Chapter 16
Bang, bang, bang, Adam said through the door, "Avery, wake up! Come make pancakes with me! Please?"
I looked at the clock, groaning, "No, leave me alone, it's only 5 AM." I grabbed my pillow, pulling it over my head.
Adam yelled, "Please, please, please, please?"
5 minutes later...I was wearing an apron and stirring the batter, glaring at Adam.
He was prancing around the kitchen smiling and singing, how can someone be this happy in the morning?
Adam asked, "Are you done mixing? I have pre-heated the pan."
I handed the batter to him, "I'm done." I looked at the stove, "Where's the butter, spatula, plate, and the big spoon?"
Adam muttered, "Whoops."
I sighed, "I'll help you, cause you would most likely burn the kitchen down within 5 minutes."
Adam smiled, "Thank you, for helping."
Adam burned 4 pancakes before he made any that were even close to edible. He kept on flipping it over too late or too fast.
I sighed, "Adam look at the clock, flip it in about 1 minute and 30 seconds, and slide the spatula under it from the side, it's easier to flip it that way."
Adam finally made one that wasn't burnt or wet.
I said, "Do you know how to do it now? Can I finally go back to sleep now?"
Adam shook his head, "No, not unless you want to wake up to a burning apartment."
I groaned, "Why today? Why not on Saturday or Sunday?"
Adam shrugged, "I wanted pancakes today, besides you still have 2 hours."
I glared, "Those 2 hours were supposed to be for me to sleep, not to make pancakes at the butt crack of dawn."
Adam pouted, "Please, pretty please, with sugar on top?"
I sighed, "Fine."
We made a total of 35 pancakes by the time it was 7:55 AM.
Thomas drove us to school, I was grumpy as heck.
I got out of the car waving goodbye, sigh, damn you, Adam, now I'm sleep-deprived and about to be late.
I hurried over to the school entrance, what the? Why were there so many girls in front of the school? They were all giggling and blushing.
I sighed. Why today of all days? Why the day I'm about to be late?
I got on my tippy-toes trying to see what was happening. There was a guy at least 6 feet tall, trim build, not overly muscular, hazel eyes, and platinum blond hair, he was very good-looking...until I saw the arrogant smirk on his face. Sigh, he was one of those kinds of people.
Then I looked at him again, where have I seen him? Then I remembered, Adam's room, he had a poster of him there, he was some rich famous dude.
When I looked up again, he was standing right in front of me, I jumped back, how the heck was he so quiet?
He stared at me for a second, smirking, "Hey there, you a fan of mine, too? Want an autograph?"
I replied, "No, I'm good, thanks. Why are you here?"
His smirk widened, "You mean you don't know? I am a Junior here at Princeton High. Names Alexander Cooper. I thought most girls knew who I was."
The girls behind him looked like they were about to faint or something.
I shook my head, "Nope, I have absolutely no idea who you are, and I'm a guy, not a girl."
He looked down at my uniform, "So you are, can't believe I missed the uniform. Though I'm not sure I'm convinced." Leaning down, he poked my cheek, "No guy has skin this soft and smooth. Plus you're so small I could fit you into my pocket."
The girls let out a gasp, I couldn't really tell if it was an excited one or shocked.
I cleared my throat, "I get that a lot actually, it's true I'm not very tall, and I don't exactly have very many muscles. But I am a guy, I can assure you of that."
Alexander raised his eyebrows, "Uh-huh, well, I'll be at school for a change today." He leaned down until his face was mear inches away from mine, "I'll find you."
Narrowing my eyes, I questioned him, "You'll find me? What do you mean?"
He mumbled, "Maybe next time I could look a little closer at you. Then I'll know for sure whether you're a boy or not."
Ding-ding, oh crap, that was the 6-minute bell, moving away from him, I shook my head, "Um, please don't, I would prefer it if you didn't come near me in the future. Now I need to go or else I'll be late for class."
I hurried to my locker and quickly dialed in the combination. Quickly shoving my books into the locker, I slammed it shut and speed-walked to class, and slid into my seat next to Mark.
He looked at me, "You okay, man? You looked a little stressed and tired."
I smiled, "I'm fine, Avery just woke me up really early at 5 AM."
He nodded, "Alright, dude."
Ding-ding, the tardy bell rang, Mr. Trent went on to explain what we were doing today, in class.
During the 4th period, I turned in my short essay. I was still thinking about what Alexander said. Was he really going to find me? Was he really suspicious of me? Sigh, I guess I'll find out soon.
At lunch, about 15 minutes in, Alexander came in, "So this is where you were hiding."
Crap, he was actually here.
He grinned, "What, no hello?" He walked over to me, "Did you really think I wasn't being serious?"
I sighed, "Dude, I'm a guy, deal with it."
Alexander ignored me, then he looked around the room, "This is the Martial Arts Club right? I want to join."
I stared at him, "Then you'll need to fight the club members, from strongest to weakest."
He nodded, "Sure, fine by me."
I nodded, "Come back after school, there's not enough time to fight right now."
Alexander shrugged, "Okay then, see you later." Then he paused, staring at me, "Why are you still in your uniform?"
I said, "Uh, I don't like changing in front of others. Bye, see you later." I turned away and walked to William.
Alexander made it to the Martial Arts Club a few minutes after me.
He asked, "So when will the fights start?"
I answered, "When everyone is here, we'll wait 5 minutes."
When everyone was here we had them line up from weakest to strongest. The 12 people lined up.
The first fight started, I said, "Here are the rules: No groin attacks, knees to the head on a grounded opponent, strikes to the back of the head or spine, head butts, eye-gouging, fingers in an opponent's orifices, biting, strikes or grabbing the throat, manipulation of the fingers or toes. Any type of martial arts is allowed. Okay, 1,2,3 fight!!
And thus, began Alexander's first fight.
