My name is Wasmine. I am 300-years-old but on earth, I'm only 16-years-old. My mother was the one to protect me all the time and somehow she encouraged me to become better than others. Earth's air is polluted with fumes that made my father have a stroke so the president had come and put him in a hospital room on her tab. We got to afford a house in L.A while my mother works hard to pay the bills, I have to go to school. The school I was going to was Queens High, a school for people with high accounts of intellect on the human race. I was one of the hundred aliens on earth. I guess you could say I'm an intergalactic transfer student. Compared to the humans on this planet it looked like I had a skin disease. My father had hated trying to hurt people, so I wanted to be like him. He is my inspiration, partly.
I had my doubts about myself going to school. I didn't want to be bullied nor did I want to learn human history as much as I did know about it. My mother walked up the stairs and knocked on my room door but I didn't want to get up. "Wasmine get up you have classes today!" My mother screamed. I drag myself out of bed resulting in me falling off my bed with a loud thud. I unlock the room door and I see my cheery mother in office clothes. "My sweet angel… I bought your school clothes! I know they're not that fantastic but they still are pretty great!" The lady held up the shopping bags and I groaned in frustration. I took the clothes from her hands and muttered a soft "Thank you." Before closing the door and hearing her heels fade away.
I went to my bathroom and did the usual. I bathed, brushed my teeth, and combed out my hair. After doing all of that I tried on the clothes and to my surprise they fitted perfectly. I patted down the long pleated skirt and I noticed something. What shoes am I going to put on? I open my closet and see all types of shoes but not one piqued the interest of my outfit. I sigh and resort to one other option which was putting on the shoes that my father bought me for my birthday. They were black flats because I didn't really like wearing sneakers and I thought it would look perfect for my school outfit. I put on the shoes and I walk up and down, all around my room loving the little tip-tap they made on the wooden floor. Queens High wasn't a religious school all you had to do was wear the colors. The colors of the school were black, white, gray, and yellow. I was wearing a black long pleated skirt with a white turtleneck and black flats. The two things that weren't in the school color was my hair color and skin color. My mom screams my name yet again so I take up my bookbag and poncho and rush downstairs.
My mother was waiting at the door smiling at her phone and I could only lift my eyebrows in a 'who are you flirting with?' notion. My mom takes her eyes off her phone and hugs me patting my back "You know how much I love you, right?" My mother says. I reply back "You love me way too much." My mom lets me go and kisses me on the cheek before catching the bus and heading to work.
Now it was just me versus the whole universe. The cold wintry air made my skin itchy and sting so in order to combat that problem, I slipped on my poncho and put the hood on my platinum white hair. I start to walk down the block and see a couple of kids bullying this little guy. The little guy was an alien with green skin and red hair. I was afraid to go help him but I knew that he saw me looking at him. All I did was shuffle and keep my head down.
I reach around the corner and breathe a sigh of relief until I feel a tap on my shoulder and an ominous figure lurking right behind me. I froze and held on to the pepper spray that was in my right pocket. My mom gave me pepper spray because in L.A some people like to do alien trafficking. I slowly turned around and screamed before spraying at the assailants' eyes. The terrorist also screamed and fell to the ground hurling over.
I open my eyes which by the way were closed and I see the boy from before! An immediate sense of guilt washed over me as I got on my knees and apologized to the boy "I'm so sorry! I didn't mean to spray you!" The boy groaned in agony so I opened my bag and took out a carton of milk. I said to him "Show me your eyes." The boy looked up and I splashed milk on his face. The boy looked at me in confusion while I took out my handkerchief and doused it in milk. I slap it on his face and rub it around into his eye "Hold it there." I say and he holds it right onto his eyes after a few minutes he takes it off his eyes and gives it back to me.
I smile sheepishly and he frowns. The fun fact for this occasion is that we aliens heal easily even when sprayed with pepper spray all you need to do is get milk and just pour it into your eyes and slowly the oil and spray come out. I get up and check my phone and I holler in madness. I'm going to be late if I don't hurry up and run to school! So I take out a piece of paper, write down my number and give it to the poor dude. I quickly get up and dust off the snow that was on my skirt and poncho.
Closing my bag I ran down the block. I turn around and cup my hands around my mouth and yell "Text me when the pain goes away!" I continue my run and I make it just in time. I walk into the building and see a police officer at the front desk looking at her phone. I shuffle in nervousness and take the hood off my head. I walk up to the desk and say " Hello miss, I was wondering if you could show me around the school since I'm pretty confused?"
The lady looked up and smiled. She took my hand and showed me all over the place. After the tour, the officer shows me to my morning class and says "I hope you have a great first day at our school." I smile and walk into the classroom. I see a bunch of kids just sitting around each other murmuring while glancing at me. The teacher looks up at me and immediately gets out of her chair while knocking down a couple of her books. The lady fixes her glasses before coming towards me smiling. "You are?" The teacher questions me and I reply nervously "My name is Wasmine Eouiq I'm the new transfer student."
The teacher looked at me and smiled and that smile seemed to be a light that lit up the whole classroom "I see… My name is Ms. Ein would you like to introduce yourself to the class?" Ms. Ein looks at me and I nod my head. She smiles and leads me to the front of the class. Ms.Ein clears her throat which got the class's attention. Ms. Ein looked down at me and smiled so I started to speak. "Hello! My name is Wasmine Eouiq, I'm 12-years-old and a transfer student." Then one mean boy looked at me and smirked yelling "You have a skin disease! Rashes!" Everyone laughed and giggled at that crude comment so I clutch the end of my poncho and start to cry a flood. Ms.Ein looked down at me and frowned.
I tried to stop the fountain of tears from falling down my face but no matter how many times I tried they still fell down my face in hot streaks but then I fell into a warm embrace. Ms. Ein hugged me and looked over at the other kids with anger. "You should be ashamed of yourselves! Just wait until I tell your father Adam he would not be happy with behavior like that!" The children all stopped laughing and grew silent, especially Adam. He was still like the summer air.
I stopped crying and Ms. Ein let me go. I looked up at her and now I get the reason why my mom always says to me "Hidden angels are everywhere you may not see them but they see you and they will always see you even in your darkest hour they will always be there to help you and guide you when your lost, afraid, and alone."
Ms. Ein showed me to my seat which was near her desk. I sat down and put my book bag next to my desk. "Whenever you need me or when someone tries to harm you physically or with words remember that I will be there to protect you." I smile and nod my head. She smiles back before heading up to the front of the class and starts teaching. I opened up my notebook and dipped my feather in ink before starting to write in my book about what Ms. Ein was teaching.
Once the class was finished I closed the ink bottle locking its latch and stuffing it in my bag. I take out my pencil case and put my feather in it, also dumping it in my bookbag. Once seeing everyone leave the classroom I walked out. Seeing the different rooms I got confused about which one I go into next so on instinct I try to ask people but instead someone asks me. "Hey, are you lost?" The calm but steady voice alarmed me so I turned around and saw this tall girl with brown skin brown eyes and brown hair look down on me with calm eyes. "Are you talking to me?" The girl scoffed in dismay and replied "No because I'm some dummy who talks to the wall?" My conscious alerts itself to the sarcasm she used and I look down. "So again, are you lost?" I reply in a mutter "Yes I am lost and confused since there are so many rooms and I don't know which one to go to." The girl sighed and walked me to the other side of the building.
I look at the class door number and see that this was where I was supposed to go for the second period. I smile and look up at the girl saying "How did you know?" she smirked, "When you're a part of the school committee group you must regularize yourself with the number of seats in all of the classrooms that being said there were more seats in this classroom than the others so I only came to the conclusion that this is your classroom." I was shocked and amazed. I asked for her name "What's your name?" The girl smiles at me and says "My name is Rein like rain but with an 'e' instead of an 'a'." I smile and laugh at her silly joke but when she laughed it was like I heard an angel and her skin glowed brighter than the sun.
