"Luciana? Is that you." she said, blinking the sleep from her eyes.
How was she sleepy?
She had literally been arrested!
"Yes, it's me."
I crouched and moved a little closer to the cell. I put my hand through the bars and examined her face. She looked drowsy and her eyes didn't seem to be focusing on anything.
I was still holding her face when I felt it go slack in my hand. In surprise, I lost my hold on her and she fell on the bed. Cursing under my breath, I pulled my hand out.
I turned to Amber. "They drugged her."
She nodded. "We should have expected that."
I shook my head and walked out. "I'm going to head back to my room."
Once I got there, the first thing I did was grab a sleeping pill, break it in half and swallowed it. If I had taken a whole pill, I'd be asleep for another 8 hours and seeing as it was around two in the morning now, I couldn't sleep for so long.
Taking a seat on the bed, I looked at the note one final time before lying down and letting the pill take effect.
~~~~~~~~
I was standing in David's office.
But he was not here.
After my 4 hour sleep, the first thing I wanted to do was talk to David and ask him if I could go talk to Miranda. Because I couldn't last night, but he doesn't have to know that.
I decided to wait for him and took a seat. It was the same chair I sat on the day I woke up after being hit by a truck. It seems like forever ago, but in reality it had only been about a month or so since that happened.
I was so lost in my thoughts that I didn't realize that someone was knocking on the door.
Why would David knock on his own door?
I pulled out a gun from my holster and made my way to the door.
I thought it was a good idea have a gun on myself at all times since I was not supposed to trust anyone I know.
I stood in front of the door, gun in hand. "Come in,"
"Oh, it's you. I was wondering why Marcello sounded like a girl."
My mouth fell open and my eyes are widened, I was pretty sure I looked like a fish that had been pulled out of water.
"Close your mouth, you might catch flies." he smirked.
I put my gun back. "What are you doing here, Kaden?"
He walked past me and sat on the chair I was sitting on. "Forget that. I thought you were six feet under. Wanna explain how you're here now? Oh, by the way, thanks for warming up the seat."
I huffed out a breath. "You didn't look surprised when you saw me. I'm pretty sure you already know the basics."
"But I wanna hear it once again. In your sweet voice." he was still smirking.
I had a snarky comment ready but David walked in just as I was about to open my mouth.
"What a wonderful surprise, Luciana and Agent Reed. Just walking into my office without permission I see." he sat on the other side on the table.
Kaden raised his hand. "Actually, I did knock."
David turned to me. "And you?"
"I picked the lock." I smiled.
He sighed. "So, Agent Reed, I have a room set out for you, when would you like to move in?"
I sat down. "Whoa, okay, he's moving in?"
"Why else did you think I was here, Luce?" he grinned.
"I guess that make sense, why do you have to move here anyway? The Assassin's Agency finally kicked you out?"
David spoke up. "I requested him to be transferred here."
"Are you going to tell me why or . . . ?" I trailed off.
"He's here to replace Miranda. As you know very well, she is no longer an agent."
I nodded slowly, looking at the table. "Oh, okay."
"Don't sound so disappointed, Luce, it'll hurt my feelings." he placed a hand over his heart.
Ignoring him, I got up. "I bet you two have a lot to discuss. I'll take my leave."
I walked out and went to the kitchen. I could use something to eat.
I placed my head on the table and folded my hands over it.
Two of the recruits were going to come with me on my next mission, which may be a total failure like the previous one.
David was acting weird.
Nathan was mad at me.
Miranda had been arrested, which I don't know why, is a bad thing.
Kaden being here was just going to be the cherry on top.
"Didn't sleep well?"
I lifted my head up and saw Cole walking in.
"You have no idea." I said and got up.
I opened the fridge and grabbed a soda. I glanced at Cole and lifted a bottle, asking him if he wanted one. He nodded. I pass a bottle to him and looked at my watch. I still had a few hours until training. Maybe I'll just head to my room and try to figure out who the note was from.
Unscrewing the lid, I put it in my pocket and took a sip. As I brought my hand up again to take another sip, I saw a piece of crumpled paper lying in a corner. I walked over to it and picked it up.
Thinking it would be better to open it in my room I put it in my pocket and continued on the way to my room.
Once I was inside, I placed the bottle on the table and took a seat at my desk. I smoothed the paper out and almost knocked down the soda bottle in surprise.
It was the note I handed to Angela. The one with the names of the top two recruits.
What was it doing on the floor?
Maybe Angela dropped it by mistake.
Then why was it crumpled?
By the state of the note, I could be sure of one thing. However this ended up on the floor, it was definitely not by accident.
Before I know it, I was out of my room, determined to check on Angela. I caught sight of Kathrine in the corridor and called her.
I looked her straight in the eye. "Do you know where Angela is?"
She shook her head. "I saw her last night before going to bed. I haven't seen her all day."
I took in the information. "At what time did you see her last night? And where?"
"Around half past twelve, I saw her going there." she pointed in the direction ahead of us.
I nodded and she walked away.
The direction Kathrine pointed at was the same place I saw David last night.
But I saw him there more than an hour later than Kathrine saw Angela. It might be a total coincidence for Kathrine to see Angela there but why would David go there?
More importantly what was there?
"Um, Kathrine?" I called out.
She turned. "Yes?"
I pointed in the same direction she showed me. "What is there?"
"That's Angela's room."
She walked away and after she was gone, I walked to Angela's room.
I tried the door and saw that it was open. I walked in and looked around, it looked clean. Too clean.
I looked around and saw that it looked like no one stayed here. There was nothing on the desk. I open the cupboard and glanced in the bathroom. Both were empty.
This could mean two things.
Either Kathrine confused an empty room with Angela's room, which is unlikely.
Or Angela ran away.
And she ran away last night. After Miranda got arrested.
