The next morning, I had made the decision to head to the fairies in the Nifar Forest to seek medicine that could possibly help to hold Rowan in check. If anyone had a cure, they did. I told Quinn of my trip and he understood.
Before I left, I stopped by Sasha's shack. I lightly tapped on the door and she answered, looking slightly upset.
"Yes?" she asked grumpily.
"I just…" I started, but saw how upset she looked. "You alright?"
She wiped the tears from her eyes and I saw Sebastian sitting in the background giving me the glare. If it was because of him..
"I'm fine," she said stubbornly. "You look like you're leaving as well."
"I need to head to the Nifar forest," I said. "Who else left?"
"Alistor and Eve to the city of Nifar."
That would be why she was upset.
"Why are you going?" she asked.
"I'm going to see if the fairies have medicine or a potion to help control Rowan," I said.
I saw Sebastian stand.
"Are you going alone?" he asked.
"Aye. No need to take anyone else along on a boring trip that might be useless. Why?"
I saw this pique Sasha's interest. She was in desperate need of adventure and so was Sebastian. I sighed. I needed to go alone even if I did want Sasha's company. She looked back at Sebastian.
"Go," he whispered sadly. "Someone will need to stay here and make sure no one tries to take our shack. Perhaps within a week you will grow tired of him anyhow."
I felt bad for Sebastian. I knew Sasha brought a part of him to life and that, deep down, under all his insecurity, he loved her. She had once been stricken by him too, but now she was torn. I would do everything in my power to push her away from me. I was no good for her. I didn't deserve her. Not that Sebastian did either, but if she had to choose between the two of us, he was the better choice.
"She will," I said seriously looking him in the eye. "We are just friends, Sebastian. I swear."
He said nothing and just stood there as she packed. I could see how conflicted he was about his decision.
"If you wanted to go too, I could have someone from the band watch it for you," I offered. "You look like you need an adventure too."
He smiled grimy.
"How's getting a potion for you an adventure?" he asked quietly. "Besides, it gives her time to decide."
"I'm not trying to steal her," I whispered. "I respect your relationship, Sebastian."
He said nothing as she came to the door brushing past him. The way he looked at her with a haunted look on his face made my heart ache. No matter if he treated her like a flower, he did love her and wish her the best.
"Take care of her," he said sternly. "I want her back in one piece."
"I swear," I said.
We walked over to my horse. I mounted first with her behind me wrapping her arms lightly around my waist to hold on. Why did I have a feeling this journey would be a lot more difficult than I had meant it to be?
