Chapter 5 - I Want to Stay

My eyes shoot open. I only glance around the room and I instantly know where I am. My eyes set to the dark corner by the cell. I can see Mystery-Boy's silhouette.

I feel myself become nauseous again and I glance down at my leg again. I advert my eyes quickly and swallow my nervousness. I'm going to throw up, just like I thought I was going to earlier.

"Don't look at it if it's going to make you sick," I hear the Mystery-Boy say. He sounds close. He's not that far away from me.

I turn my head and look at him. "You brought me back." I say.

"Observant," he hums, coming around to look at my leg. I'm sitting on the table. I shudder and try to pull my leg away but it hurts to bad to move. I wince. "Don't worry about moving. I'm going to fix it."

He gets on his knees in front of me, and my eyes widening. "F-Fix it? It's completely broken...." I say.

He rolls his eyes, "You people are very primitive, aren't you."

I am about to ask him what he means by 'you people' then I hear a snap and a sharp pain clouds my thinking. He just reset the bone! I cover my mouth with my hand trying not to scream at the pain.

"I'm going to put something on it, give me a moment." I hear him say through the ringing in my ears. Then I feel something cold touch the skin where the injury is. It's almost a soothing feeling. I can sense the pain leaving slowly.

After a minute, I'm able to get my breathing under control, and I look at him, standing in front of me where I have to tilt my head back to see him.

"Give it another minute or two then you'll be alright." He says.

I frown, "What do you mean fine? I can't go home if I can't walk."

He smiles. This if the first time I've seen him smile. I thought I'd like it. But I don't. I don't like the situation. Who'd have thought I'd get stuck here again after he said he didn't want to see me again. "You are so uneducated in how to care of injuries, huh?"

"Why would you want to care for my injury?" I ask, a bit defensively, wanting to know why he would bring me back here to fix my leg.

"I found you laying on the ground outside with a bone protruding out of your body. Would you rather me have left you there?" He asks, his smile leaving. He crosses his arms again. His eyes shift down to my leg but I'm too afraid to see what mess of an injury is down there.

"N-No," I say shyly, looking at my hand on the table.

"Then why question me for bringing you back for help."

His words are more of a statement than a question. "I want to stay here..." I mumble.

He looks at me, confused, his eyes only allowing me to look at him for a second before returning to my hand. "What?" I hear him ask.

"I don't know how to get home... and I don't want to get hurt again by those.. things." I say, "I want to stay here."

"No," he growls. He grabs my arms and pulls me off the table. I scream and try grabbing ahold of his shoulders, but he's holding me away from his body.

I let my good leg rest of the ground but hold up the injured one so that I can keep away the pain.

"Put your leg down," he demands.

My heart pounds, "N-No."

He pushes me back, letting go of me. I have to put both legs down to keep from falling. I close my eyes, wincing in expectation of the pain I'm about to feel, but it doesn't come.

I slowly open my eyes and look up at the Mystery-Boy, who stares down coldly at me. "You can walk fine, go and try to find your way home. Next time, I won't help you."

I look down at my leg in disbelief, there's no injury. Nothing. I'm not hurt. I look back up at him, "What did you do?"

"Nothing. I put some medicine on you. Now leave." He says, taking an intimidating step towards me, making me back up quickly.

Medicine that heals broken bones? Where did he get something like that? Medicine like that would be so important in society. My medical class didn't cover anything about medicines that could heal like that. "W-What did you use?"

"A medicine," he takes another step forward, making move backwards just as quick. I leave, running out of the cave. This time I go straight. Not to the left and not to the right. Straight so that I avoid the Shadow creature and Andrew. I can't be caught again.

My head hurts. I can't believe I'm running on a leg that I broke on maybe even the same day. I want to know what that was he had. I want to know how to make it so that we can make more. But I have a feeling he won't want to. Like it's some kind of big secret.
