Chapter 7 - To doubt or not to doubt?

••••

I stare hard at the coin and then gaze at the person across from me.

I let out a sigh and flip the coin. We watch as I catch it on the back of my hand and my other hand on top.

"Do we have to do this?" It feels ridiculous for me.

"Show it." Impatiently, they said.

So I did.

It showed tails.

I let my face morphed into a blank expression as the person in front of me do their dumb victory dance.

"I've won!"

"Great, how lucky." I continue to play with the coin, tracing its patterns. I've never seen a coin like this before. It has an Omega logo in the middle, silvery lightnings on the corners like thin branches on trees. Mist said she got it from an antique shop.

Before I can study it further, a hand put its fingers on my chin, making eye contact with light eyes that are twinkling.

"Where's my prize?"

"Don't touch my face." I took a step back, putting as much space I could without looking silly.

As if I can though, my toes curl down on the carpet I'm standing on, the whole gang locked us in a tight circle, surrounding us like we're animals in a zoo.

This is what I get for being honest and for not keeping secrets. I told them about the guy with the flaming hair. It just slipped.

It was so stupid of me, since they were the ones that guy was warning me about. I made a lot of dumb mistakes and slip ups before but this is the most stupidest thing I ever let myself do.

"I've thought this game is called Truth or Truth? Why am I doing a damn dare?" I pointed at myself for emphasis.

Yep. They created a damn game full of truths just to rebuff that guy's words about them. Well, Persy actually did and ranted like a fast R-rated chipmunk while she was at it.

I guess, that Hades guy pulled a nerve. Boy, that was hell.

Mist grins cheekily, slurping her tea, "You see, Athena, this is what people get when they doubt their friends and believe someone else."

My brows furrowed and my face scrunched up, "How am I supposed to not question it when weird shit started happening when this eccentric undeniably gorgeous stupid woman showed up on my doorstep."

"Correction, you're the one who showed up on my doorstep." Minnie piped in with her smooth fucking voice that somehow reminds me of vanilla, taking all of my subconscious compliments to heart. I can see it on her flattered smile and swaying body.

"Shut up, bombshell. The woman that's suffering is talking."

'I'm deeply embarrassed I'm in the same headspace as you. Truly, Athena.'

-For once, be on my side.-

'I'm already inside you, what more could you ask for from silly old me?'

-That's one of the most disgusting things I've heard from you.-

'Of course, that's what happens when you live somewhere near a polluted area.'

-That's it. Time out for you. I'm not gonna talk to you for the rest of the day.-

'Suits me. I loved monologues.'

I rolled my eyes and held myself back from punching someone in the face with a chair without a care.

"Suffering? I'm the one's that's suffering here." Minnie clap back, stepping forward, a challenging look on her face.

I blanched, squinting my eyes at her.

"Come again?" The fucking audacity.

The brunette's face turns into a sad puppy look, putting a hand on her chest.

"I'm standing here, being vunerable and open to you, waiting for you to come to me. Yet, you're taking your sweet time to reject my feelings."

I gape at her, dropping the coin in the process. Bet, the others have the same reaction as mine.

I couldn't any more be wrong when I saw each one of them grab a bowl of popcorn behind their back and their eyes turn wide and attentive. Fucking love twins even put on some 3d glasses.

"I- don't make it sound so dramatic for Pete's sake!" I exclaimed, before pinching the bridge of my nose and decided to finally grab the insufferable woman to kiss her soundly on the cheek.

If only the coin turn heads. I have the opportunity to whack her on the face with a pillow, instead she won and got her wish. Talk about oozing with luck without doing anything.

"There, Jesus. Talk about overplay." I wiped my lips and sit back down, not looking anyone in the eyes.

They couldn't know I'm gushing inside like a panic gay. The woman has a very soft skin and really smells good like a damn baby. I hate it. She makes me panic so much it causes anxiety and meltdowns.

It's a gift from the gods that I can somehow control the heat on my face. If I concentrate hard enough.

I shot a quick glance at Minerva. The brunette has the nerve to give me a perfect gummy smile while holding her kissed cheek.

It's a curse from the gods that I'm bloody weak when it comes to women who look like goddesses.

"That was anticlimactic." Venus sighs in disappointment, removing the glasses. Sero done the same, shaking his head.

"Yes," Then the dude turned to Minnie, "Why didn't you add like a time there? A 5 minute kiss."

"Better yet, add a certain part there." Persy moves into a thinking pose, rubbing her chin.

"A 5 minute kiss on the lips." Mist stated.

"Who brainstorms for their friend's demise!?"

"My lips aren't that bad, Athena. They don't have any poison that will cause your death."

Minerva tilts her head, rubbing a finger on her lips. "In fact, they may have something that will cure you."

I stare at her, and started sniffing.

"Oh what's that smell?" I sniff harder, leaning on my neighbor's direction.

They all look at me with confusion.

"It's bullshit." I stand up and walk towards the front door.

"Where are you going?"

"To unwind. Do whatever you want."

"So can we come then?"

"No, but here's a finger for hospitality." I gave them not just one bird but two birds. They couldn't absolutely share just one of course. I'm generous like that.

"Well, we deserve that." Herc wave a random white cloth as a sign of surrender. "But we're just trying to justify ourselves, Athens."

"Certainly, we wouldn't want to do something that could potentially hurt you." Venus back him up with her high voice. They all suddenly look serious.

Minerva remains seated on the center of the living room as the others gather in front of me. She gaze at me with that familiar unreadable expression she does ever so often.

The first time I saw that was when I was force to crash on her bed, also the first time we've met. That was the last thing I saw before I've drifted off to sleep.

It's like she's observing me, studying me. She has no reason to though. I'm open, this is the main reason why I'm in this very situation after all.

It doesn't feel creepy, but it gives me the feeling of her knowing something that I don't. Of her knowing me more than I know myself.

I didn't replied to my friends and I didn't break eye contact with Minerva as I closed the door behind me and in front of them.
