Every step
Pressed onto the concrete
Slowly sinking deeper
Into tenacious soil
Costs the scarce treasure
Of a childhood memory
When I crossed the same street
Searching for flowers to pick
Reaching for leaves of autumn
But now walk to the other side
My young arms now reaching
For me to stop in place
But I can't be frozen
There is no time
For me to decide
If I wait too long
Looking both ways
My body will stay frozen
When it rolls onto the street
Left to the care of none
Until the rain sheds tears
For another life
