After a brutal battle to the death in mortal kombat, everyone decided to be cliche and Kian brought out his old call of duty games. I went against Kian and Catherine, beating both of them within two minutes.
"Ha!" I gloated in his face when I'd killed his character.
"Yeah, whatever..." He mumbled, his eyes looking at everything but me as he sulked. A smile came over my lips. He was cute.
My gaming skills were impeccable. Safe to say, Park was the only one who managed to beat me and take the title of COD king. His victory may have also been due to the fact that I'd had one too many beers. I was starting to feel the effect of all those cans, and I rested my head back against the headboard.
"Do you wanna call it a night?" Kian asked from beside me. He was closer than I remember. No...I think we'd been like this the whole night, I was just more aware of it now.
I turned my head to face the TV, "yeah, I think so."
"I'll drop you back to campus, come on," he suggested.
"Are you crazy?" I was mumbling, I don't know why I felt the need to be quiet, but I didn't want anyone else to join our conversation. "We're all drunk."
Noah and Catherine were huddled up together as they chatted on the floor, and Aidan was sat near our feet, with Park back in the kitchen doing something. I couldn't remember anymore.
"I've only had one, but you're probably right," he agreed easily. "You can sleep in my room, I'll sleep in the hall."
"No, it's-"
Before I could finish, he nudged Aidan with his foot, "hey, you cool sleeping on the couch? Maggie's staying in our room."
Aidan looked up from his phone absentmindedly, "yeah, alright."
I frowned, speaking only when Aidan had turned back to the screen, "the beds are seperate, right? I'm okay with Aidan staying."
He stared at me for a moment, his hazel eyes boring into me as he contemplated my words. Finally, he asked, "what if I'm not?"
"Huh?"
He sighed, "you need to be more careful around guys. You're real pretty, you know? I'm not comfortable leaving you in a room alone with a guy, so he'll sleep in the hall with me."
"Was that a compliment?"
"Is that all you got out of it?"
I giggled like a kid, suddenly feeling giddy with joy. Or maybe it was the alcohol, I couldn't say. Kian was smiling too, as he looked down at me. Hmm...our faces were a lot closer than before.
"Mag-" his breath hitched when I suddenly moved closer, almost head-butting him in the process. My eyes flickered down to his lips for a brief second, wondering what it would be like to kiss him again. I really wanted to know.
I could feel my heart beating out of my chest with the kind of nervousness I hadn't felt in a really long time. Kian lifted his hand to my cheek, and I took that as a sign to just go for it.
But before I could, he gently pushed me off, looking away.
"You're drunk" he simply said.
I took a deep breath, trying to appear calm. I wanted to collect my thoughts, but I couldn't. My heart was still beating like crazy, and that mixed with the bitter sting of rejection made everything a little fuzzy.
"Let's get you to bed, alright?" he suggested, getting off the bed and extending his hand out for me to hold.
I gingerly took it, surprised at how warm his hand felt in mine. I know we just almost kissed, but this felt a lot more intimate.
Our hands didn't perfectly fit together, but I felt an odd sense of comfort wash over me. It felt like home somehow.
I looked up at him as he led me out of the room, suddenly realising.
I'm screwed.
