Chapter 39 - Chapter 38

SEBASTIAN

Despite sitting here for an hour, my parents continued to hold me in their arms. They didn't say anything, they just let me cry, it was like I was a child again. Jackson sat in front of us in silence, sometimes staring at the carpet, sometimes glancing at me or my parents.

"I think you should go see her." Jackson's voice broke the silence we sat in. "You know how you feel, don't you? So you should tell her, she deserves to know."

It felt like a deep chasm bloomed within me, my nerves going into overdrive. My throat dried up and it became very sore and hard to swallow anything.

"It's too late now, I haven't talked to her in weeks, it feels like a lifetime has passed." My voice was hoarse and scratchy. It was weak, the defeat evident.

He chuckled and shook his head. "Better late than never Seb, you never know what could happen, judging by the way she talked about you it seems she could feel the same way."

"What do you mean? When did she talk about me?" I removed my head of my mother's shoulder and threw him a look of confusion.

"At the ball and the wedding. I was there both times you know. We were talking and we somehow ended up talking about you. It could have been the lighting but I swear man, she lit up, she glowed like an angel."

"An angel?" I snorted, a smile coming to my face.

"You know what I mean. She talked about you as if you were all she thought about. She was so passionate about you and she looked so happy, trust me if it's anything, happiness looks amazing on her."

"Son, are you...taking stuff?" My father's gruff voice cuts in.

"What? What are you talking about? Of course I'm not taking stuff why on earth would you even think that?" Jackson yelped, his eyebrows furrowed.

"Because son, you sound like me in my college days."

"Oh, Edward! Shush!" My mother hushed, giggling a little.

"Unbelievable! I honestly can't, you know what, I'm leaving." Jackson stood and trudged out of my room.

"Son! Oh, come on." My father followed, pausing in the doorway and shouting to me before he left. "Go get her son."

I looked over at my mother, who at this moment, was trying to contain her laughter. She shook her head and stood in front of me, placing a kiss on my forehead.

"You know, they're right." Her voice was soft.

"But what if it's too late mama? What if she doesn't want me?" I was on the verge of crying again when she lifted my chin up.

"My son, my dear son. If she didn't want you she would be loosing out on a very caring and loving man. You have grown into a fine gentleman and I am so proud, so so proud of the man you have become." She stroked my hair before leaving the room.

"Alright," I muttered, "I'll tell her."

I grabbed my keys from my bedside table and sprinted down the stairs.

"Woah, where are you speeding off to?" The cook questioned with a knowing look as he avoided me.

"I'm going to see someone, I need to tell them something really important," I panted, aching to leave and drive off.

"Are you sure you're making the right choice? Are you sure you want to do this?" His eyebrows furrowed and his face flushed with concern.

"If I don't tell her, I'm afraid that these feelings will eat me alive, I at least need to tell her."

It felt like an eternity before he hesitantly nodded. "Okay, stay safe. I don't care how in love you are or whatever, don't you dare go over the speed limit, you hear?"

"Yes, sir. I'll see you later, wish me luck." I continued on my mission as I hopped into the car and sped off.

I made sure to follow Cook's orders and kept below the speed limit. With every passing second, the anxiety I felt was like a beast locked in a cage, it was aching to get out. A sudden feeling of dread filled me when I got to the apartment block.

It was as lively as usual, there were students everywhere, some revising, others messing around. Seeing others continue their daily lives around me calmed me down a little as I hopped into the elevator. Once the doors opened, I trudged to that very same door I trudged to before. And I knocked.

No answer.

I knocked again and I still didn't receive an answer. As I was halfway through my third knock the door next to Audrey's opened and an angry face was on the other side.

"Do you mind? Tired people trying to sleep here." He definitely looked it, he just looked exhausted.

"I'm sorry if I bothered you but I just needed to talk to the girl living in this apartment, it's really important."

"Who are you and why do you need to talk to Audrey." He was on alert and he narrowed his eyes at me.

"I promise I mean no harm to her. She helped me a while back and during that time something happened and I just need to talk to her about it," I responded, holding my hands up in surrender.

He arched an eyebrow as he folded his arms across his chest. "Yeah, okay, and who are you again?"

"Oh, I'm Sebastian. Sebastian King." I introduced myself, fidgeting awkwardly.

"Sebastian King? Where have I-OH!...You. Come in. Now." He stepped aside and motioned for me to enter.

I looked around the room, it was the same as Audrey's but with a lot more decoration. The walls were covered in pictures and posters, it looked homey. Audrey liked to keep her personality and thoughts to herself, whereas this man clearly liked to be loud and clear.

"Have a seat, we need to talk." I gulped, my mind running a mile a minute, "Oh don't make that face, you look weird."

I sat on his large cerulean blue velvet couch. Interesting choice of decor. I nervously looked up at him as he stood in front of me, intimidating me.

"As you know by now, I'm Audrey's neighbour. My name is Daniel Austin, I'm in my third year at university. You must be the fella Audrey was talking about, it's nice to finally put a face to the name," he addressed, smiling a little at the end.

"Audrey talked about...me?" I asked with uncertainty.

"Yeah, she was checking up on me when I noticed she looked kinda bummed. There may or may not have a crying session and a session of watching the Princess Diaries before she fell asleep." He smiled at the memory. Although he meant no harm, I couldn't help but feel a surge of jealousy coursing through me.

"Did you take advantage of her? Did you do anything bad to her? I swear to God if you did I'll-"

"Woah! Chill out, dude! No! She's like my little sister, plus I'm hella gay. She was the one to help me get over my boyfriend when he cheated on me." His hands were now raised in surrender.

I reeled back in shock before immediately taking action. "You're gay? I'm sorry I made those assumptions, I shouldn't have done that I just got-"

"Jealous? Yeah, I know, I've been there. And yes hot stuff, hella gay." He chuckled and sat down beside me. "She told me how she felt about you. It was funny to watch, kinda sad to watch as well but mainly funny considering she's meant to be the love expert but she had no clue she was the one in love."

I glanced at him with confusion and hope. "She was in love?"

"Yeah, and with you."

"I'm in love with her too. SHIT! I need to find her." I bolted to my feet abruptly.

"Here, I have her address." He took out his phone and began scrolling through it.

"...Why do you have her address?" I asked cautiously.

"I needed to drop off the last of her things. There were some things she didn't want to get damaged in the moving truck so she had me drop them off to her parent's house. She moved out of her apartment, didn't she tell you?"

I shook my head. "No. For certain reasons I wasn't allowed to make any contact with her so I haven't talked to her in a while."

"Oh, Cupid's Database?" He asked.

"How do you know about it? Does everyone around me know she's in that?" I yelped.

"No, only the people she trusts or those she has helped know about it. Here, what's your number, I'll send the address to you."

I gave him my number and he sent the address. Soon I was on my way and speeding to the location, staying under the speed limit of course. I couldn't help but feel a smile creep up on my face. I was overjoyed and filled with hope.

Well, I guess I just have to pray this goes well. Wish me luck.
