While the group is out chasing crime...
Fu Xi who hasn't appeared in a while is having tea in the courtyard with Blackie who stayed behind.
Taking a sip from his cup of tea, Fu Xi sighed in contentment. "How peaceful…" He murmured as his glasses slowly fog up. The eyes from behind the misty glasses quietly observe the dog sitting next to him.
Sitting on a stone chair next to Fu Xi, Blackie's two front paws cover the small teacup as he brings it near his mouth. Blowing gently to lower the temperature, he drank the whole cup before settling it down. "What wonderful tea, Daoist Fu." Blackie said as his eyes met Fu Xi's.
"You're overpraising Senior." Fu Xi chuckled as he poured another cup for Blackie. "This is just some tea I bought at the local market. It doesn't deserve your praises."
"You're mistaken." Blackie corrected, "what I'm praising is not the tea, but the person pouring the tea."
Two sets of eyes collided with each other in midair.
"Hahaha, Senior sure knows how to joke." Fu Xi chuckled.
"Hehehe, not as much as how you like to fake." Blackie refuted with a large smile, showing his sharp fangs.
"....."
"....."
"You dog."
"You snake."
"I knew I didn't like you from the first time we met." Blackie said scornfully.
I hate snakes like you the most. "Fine, tell me. What do you want?"
"Not much." Fu Xi replied, "just a bit of information from you." Taking a sip from his cup, he continued, "I heard from Envoy Chu, she came here to catch some escaped prisoners. Judging from the powerful aura you've been restraining, you must be one of them." He said meaningfully.
Blackie's eyes immediately sharpened, "Oh, you've got some good eyesight for a human. Aren't you afraid? I might take the opportunity of Her Honor's absence to take care of you. Although I might be punished, Her Honor won't do anything else to me at this point in time."
Even though Her Honor looks at him scornfully, he does have his uses. Plus, other than Her Honor, no one in Hell has the qualifications to contain him. Another reason why she would rather keep him by her side than send him back.
"You won't do anything to me, rather, you are unable to do anything." Fu Xi smirked. "Humans have human laws, Envoys have Hell laws. The same goes for you especially, a ghost wearing a collar." Turning the cup in his hand with three fingers, he stares at it as he continued, "That is why humans cannot kill easily, cannot steal or destroy as they wish. Just like how Envoys cannot cause another person's death, cannot save a dying person, nor are they omnipotent. That is why you, who are restricted by Envoy Chu's laws, cannot do anything to me."
"..." Blackie turned his sight away from Fu Xi to look at the scenery in the courtyard. His lips are smiling, but his eyes show not an ounce of emotions. This is the real Blackie. Although he always either pretends to be an obedient or cowardly ghost in front of Chu Nuan. In front of others, this facade is not needed, he is too lazy to act in front of unnecessary people. This act is only reserved for her only, not because he is scared or wary of her. But because he cares about what she thinks.
"I've long heard of Senior Disciple Fu Xi's infamous name. It's as disgusting as rumors mentioned." Blackie taunted.
"You are flattering me too much Senior." Fu Xi said, pretending to be embarrassed. "I only did what I needed to do to secure my future job. As you know, all senior disciples of the sect are guaranteed to become high ranking envoys the moment they die. This is one of the reasons why this sect was created. And why I'm working so hard to pave an easier road for the future disciples that will walk the same path."
"If you are able to pass the final test, that is. Why work so hard when they don't even know? Even the three out with Her Honor is unaware." Blackie said, eyes never leaving the view in front of him.
"They are unaware now, but eventually, they will know." Fu Xi thought. After he dies, then Hong Wen will be the next to know, then Lei Lin, and many more after them. They will all know eventually.
"If I am able to help Envoy Chu with her mission this time, I might be able to raise myself to a higher status. Maybe even a position at one of the Kings' side." Fu Xi said excitingly, his eyes shining with a bright light.
"Oh." Blackie said without interest. "It doesn't have anything to do with me."
"It does." Fu Xi said in an enticing voice as he slowly leaned closer. "Senior. Would you be interested in making a deal with me?" He said slowly as his eyes flashed with an eerie red.
