The next day.
Chu Nuan sat on the bed with both her hands covering her face. A dark and gloomy aura pervades the room.
Last night, after Xie Luochen's heartfelt confession, Chu Nuan felt half her soul leaving her body. She didn't even know when he left nor how she moved to her bed. But the moment she snapped out of her daze, the morning sun was shining at her.
She removed her face from her hands, to stare intensely at the ceiling instead. As if trying to burn a hole through the roof.
"Blackie, what is the meaning of life?" Chu Nuan asked.
Blackie, whose licking the fur on his paws stopped for a second before answering, " your honor, I am a dog now, and the only meaning in life for a dog is to eat and play."
"Oh, a dog huh? A dog is nice. Maybe things will be different if I'm a dog instead." Chu Nuan mumbled absentmindedly.
Looking at such a depressed Chu Nuan, Blackie tried consoling her, "truthfully, your honor, the situation is not as bad as you think. Since this is based on a misunderstanding, all you need to do is ask Bai Ling to explain the situation."
Stimulated by the name, "Bai Ling," her face starts to twist up in frustration. " Your right," Chu Nuan said slowly. "It's all Bai Ling's fault."
Blackie, "ah?"
"If it wasn't for him, I wouldn't be stuck with the title, "mother!" What flower boy? He wants to be a delicate flower? Sure! I'll let him be a flower! The next time I see him, I'll turn him into a red chrysanthemum!"
Blackie, "....your honor, please-"
"Your Honor?" Chu Nuan starts to chuckle, "hehehe. No, call me mother!" She said while walking towards the tea table.
Reaching for a teacup, she continued,"didn't you hear, he called me mother! Hehehe! I can accept him treating me like a stranger. But as a mom?" Her grip on the teacup tightened.
"Crack!" The cup shattered, water droplets splilled down her arm.
Just as she was about to continue cursing Bai Ling, a knock came from the door.
"Envoy Chu, this is Fu Xi. There is something I would like to discuss with you. If possible, would you follow me to the main hall?"
Chu Nuan stood silently for a moment before reverting back to a tranquil state. Flicking the water off her arm, she glanced at a corner of the room.
"Follow," she ordered while walking to the door.
-----------------------------
Glancing inside the main hall as she approached with Fu Xi, Chu Nuan could make out three fuzzy figures sitting in the distance. One of them being Xie Luochen.
The moment she stepped inside the hall, two curious gazes swept over her. Ignoring those inquiring sights, she moved leisurely towards Xie Luochen.
Her eyes skimmed past his face for a second, before sitting herself on the seat next to him with her legs crossed. Pretending not to notice those twitching lips of his, she casually reached for the teacup he is sipping on.
Tracing the rim of the small cup with her fingers, she took a sip of tea before placing the cup back down.
Staring at the frozen Xie Luochen with unusually bright eyes, Chu Nuan figured it all out on her way here. This person is a block of ice. He is also a rabbit. He is currently a frozen rabbit.
In order for her to dine on him, she must first defrost this piece of frozen rabbit meat with her persistence and warmth. After that, she'll marinate with a myriad of spices, creating ambiguous situations and dialogues, slowly seeping her presence into him. As for the cooking part...heh, heh, she will….to him…..
Ahem! Either way, when she's through with the first three steps she won't even need to place the rabbit on the plate. The rabbit will jump onto her plate (palm) himself. What's there to worry after that, she thought evilly.
"Cough, cough." Fu Xi cleared his throat, acting as if he didn't see what Chu Nuan had done. Instead he turned to the other two, Envoy Chu, let me introduce you to the other two member of our sect."
Pulling her thoughts away in annoyance, Chu Nuan turned to observe the two across from her.
The man on the right took a step forward the moment his eyes made contact with Chu Nuan's. "Pleasure to meet you, Envoy Chu. I am the second disciple of Dark Moon Sect, Hong Wen. First off, please let me express my thanks for taking care of our little brother. Luochen has informed us of what happened yesterday, if it wasn't for you, the case wouldn't have ended on such a peaceful note. The man named Hong Wen smiled gratefully at Chu Nuan.
Although he acts humble, every action of his emits a type of confidence and strength. A trait often seen in someone used to taking a leading role. He is wearing a black ironed suit, with barely a speck of dust on it. Definitely a meticulous type. Short dark hair, honest looking eyes.
Chu Nuan was about to move her gaze away, when something from his pants pocket caught her eye. "Oh?" She smiled lightly, no doubt, the man in front of her is not just a simple daoist.
Moving her gaze away, she looked at the person peering curiously at her. Large round eyes, curly brown hair, innocent face with a small stature, his age seems to be around Xie Luochen's.
Prepared for his introduction, the man on the left took a step forward with a bow. "Third disciple of Dark Moon Sect, Lei Lin, it's an honor to meet you Envoy Chu."
Chu Nuan nodded in acceptance, seeing his expression as if there is something he wants to say, she said, "if there is anything you want to know, feel free to ask."
Receiving her permission, Lei Lin blurted out, "Are you older than the three of us combined?"
The moment his words came out, the air around the hall turned chilly.
Knowing that he said the wrong thing by accident, Lei Lin tried to rescue the situation by explaining, "it's my first time seeing an envoy. I heard only special souls can become envoys, they wandered Hell for thousands of years. And when I saw you, you looked so young, I thought envoys are all grannies. I, I just wanted to know how old you are." He said in a fluster, sentence barely making any sense.
"Hahaha." Chu Nuan laughed coldly, thinking in her mind, "not just a granny, I'm even your great ancestor, you brat!"
Mesmerized by Chu Nuan's smile, Lei Lin continued to dig a deep grave. " Envoy Chu, although you look a little pale, your skin is in great condition. Are all elderly envoys like you?"
This time Chu Nuan laughed even brighter. Remembering the greviances from yesterday plus what happened just now.
She thought, "good, very good kid! You have successfully captured my attention. This auntie will show you what it means to mess with an elder!"
Actions show louder than thoughts. She immediately took out her phone. Pressing a few keys quickly, she sent a message to Bai Ling.
Feeling her mood lightened with this message, Chu Nuan glanced up from her screen.
Looking as if a saint praying for world peace, she clasped her hands to her chest. Eyes overflowing with gentleness, she said, "child. Never ask for a woman's age."
