|ChanHyuck's POV|
"Jia, can you come up here with me. I need you to read something for me." I hold my phone out for JiSu and she hesitantly takes it.
Tears fill her eyes as she looks down at the screenshot. She swallows hard as she looks up from the phone in search of someone. The moment she finds her, her face lights up.
"Can you read this for me while your fan comes up on stage?" I ask as I hand her the microphone. She nods weakly as she prepares herself.
"Jia, that's your name, right? You're really pretty. I love your voice, too. I wish I was as pretty as you are. I wish I was as talented as you are. I'm nothing compared to you. I know you don't know me. I know you never will. I just wanted to thank you before I said goodbye. Your posts got me through a lot. Your lives stopped me from doing some stupid things, but I can't keep putting it off. So, thank you and goodbye." JiSu shakes her head as she shoves my phone back at me. She holds her hand out for HeiRan's and pulls her close. HeiRan chuckles softly as she takes the microphone from JiSu and dries her tears.
"Hello, I'm HeiRan. My story is actually quite short, but a lot of people say it's really powerful. When I was fifteen, my family was in a very bad car accident. My parents both died on the scene. My little brother was taken to the hospital, but died the next day. He was only four. I was the only one who survived. I sat in the car covered in blood crying while snow fell around us. I couldn't move. I couldn't do anything to help anyone. All I could do is listen to my brother's pained cries while the cd we had been listening to kept repeating the same line over and over—I wish you happiness forever, goodbye. It was like my parents were letting me know that they were gone." HeiRan pauses to catch her breath.
"It took a long time, but I managed to get back on my feet. I was living with my grandma, who was diagnosed with cancer not even two months after she took me in. I'll spare you the gruesome details—she died on my seventeenth birthday. It's a lot to take in when you're only seventeen. Losing your entire family in two years—it's hard. I turned to self harm to try and help numb the pain. It helped for a little while, but it wasn't enough. I knew it was time. It was my turn to join my family. I left that comment on one of Jia's singing videos on Instagram. I wasn't expecting a response. I didn't even think she'd see it, but not even a minute later and she had responded." HeiRan stops and turns away as she's overcome with emotion. JiSu takes the microphone from her and holds her.
"I quoted a song by Lee Hi. I responded with some lyrics from the song Breathe and told her to hold on tight. I told her that life gets better—even if it doesn't seem like it will. All we can do is breathe." JiSu recalls her comment as she rubs HeiRan's back. HeiRan pulls away and takes the microphone back.
"I owe Jia my life. I wouldn't be here without her." HeiRan states before quickly handing the microphone back to me.
