I slowly slipped back into reality and out of the horrible illusions that are my nightmares. I looked around and saw the bright sky and nearly setting sun from my window so I figured it was about five in the afternoon. I rolled out of bed and waited a moment for the blackness to leave my vision. I could already hear Yoora and her friends playing games downstairs and being loud, yelling about who was winning. My social anxiety said no, but my hunger said yes so I walked over to my door and opened it. The stairs led to the living room where they were so I caught a glimpse of the group of men and my sister on the floor playing some board game, but I was quick to leave so I wouldn't be noticed.
I walked into the kitchen and grabbed a glass, filling it up with cold water in the sink. As it was filling, I focused on the sound of the cup getting fuller and fuller and kept thinking the same thought over and over. 'Cold water burns more calories. Cold water burns more calories. Cold water...' As I was gulping down the freezing liquid, the door opened from the living room, making me flinch hard. I kept my head down until I heard Yoora's voice.
"Green Bean! I didn't even see you come down!" she spoke in her extremely optimistic voice. We've always been told we were complete opposites, and we never denied it. She's always cheerful and thinks on the brighter side of things while I... well, I'm me.
I turned around, my hands fidgeting and my legs shaking, and froze when I saw two other men with her. I kept my head down and nodded at her, quickly finishing my water and setting the glass down so I could flee. As I tried to pass her, she hooked onto my arm, resting her head on my shoulder.
"You should come play Mario Kart with us! We used to play all the time and you never wanna play anymore," she said.
"No thanks, Yoora," I said, avoiding eye contact with the two men.
"Hey, Seungkyo, you've been gone for a while haven't you? Where were you?" one of the men spoke up. The shaking intensified and my eyes lost focus, but then the door opened again and another tall man strolled in.
"Seungkyo?" I recognized the voice, but from where I didn't know. I looked up, and when my eyes focused and I saw who it was, I froze.
"You..." Suddenly things clicked. Standing in front of me was Dr. Kim, my therapist, who just so happened to be my younger sister's best friend. I knew he seemed familiar before, and now I knew why. I've seen this man frequently for the past four years in my own home, and somehow I still couldn't figure out where I knew him from. Now I didn't have to wonder anymore because he was standing in my kitchen looking just as shocked as I was.
"Who?" Yoora said.
"He's my new therapist..." I quietly said. Everyone in the room fell silent and Yoora pointed at me, then at him, then back to me, and finally, it landed on him.
"Jin's your therapist?" she seemed confused.
"Yeah..." Seokjin and I said at the same time.
"That's cool! My best friend is my brother's therapist!" Yoora said doing little excited jumps. "Anyways, pleeeaaasseee come play Mario Kart, Green Bean."
She pouted in front of me and I sighed, deciding to put her needs above my own as I should have in the first place. I should have just listened and done as she had said, I'm nothing but a disappointment. I put on a fake smile and nodded, speaking quietly, "Okay."
She smiled and emitted a high pitched "Yay!" then dragged me into the living room where four men looked up. They were all cleaning up the game so I assumed they finished and were now preparing to play the game I was dragged out to play.
"Could you set it up Green Bean?" Yoora asked, looking up at me with a pout. I nodded and released her from my arm. I walked over to the TV and plugged in the Wii cords, both to the TV and the outlet. Once I did it right, I grabbed the remote and changed it to the right setting. I then sat in a chair so I could be away from the rest of the group. Yoora grabbed the controller and then turned around to face the group which had huddled on the couch, two chairs, and floor.
"Teaming time! Teams of two and one with three, but I'm with Seungkyo!" Yoora said. All the men started frantically looking around for a partner. A small guy got tackled by another guy and didn't even mind. 'How do people do that and not panic?' I wondered. The man who tackled him started screaming about soap or something, I didn't bother to question it. They paired up fairly quickly and finally, there was one man left.
"Jimin, you can be with us!" Yoora exclaimed. I eyed the man a bit suspiciously. He was the shortest of the seven, but still taller than me. He had delicate features, almost like an angel. It looked like he was wearing a bit of makeup and he had a nice smile. He came over and sat beside Yoora who threw an arm around him and handed him one controller and another to a larger man who was very intimidating. Just being around him made me feel smaller and less than. He was handsome, tall, and had intelligence radiating off of him.
"Joonie and Minnie play first, then Seungkyo and whoever wants to lose," Yoora says.
"I bet I can win," one of them said. He smiled and his front teeth looked like rabbit teeth. I slightly smiled at the resemblance.
"No you can't, Kookie, Green Bean is the best player I know. He's the one who set all of the Time Trial records on here."
He seemed shocked and looked at me in disbelief. He spoke, "You're joking, right? I've been trying to break those for years!"
I shook my head slowly, avoiding eye contact. Yoora hushed him and had the shortest and tallest men start the race. It resulted with the taller being uncoordinated and losing to the angel boy. I was shocked; at first glance, it seemed as though the outcome would have been the exact opposite.
"Hyunggg, I win!" the shorter said.
"Good job Jimin, your team is sure to win," the elder said.
Jimin turned to me and handed the controller out. I stared at it for a few seconds before meeting his eyes, something I never would have done before. He smiled and I noticed a small scar on his eye. It was interesting. It looked like he was wearing coloured contacts to obtain an unnatural gray tint to his iris. Immediately a surge of panic rushed through me, but I didn't allow it to show. I slowly extended my hand and gripped onto the controller, our hands brushing for a split second, making me pull back quickly, my breathing immediately speeding up and my heart pounded hard. I apologized quickly and he just said "It's okay, I don't like touch that much either unless it's with people I'm close with. Come on, you can win this game. Kook isn't as good as he says he is."
"Hyung, I'm way better than you!" the bunny man said with big eyes and a pout on his lips. I gave a slight smile and gripped the controller.
It's time to take down this rabbit.
