Chapter 10 - Vow and Horror

Waking up under the blazing sun, Ryujin couldn't help feeling disoriented. His vision was hazy, and he felt a throbbing headache as if someone was cracking his skull open. He couldn't help wondering while he tried to sit up straight when he felt an excruciating pain all over his body that left him teary-eyed. He laid down on the concrete, trying to remember why his body was aching in the first place before the memories came flooding in, and it only made him far more confused since he couldn't tell how he won. The last thing he could remember was the goblin beating him up until he lost consciousness.

His vision slowly turned to normal after a while, and he could see what seemed to be the goblin's corpse. It was barely recognizable due to the endless amount of wounds on its body. Ryujin immediately looked around in fear, searching for the monster that must've mauled it to death.

The corpse was just that grotesque. Only a beast or someone insane could have done this, and it could overpower a goblin to this extent. Ryujin was only able to breathe when he couldn't find a sign of the monster nearby.

Just as he was about to check whether he had leveled up or not, he heard a woman's blood-curdling scream that echoed through the desolate streets. Ryujin's face turned pale as he felt the raw emotion of fear contained within her voice.

Listening to his instincts that were telling him to run and hide. Ryujin forced himself to crawl under an abandoned car just in time before he heard something approaching.

Peering out through the gap between the car and the ground, Ryujin could see a woman's legs just a few feet away. Behind her, heavy footsteps and loud grunting noises were getting louder and louder until finally, goblins appear one after the other.

Ryujin immediately held his breath, afraid that the goblins would notice him as he saw twelve of them chasing the woman. After observing these monsters and experiencing their abilities firsthand, he may not be an expert, but he could tell that they were toying with her.

These creatures are not only far more powerful than average humans; they are faster, and their bodies are incredibly robust. If it wasn't clear to him before, it was now plain to see that the goblins are superior to humans. Their only weakness was their low intelligence.

The only reason as to why Ryujin could even barely fight a goblin one on one was because he is an incredibly athletic person. His past jobs also require him to be extremely agile, which is why his reflexes are better than most people.

He may not be the sharpest tool in the shed, but he certainly isn't behind when it comes to physical abilities. Yet even he could barely dodge the goblin's attacks if the goblins had even just a bit of technique then there's no doubt that Ryujin would've died earlier.

After a few minutes of mocking the woman they encircled, the fear brought by the realization that she couldn't escape anymore paralyzed her whole body. Her legs became weak, and she fell on her bottom. A puddle soon formed between her thighs as she looked at the goblins surrounding her in horror. She tried to crawl away, despite knowing it was futile, but it seemed like one of the goblins was tired of playing.

It held her down to the ground before tearing her shirt apart, exposing her voluptuous figure covered by her underwear. The woman realized what was about to happen, and she started to struggle desperately, trying to use whatever means necessary to escape.

Her actions didn't bear any fruit, instead, it only fueled the goblin's burning desire, and despite her bitter struggle, she couldn't stop it. Soon, the two moved in a rhythmic-pattern while the woman cried in agony.

The beautiful face of the woman distorted into a fearsome expression, a venomous look that even the goblin couldn't ignore. Her face was crimson red, and the veins on her face were popping out.

Perhaps she felt his gaze, but soon her eyes matched with Ryujin, and she could see his clenched fists and the subtle fury that he was desperately trying to bury deep inside him.

He was slightly annoyed and worried that the woman found him, he thought that in her desperation she would try to divert the attention of the monsters towards him.

But he was incredibly wrong, the woman stayed silent, looking as if she was thinking about something. Still, he didn't let his guard down, prepared to move in case things go south.

The woman would wince in pain from time to time, but it was obvious on her face that she was contemplating something before a resolute look appeared on her face causing Ryujin to wonder in curiosity.

She looked at Ryujin, she opened and closed her mouth in a peculiar manner that made Ryujin wonder whether she lost her mind until finally, he realized that she was mouthing some words. He could barely read her lips, he tried to follow the way she spoke before he finally came up to a conclusion that left him confused.

'Avenge me?'

He thought to himself, as he stared at the woman in wonder when she suddenly stabbed the goblin with a glass shard that she picked up who knows when. The glass shard barely dug deep, but it was embedded in the goblin's body who freed the woman's arms as it indulged in pleasure.

Enraged, the goblin picked up the wooden club that it dropped on the ground, before swinging it towards the woman's head. Unfazed, the woman had a ferocious smile on her face before looking at Ryujin. Mouthing the same words once again.

Ryujin watched in horror, as the wooden club landed squarely on the woman's forehead, deforming it in the process. It looked like her forehead caved in, but she still had that victorious smile on her face, before the club smashed her face once more.

The club continued to smash her face to a pulp, and when the monster stopped. The woman's head was gone, and there was barely any remnants, laying there on the ground was a red gooey mess.

He felt his stomach churn at the sight, unable to see any sort of resemblance to the beautiful face he once saw. He finally understood what she meant, and the purpose of her actions, and he probably would have done the same if he was in the same position. The goblin then removed the glass shard stuck in the goblin's chest, exposing the bloody cut that Ryujin desperately tried to remember. He had no intention of going all out just to avenge the woman, but if he was stronger by the next time he meets it then he'd make it suffer in hopes that it will appease the woman's hatred.

The goblin soon left right after, no longer in the mood to indulge in its carnal pleasure, but the same couldn't be said for the other goblins. Ryujin's face turned dark as he watched half of them surround the woman's body.

Haunted by the slapping sounds caused by their act, Ryujin had no idea when it ended. He only realized it when the noises eventually stopped, allowing him to crawl out from underneath the car. A woman's naked body was sprawled on the ground covered in blood, semen, and sweat just a few feet away from him.

The scent of iron mixed with something weird along with the sight of a headless body made him nearly vomit. He offered a silent prayer before promising to avenge her when the chance appears.

His body was still aching, but he was finally able to walk, so he decided to head back to Yui. He hurried on the way home, unable to forget what happened to the woman, worried that something similar would happen to Yui.

While others would see Yui as a burden to him, it was different for Ryujin. Yui was his mental support, a sturdy pillar that's supporting his crumbling psychological state. Her positive outlook on life gave him the determination to face every tribulation on his way. Without her, Ryujin would've most likely killed himself or lose his sanity.

Their relationship was beneficial to both of them. They relied on another just, so they could survive in this godforsaken world that they are currently living in.

Cursing the fact that he walked so far away from the house, he soon could see it just a few meters away. He immediately moved faster in joy, when soon he felt his blood go cold. His face turned pale as he looked at the broken-down door.

It was getting dark outside and it was also dark inside the house, but he could tell that the inside was a mess. He gulped as he slowly entered the house, extremely cautious and worried. He first went into the living room to find it ruined. Various objects were smashed, pictures were broken while the sofa was turned upside down. Every room downstairs was in a similar state if not even worse.

Soon he was standing in front of the dark staircase, Ryujin didn't call out to Yui, anxious that whatever got in was still inside the house, and Yui will expose herself thinking it was safe.

Climbing up the stairs, he first went into the office room and the room where Yui's dead mother was, partly hoping he'll meet the thing that got in only to be disappointed. Soon he was standing in front of Yui's room.

His heart was beating wildly and his body was trembling. The palm of his hands was sweating despite the night being cold as he reached out for the doorknob quietly opening the door.

At this point in time, the moon was already high up in the sky due to him moving slowly and the moonlight was peering through the curtains allowing Ryujin to see the outline of everything inside the room. The room was a mess as well, but sitting right there in the middle of the room was a figure too familiar to him. It was a goblin.

Crunching sounds filled the room, and the smell of blood lingered. The red liquid would splash with every movement of the figure in the room.

Ryujin turned paler than the moon, a mixture of disbelief and anger on his face. His hand was unconsciously reaching out to the knife as he shook his head.

"No, no... this can't be real, Yui...where are you Yui? No, this is my fault... my fault.. my fault... Yui is dead, she is dead and this is your fault... where are you hiding Yui... YUI WHERE ARE YOU??!!"
