Devanie's POV
____________________________________________________
Okay, I know. This whole thing was stupid. It was never my intention for things to end up this way.
"All you have to do is not fall for me first."
What was I thinking? The thing is I wasn't thinking. I never intended this to be a war of who falls first, because I don't intend on falling for a stuck up jerk like him. But I'd be lying to myself if I didn't enjoy his efforts or desperate attempts in making me fall for him. He started bringing me a small bouquets of sunflowers everyday with a really snarky note.
Today when I received the flowers in my locker the note said:
Have you fallen yet? ;)
"Have you?"
I looked behind me to see Pryer in a black hoodie and blue ripped jeans. He had that same smirk, but never a smile. "Have I what?"I said as I turned to fully face him. Today he seemed more anxious. "Come on Devie we've been through this. Have you fallen for me yet?" He said looking down at me with hopeful eyes.
Maybe.
"Nope."
Immediately he huffed in annoyance. I boldly took my hand and placed it on his face. He obediently lowered his face to mine.
"Uh, Devie-"
"You have a lint in your hair."I said as I took the imaginary lint out of his hair. I knew exactly what I was doing. " Y-you can't do that!" Pryer said as he immediately rose his face away from mine. I watched as his slightly tanned skin slowly turned a flushed pink.
He was blushing.
"Actually I can. You see I did say not to fall for me first, didn't I?" I grinned confidently when in reality I was a nervous wreck. No one has done as much as Pryer has, but I bet this is just routine for him.
"Babe come on we have to go."
Aurora smiled as she appeared out of nowhere. Pryer happily accepted her gesture of trying to hug him. She gave me a side glance and looked me up and down."She's a little brown you know?"
A little brown?
Well that's a little rude.
"Yes she is and I like it." Pryer said as he winked at me. He dropped his hands to Aurora's waist and pulled her closer. I immediately felt out of place, as they were just hugging and kissing each others cheeks.
Alright that's my cue to leave.
I turned around with the bouquet of flowers in my hand and start to walk off. "Where are you going Devie?" Pryer called out to me.
Anywhere but here.
"I'm going to class." I yelled to him as I start picking up my pace.
I keep my eyes to the floor, watching each step. Suddenly I feel someone grab my shoulders.
"Hey Vanie what's the rush?"
I looked up in surprise to see He Feng smiling down at me. One of the only faces I was happy to see today. "You actually came to this school?"
"Of course. Who gave you the flowers?" He squinted as he inspected the sunflowers I was holding. "Him." I pointed as I looked over at Pryer who was still caught in Aurora trance.
That girl isn't going to make my life easy.
"Why's he with another girl if he gave you flowers?" He Feng said as he kept his on Pryer. He was clearly annoyed. "Honestly I don't know."
Next thing I knew He Feng was walking up to Pryer while I started to speed walk behind him. I had no idea what he was a about to do, like I said I don't know him very well but I can read expressions. And right now he looks very angry.
"Hey you." He Feng shouted loud and clear for Pryer to hear. He takes his attention off Aurora to look at him. Aurora looks at the whole scene confused.
"What?"
"I'm He Feng, but you can call Feng. I'm Vanie's closest friend." He says proudly with his genuine smile and takes Pryer's hand to shake.
"Friend?"
"That's right. Also her house is getting flooded with flowers maybe try something different?" He Feng simpered as he takes the small bouquet of flowers and tosses them towards Pryer.
"Who do you think you are telling me what to do?" Pryer's voice went from confused to angry as he stepped closer towards He Feng. "I just told who I think I am. I am Feng." He said as he lazily put his hands in the pockets of his sweatpants.
"Just so you know I think your your really ridiculous for trying to tell me what to do. You must be new as well so I'll teach you." Pryer started walking closer to He Feng causing him to step back."I'm the one on top and there's absolutely nothing you can do change that. Not you not Devanie not even myself. All of this is annoying." Pryer stopped closing the gap between him and He Feng and started to walk hand in hand with Aurora in the opposite direction.
"That was intense? Sort of. Neither of looked really into it." I hummed as looked at He Feng's features again. "You were hoping for a fight to watch weren't you?"
"Was it that obvious?"
He shook his head and laughed which only made me smile as we continued to walk down the hallway in silence. "This schools kinda trashy though." He Feng suddenly says and shrugs his shoulders. I nodded my head in agreement.
Not so trashy anymore~
"How do people even like him, he's so stuck up." I nodded my head in agreement again. "You didn't have to do that for me He Feng." I said as I watched my walking pattern like again.
"I wasn't doing it for you specifically. I did it for myself as well."He sighed as we made eye contact with each other for a split second. "Yeah surprise surprise. Like I said not everything is a fairytale. I wanted to show him that I'm my own person, I'm not about to be bossed around by someone like him."
"Right." I sighed as I looked to the side hoping and praying something would come out of this conversation that was interesting to me. Even though this has nothing to do with me it still upsets me that Pryer thinks he can just do whatever he wants.
"And call me Feng. I don't like the fact that I have a nickname for you, but you don't have one for me." He pouted while giving me a sad side eye.
"Fine Feng."
"Thank you very much Vanie."
The rest of our walk to class ended shortly, because Voya found us walking in the hallway just as the bell for class had rang. Of course she was overly excited about He Feng and how mysteriously handsome he was.
I told her everything I knew about him. Which isn't much. I don't even know if he has a siblings or not. He never really talks and I never bother asking him questions about his personal life.
He'll just swerve the topic back to me.
Just like he always does.
