I stare at the bars. It's been a while since Ky disappeared down the hallway. I wish i could tell what time it is. I'm too nervous and uncomfortable to sleep. My eyes shift over to look at the thick rug on the floor. The rug I woke up on when I stumbled into the cave the first time. I would prefer to lay on that than the cold stone that I'm laying on now.
I sigh, closing my eyes once more, trying to relax and fall asleep. I've been trying to sleep all night, but I can't. I'm exhausted and I can't seem to fall asleep.
My eyes snap open to the sound of footsteps. I look in the direction of the sound, surprised it's coming from the hall that leads outside and not Ky's hallway.
I keep watching as the sound gets closer and closer. My hands clutch the keys in my hand and I curl up when I see Niko come into the faintly lit room. I can already tell just by the way he's walking that something's wrong. I don't dare move an inch or take too long of a breath while I lay still on the stone.
Niko passes the cell. I don't know if he doesn't know if I'm here or if he is just ignoring me. I shudder out a deep breath when I can no longer hear the pattering of his feet.
Ky mentioned that Niko is strong. That he'd try and break into the cell. I'm honestly worried he might.
I hear faint yelling voices echo through the hallway. They only last a few moments, then it becomes silent. I stay still, waiting to hear something. Anything. But I don't hear any sounds. No voices, no movement.
I wonder what they were yelling about. Maybe what they talked about earlier. The whole 'keeping me' thing. I'd rather be left alone.
Now I hear two sets of foot steps padding their way through the hall. The voices start out faint but get louder as they get closer.
"You really think you're going to win this?" I recognize the voice as belonging to Ky, even though the voice sounds distorted. Dark.
"I do. And I'm going to use this new Trophy to do it." I hear Niko responds with an equally distorted voice. The sound of their feet stop. They're still in the hallway.
"Who said you could take her?" I hear Ky respond defensively.
I'm already terribly confused with their conversation. I've never been any good when it comes to socializing. Speaking to people was never my strong suit. I always lacked the capability to understand even the simplest of things.
"You're not the boss of me," Niko responds harshly.
"This plan of yours is crazy, Niko." Ky protests.
I blink a few times, trying to figure out what's going on. I feel like I'm only hearing part of what's being said. Like I'm missing a large part of the conversation.
"You used to be for my plan instead of against it. Then that female entered your life and you decided to go against me." Niko says.
There's a silence, not a good silence. I can feel the tension and I'm not close to them.
Then I hear Ky respond loudly, his voice booming through the hall-enough to startle me. His voice is even darker now, almost unrecognizable as a voice, it sounds more like a loud growl. Like the growl I heard from the first Shadow I encountered. "That didn't give you the right to kill her!" I hear their feet start to move again, quicker this time.
The first one I see is Niko, backing up quickly into the room. Ky is quickly following, advancing aggressively. His body is slightly bent forward, his fists clenched and at her side.
Niko doesn't look much bothered by Ky's reaction. "If you didn't abandon me than i wouldn't have killed her. Your loyalty was supposed to belong to me. Not to some female who wooed you over when we were juvenile." Niko says nonchalantly.
Ky throws one of his fists at Niko, hitting him in the face and knocking him over. His head lands between two of the bars to my cell. He looks at me and a grin forms on his face. "Goodmorning, Love."
My eyes widen slightly, but I don't move out of my position. His eyes. They're red. His veins show on his neck and temples, his eye lids darkened, just like Drew's before he attacked me. They turned Drew into one of them?
Ky grabs Niko's ankle and pulls him away from the bars. He looks at me. Ky's appearance is the same. Red eyes, the veins, all of it.
I wonder what this virus actually does. Is it like rabies? There's not any common diseases that can change so much about a person. Viruses turning people into creatures or zombies is only something you read about in science-fiction. How does this virus work?
"You're not welcome in my cave, Niko. Go back to your pets and leave her alone," Ky growls, standing over Niko who has an amused smile on his face.
"Oh, Brother of Mine. You talk like you have the option to kick me out." Niko says in a mocking tone.
Ky gets down, attacking Niko, who only laughs in return. I watch the two of them wrestle. Punching, kicking, scratching, biting.
I sit up, putting my back against the firm wall. I've never liked it when people fought. But I don't know if these guys count as people. i don't know what they are.
After a few minutes of their rough-housing, they stop, lying on their backs and panting. "Leave, Niko."
"Then give her to me."
"No."
