Chapter 1 - Chapter one-Past

They say your life can change in an instant. At age fourteen, my life was the picture of perfection. Two loving parents, a wonderful little sister, a nice house and car, friends the works. My father, Charlie, was a prominent lawyer in our town and one of the best in the state, the all around nice guy. You couldn't help but like him. He was so easy going and friendly and very passionate, especially around us, his family. My mother June was an artist. She was amazing, creating portraits and landscapes with her brushes and paints. My sister Julie and I use to watch her for hours as she worked, lost in our own little world.

The summer before I started high school, everything changed. I had just graduated from Farrow Middle School, excited that I was finally going to be in high school. As I walked on stage to get my award and graduate, I could hear my family cheering for me from their seats in the auditorium. I looked to them and smiled so brightly and waved then walked off stage and took my seat. After the ceremony, my best friends, Sara and Marge, were sitting next to me, chatting away about what we were doing this summer. "Guys, I can't believe we are officially in high school." Marge said gleefully. "I know right. I can't wait to get my hands on all those boys. High school boys are so much better than these turds we had to deal with here." Sara exclaimed. I just shook my head at her. " You do realize said turds will be going to the same school as us too?" I tell her. Sara makes a face in disgust and just shrugs her shoulders.

"Karlie!!!!" my mother yells from across the hall. I turn to look at her and smile saying, "I'm coming mom." I turn and give my friends hugs, " I'll call you tonight guys, my family is taking me out to celebrate. We have to decide what we a doing this weekend." I tell my friends. "Love you girl" both of them say to me as I head toward my family.

After we left the school, we got in the car and took off. My mother looks at me from the front seat and gives me a wide smile. "Oh honey, we are so proud of you and we are taking you to eat and your favorite restaurant." mom said. I pump my fist in the air and yell "yes". My sister pulls me in to a hug and whispers, "congratulations Karlie". My sister Julie is 9 years old and on the quiet side but I love her. My parents are chatting away talking about their weekend plans while me and Julie are sitting playing on our phones. I go to look up and see headlights coming our way. My dad slams on the breaks as the car pulls into our lane but he isn't quick enough. Julie and I scream as the other car hits us head on. My ears are ringing and my vision is going in and out. I feeling like I am falling for what seems like forever. Then there is nothing, just an eerie silence. I blink my eyes trying to get my vision working. My head hurts so bad and I can't feel my arm. I take a look at my surroundings. My parents are in the front seats, slumped over, not moving. "MOM, DAD" I scream but nothing they just lay there. I know something isn't right, not one bit. I turn to look at Julie to make sure she is ok, but I scream when I see her. Her head is on the window, blood coating the door and her, her eyes open and vacant. No, no, no, no,. What do I do? I have to get help. I try to get my seat belt off but with my damaged arm I can't seem to move correctly. My vision gets fuzzy, tears rolling down my eyes and my world goes dark.
