Chereads / I am controlled by a D20?! / Chapter 14 - Well Done

Chapter 14 - Well Done

The three men that we're able to move in an attempt to flank to cut him off from the alley that he just exited with them hoping to successfully make a box surrounding Mike. Not wanting to be surrounded Mike immediately backs up into the alley forcing them to come at him in pairs and not all at once in the alley since they would want enough room to maneuver around and fight. The guy with the great ax was probably their leader as he started to shout the orders to attack Mike and surround him before he went into the alley.

Now the great ax guy was in the front while another guy was to his left and Mike was dodging the attacks that were being thrown at him. Mike was not hit in the first barrage of attacks that the two of them were throwing out before Mike takes a stab at their leader.

He could not hit with his first strike but Mike needed to turn things around or else he would be at the end of the alleyway and he had a feeling that things would not be better if they continued like this. Continuing to focus on dodging the attacks Mike was hit once by the leader of the group which prompted a character description to show up of their leader.

...

Mike has cast two spells at once and has earned the skill piece 'Dual Casting'

Mike has chosen to increase the damage of the next spell by 2 damage

...

Mike extends his hand toward the four hitmen in the alley as now a dark blue glow emits from his palm and a blast of bone-chilling cold and frost rushes towards the group.

...

Mike has dealt 6 frost damage to Yoro

Mike has dealt 6 frost damage to Tyrone

Mike has dealt 5 frost damage to William

Mike has dealt 5 frost damage to Judah

All four of the hitmen are affected by the spell since the confines of the alley prevented them from dodging the blast instead of a little damage

All the hitmen were covered in a thin layer of frost that was slowing down their movements with their weapons. Mike took advantage of this and was able to attack while using Dash to make him faster.

10 and 3

12 and 10

Mike was able to gain an advantage with the Frost Blast slowing them down slightly and Dash making Mike slightly faster which worked for hand-in-hand combat. Still, with advantage, Mike was only able to hit William as he was the unlucky man who was next to Yoro trying to help him take down Mike.

'Ding'

...

Mike has dealt 10 slashing damage to William and is now under the effect of [Bleeding]

...

Mike was able to activate his shortswords bleed effect for the first time and William would need to close the wound to end the effect. William started bleeding profusely from the wound he received from Mike that was on his arm. William had yet to realize that his health was dripping away in the form of his blood as Mike continued to dodge the attacks of both of them. As Mike is continuously pushed further down the alley Mike gets hit by Yoro and his great ax.

'Ding'

...

Mike has taken 9 slashing damage from Yoro

...

The ax slammed down onto Mike's shoulder not crippling him but it did not hurt any less. Baring through the pain Mike casts Supply once more and Ice Blast at the group to get them to back off for a bit.

'Ding'

...

Mike has cast supply and gained 3 temporary health points

Mike has cast Ice Blast

Mike has cast two spells at once and has earned another skill piece of 'Dual Casting'

Mike has dealt 2 frost damage to Yoro

Mike has dealt 3 frost damage to Tyrone

Mike has dealt 4 frost damage to William

Mike has dealt 4 frost damage to Judah

...

Casting supply Mike could not help but still feel terrible from all the damage he has taken so he pulls up his health and is shocked at how little health he has.

Health: 9/50

With the supply spell active he only has 6 health so Mike was dangerously close to being killed so with nothing to lose Mike starts dishing out Frost Blast after Frost Blast at the group in front of him. Mike can cast out two spells at a time before any one of the men can get near him.

'Ding'

...

The user has been using the same spell for a repeated number of attempts in a short time frame. The system will have to now roll to see if the user can successfully cast the spell, have a backfire, or cast an evolved version of the spell.

Rolling...

...

Mike feels the feeling of unease pervades his body once more but this time the feeling of dread accompanies the unease. In Mike's head, he sees the pitch-black d20 change shape into what looks like the outline of what could only be a d100 (Will explain what that is at the end of the chapter). The dice rolls in Mike's Mind.

55

78

Mike casts the spells with only a small amount of strain on his body as the Ice Blast strike's the group twice.

'Ding'

...

Mike has dealt 4 frost damage to Yoro

Mike has dealt 4 frost damage to Tyrone

Mike has dealt 4 frost damage to William

Mike has dealt 2 frost damage to Judah

Mike has dealt 4 frost damage to Yoro

Mike has dealt 4 frost damage to Tyrone

Mike has dealt 2 frost damage to William

Mike has dealt 4 frost damage to Judah

...

All of the hitmen are slowed down considerably as the effect stacked on top of itself and even though the damage is minuscule it is still a problem. Mike casting Ice Blast back to back paid off as now William was an ice sculpture stuck in place with a shocked expression on his face as he realized that the end was near.

'Ding'

...

Mike has gained 10 exp from killing William

...

'Okay I now have 20 extra exp if I had to use it now would be the time to do so'

"System what can I level up to the max with my current exp?" Mike mumbles to himself as the Hitmen shake off the layer of frost on their bodies.

"The user can temporarily level up the skill Dash with exp to the max before it must undergo an upgrade"

"Then level up Dash"

'Ding'

...

The skill [Dash] has leveled up to its max level and can be upgraded. Does the user wish to upgrade the skill?

Yes/No

...

"Yes," Mike mumbles as he dodges the vigorous attacks of the three hitmen.

A new holographic screen appears in front of Mike's vision which should be three different options to choose from.

...

_______________________________

Dash II

An upgraded version of the skill Dash. Now you can sprint farther distances and feel less fatigued.

-15% to fatigue when running

_______________________________

Parkour (Passive)

You are now the master of your surroundings as you use them to vault, dodge, and look cool as you traverse your surroundings.

An advantage when vaulting over objects or climbing a wall

Can dodge when using the environment

_______________________________

Hard to Hit (Passive)

You forsake speed in the long run for being faster while standing still and dodging and everyone trying to hit you is paranoid that you are going to dodge. Even if you are hit you are still tough to hurt.

All enemies while in combat have disadvantages when trying to hit you (Sneak attacks are not affected by the skill)

All damage will be reduced by 1 point

_______________________________

...

Without thinking about it Mike chooses "Hard to Hit" since it is something that can help him now and hopefully later down the road. As his option is confirmed the hitmen attacking Mike suddenly get paranoid that Mike was going to dodge their next attack and try to calculate where he will go when he dodges. Mike still gets hit by an attack from Tyrone who took the place of William.

'Ding'

...

Mike has taken 5 piercing damage from Tyrone

...

Mike now had 4 health left but he was able to still do a lot of damage against the hitmen so that was a plus. Not knowing that Dike had not abandoned him to his fate he had been watching the progress of the fight.

...

Dike currently was looking down from the clouds at Mike as he was fighting against the Hitmen. He had already cast a spell that could see the vitality of living beings. Now while he did not get any prompt showing hit points or a health bar to show up about people Dike instead saw a bright light that fit a person's figure which glowed brighter the healthier they were. Mike's glow was dim and flickering showing that he was on the verge of death at best.

'I should probably intervene' He thinks as he lowers himself to the ground.

...

Mike was now at the end of the alley and did not know how much longer he could last. The men closed in hoping to get rid of the kid in front of them that had been a pain to deal with. Then as all of them raise their blades to attack the stop. It did not seem to be just them that stopped moving. There was a bird that was flying over the alley and it too was suspended in the air not moving, but not dropping like a stone.

"Well done Michael. I believe that most beginning wizards would be able to do what you pulled off most would have died"

Dike was stationary from the sky that it made him look like an angel to the eyes of Mike, minus the wings of course. However, he realized that the whole reason he was in this mess was that Dike decided to let him handle it which made Mike really upset at Dike for leaving him to fight insurmountable odds for a regular person. So as soon as he has reached the ground Mike really wants to hit him but holds back as he has an educated guess as to what had happened.

Mike assumes that Dike cast a spell that would stop time in a specific area for a certain amount of time and if Mike hit him he would probably lose concentration on the spell and the three hitmen would cut Mike into ribbons. So instead Mike walks behind the three of them and recasts Supply on himself.

'Ding'

...

Mission: [Apprentice's Trial] Has failed

Reason: Your master had to intervene in the fight

...

Mike was disheartened at learning that he had failed a mission, but a part of him still knew that he could not win without his master's help plus there would always be more quests in the future so there was no need to cry about some spoiled milk.

"So how long does this spell last?" Mike asks as he sits on the ground exhausted.

"Well it usually will last as long as I have mana to supply the spell which right now is about a minute and a half"

"Okay, I don't suppose you know any healing spells do you?" Mike asks emphasizing his bodily discomfort and pain that was just now awakening with the withdrawal of adrenaline

"I do know one remember?"

Mike facepalms at his short memory as Dike walks to Mike and places his hand on his shoulder. The same feeling of warmth goes over his body as if he just stepped into a warm bath once more.

'Ding'

...

Mike has regained all health points
