clueless Youth

The sky was dark and gloomy, large chunks of dark clouds hung overhead, as if the sky had fallen.

In the Empire of Dazhong, the small town of Guya, the young man stood motionless in the courtyard, his legs buried deep in the snow, his hands grabbed the fence, the face of a handsome white with red from tension, clear and bright eyes look forward.

The darkness swallowed the earth in circles, the roads leading from the city were covered with snow. There were no people, but only whiteness spread.

Night came, and the boy reluctantly moved his gaze, raised his wrist to check the time, and in three steps returned to the house, his legs squeaked under him, and there were long traces behind him.

"Is the sun shining today? Our Tianxun is starting to worry about his sister."

A woman's voice drifted from home, soft and calm.

"It's dark, okay? Where's the sun?" The teenager muttered and stomped off the snow on his feet and walked into the house looking at the woman and said in a gruff voice: "and Dad."

The woman was the mother of the teenager, a young and beautiful woman who, for all intents and purposes, was no more than thirty years old, and the teenager was fifteen years old, and at one point he wonders if the woman was really his mother.

"It's not completely dark yet. Maybe she's already in town."

The woman smiled and placed the plate of food on the table, then turned around and pulled a towel from the wooden shelf to wipe the water droplets from the teen's hair.

The teenager lowered his arms to his chest, squeezing his head and allowing the woman to rub his head like an irritated sack.

He didn't quite understand why his mother didn't seem worried at all, even though his sister had already awakened but his dad's leg was bad and it would be very bad if he didn't come back before it was completely dark.

"Okay, okay, mommy's going to find someone to pick up your sister. Don't worry."

The woman seemed to see into his mind and gently tugged at his little earlobe, smiling as she carried the steaming pot out to the kitchen and the teenager sniffed when he realized it was his favorite stew of braised pork carrots.

"Mom, I'll do it."

He quickly went to get the pot from his mother and took it to the table and set it down.

"If you're hungry, eat first. I'll be right back."

The young man looked back at his mother and saw that if he had eaten first, he would have been in the kitchen all morning, helping her but he had no appetite for it.

"Mom, am I coming with you?"

"You're in charge of watching the house."

His mother's answer was predictable. The teen knew very well that being a normal human being with no strength and no speed was not useful for many things, so he couldn't help but shrug his shoulders and bite his lip as he stared at her.

His mother took the money out of the brown metal box, counted a few pieces, threw them back, placed the box on the dresser, took a gray trench coat out of the closet, put it over her body and walked out of the room.

"It's okay, Tianxun, don't worry, ordinary beasts can't hurt your sister, trust mother."

Mom put clothes on, caught long dark hair from her back, straightened it several times, stared at him and smiled: "Mom noticed that Tianxun's hair is as dirty as chicken coop, but it's nice and even more handsome."

The mother turned around and came out, bent slightly, tapping her toes like a goose "flying out" of the fence.

The teenager looked in the mirror, grabbed his head and went into the courtyard. He stared at his mother's disappearance for a while and patted his chest, but he didn't feel relieved. His heart became more and more depressed and fearful. It was a terrible feeling that hadn't existed in his previous life, and certainly not in this one.

The young man, whose full name is Mu Tianxun, came to this era three years ago and suddenly has a loving mother and father and a beautiful sister to protect him, and the first thing he does when he wakes up every day is to pinch his own ears.

It's been three years since he woke up to his new life, making him feel unreal. Dad's going fishing, Mom's doing housework, and my sister and I are going to school and practice while helping Mom gather vegetables and firewood.

But he knew that this happiness was the result of his father's years of hard work and his mother's countless days and nights of management, and, of course, in his heart, his sister's contribution was the greatest.

Because he wouldn't awaken, he was inevitably bullied by his peers, and after some hindsight youngsters were taught a lesson by his sister, they figured out that Mu Tianxun was Mu Qianxue's brother, and then... there was no then.

Half a month ago, the small town of Guya, which had always been quiet, was in turmoil, with six people dying overnight and then people going missing continuously. People judged from the remains of the corpses found in the mountains behind the city that monsters had entered the city.

Not going out of town was fine, but Dad had to go back to town, and my sister insisted on picking him up, and as usual, she left town early in the morning, and normally would be back before dark, but tonight....

"Don't let anything happen, don't let anything happen..."

It was forty-four steps from the courtyard door to the house door, and the young man was praying and walking back and forth, and the courtyard was a black path of water that he stepped on, but his mother hadn't come back yet.

"It's so annoying!"

When he shouted inexplicably, he went to the woodshed to pick up two pieces of firewood, threw them into the stove, and turned around to run into the night.

Out of the courtyard, he suddenly stopped and turned back. He rushed into his mother's room and picked up the iron box. His eyes rolled a few times. His hands lifted the box and pushed it to the top of the wardrobe. It was just a little bit closer that the iron box fell off.

Ouch....

Unbiased, the metal box hit him squarely on the head, and his fair, smooth forehead instantly turned a big chunk of purple, which hurt to look at.

He snorted and started to grab the box. He was very stupid. He caught it. But the next second, the lid of the box was released, and the money was scattered all over the floor.

Mu Tianxun was stunned. He turned the box over and hurriedly held the money in. He pushed the iron box into the bottom of the cabinet with a "Hua" sound. He got down to have a look, got up and rushed out.

The cold wind mercilessly tore at his clothes, and like a wounded kangaroo, he jumped forward with one leg high and one leg low.

The neighbourhood was brightly lit.

On a cold and snowy night, it was a good thing to have a few drinks, as bars of all sizes were loud and lively, and the sound of music was the most boisterous of all, so Mu Tianxun came to a bar, patted the residual snow on his body and walked towards the door.

"Good evening. Would you like to have a drink and talk about life or ask someone to help you with your business?"

At the entrance, a young lady in red uniform greeted me with a spring breeze on her face, using a crisp voice to recite the proficient stage words. Mu Tianxun flashed a glance at the beauty and asked politely: "Hello, may I ask if there was a woman who came to ask for a Demon Slayer to slash a demon...".

"There was a business deal with a great beauty that didn't go through." The young woman interrupted and said in reply.

Mu Tianxun's eyebrows lightly frowned and glanced at the smile fading on the pretty girl's face, asking with a hard scalp, "Why didn't the deal go through?"

"Five thousand yuan to get out of town to pick up people. It's not enough to buy a bottle of wine to amuse us."

He shuddered and turned away from the bar to run towards the next one with the same result. His mother didn't find anyone to pick up his sister.

There are five bars in Gurasia City that are qualified to kill demons, and three that have security services attached to them. Mu Tianxun didn't go to the third one, but he stood in the street, his mind confused, his fists clenched tighter and tighter, and an urge to punch himself in the head arose in his heart.

Going home or out of Town?

There were two roads right now, and after a few seconds of annoyance and a glance in the direction of home, he took off running towards the south of the city.

Although he was not awakened yet, after three years of training, he was still in good physical condition, and ran to the south exit of the city in one breath. The flickering lights on the high hill were like ghost fires. He swept a glance around, and dived out from the right side of the hill.

About five miles away from the city is a forest. When Mu Tianxun came to the edge of the forest, he saw a dark shadow coming this way, he was so scared that he shifted into the forest and stuck to the huge tree.

The shadow swept over him and stopped on a branch, seemingly not coming for him, and while he was rejoicing, another shadow came streaking over him.

"The city is under martial law, I suspect someone is on night patrol, so don't come looking for me."

"I'm here to tell you, just take care of the bottom and don't worry about the top."

"Is it still in there underneath?"

"Look out for yourself, and don't forget your own identity."

"Understood."

The conversation ended as if nothing had happened, as shadows swept across the treetops.

After the shadow left, Mu Tianxun turned around and ran out of the forest, but he didn't understand what was being said, so he felt strange about the situation.

Oww....

Running as fast as he could out of the woods, he didn't have time to take a couple of breaths before a horrible shriek came from behind him as he collapsed on his knees in the snow.

A rhinoceros scurries up to him, puts his mouth on his head and smells him. It stretches out its front hoof and smacks him so hard that he flies and rolls a few dozen meters away.

Mu Tianxun try to get up and run away, but before his feet move, the rhinoceros beast appears in front of him and looks at him with a look that seems to say: you are too weak to run away.

Yeah, too weak to run, but run nonetheless, and Mu Tianxun glared at the rhino beast and changed directions to keep running.

The rhino beast seemed upset. With a kick, he flies up again, this time higher. The rhinoceros rolled to the ground below him with his mouth opened and waited for his prey to fall into it.

Shaking his eyes to see the blood-red maw beneath him, Mu Tianxun was so frightened that he lost six of his seven souls.

Just like that? Muddle-headedness comes and goes, that's really sad.

When he left the city, he thought he was going to die... but when he faced death, his heart was so sad... it would be a lie to say he didn't miss his beautiful life.

A few tears fell silently as he closed his eyes and let his body fall away...

Doh!

It hurts!

Is this what it feels like to die?

Falling into the mouth of the rhinoceros beast, it was as if an earthquake had occurred inside Mu Tianxun's body, his internal organs turned over and roared, followed by a heaven-shaking roar. The rhythm of his head was about to explode, and then he was spat out by the rhinoceros beast.

What's going on?

Do I taste that bad....

When he rolled over, he was covered in mucus and smelled like he wanted to vomit, but he gulped down the spit and stared straight ahead.
