Chapter 19 - Humanity

The spirit's killing intent was really strong!

Zhou Kai was shocked upon hearing the old spirit's words.

What kind of grudge is it holding that makes it wish to exterminate the whole family?

I'm sorry I have encountered this situation, but I will not allow you to do such a thing. My kind heart will not allow it.

Zhou Kai walked over and collided with the old spirit.

The old spirit was stunned, as it had not expected that anyone would be able to touch him.

Zhou Kai looked at the old spirit and scolded it. "Are you blind, stupid old man? Scram!"

The old spirit was speechless.

Zhou Kai pushed the old spirit away roughly, feeling impatient. Then, he took over its spot and watched the chaos in delight.

The old spirit's face darkened as its eyes shone with malicious light. Then, it rushed over to Zhou Kai's body with a cunning smile.

Ding-Dong: A gluttony spirit attacked you. Digestion +1.

Ding-Dong: A gluttony spirit attacked you. Digestion +1.

The sound rang only twice.

The old spirit possessing Zhou Kai was frightened and wanted to escape. However, Zhou Kai controlled the Exorcism power he had, making it engulf his body and thus sealing away any escape routes. The old spirit seemed to be burned by fire as it started to become increasingly fainter.

"Have mercy, have mercy. Let me off, let me off." The old spirit, which was frightened, started begging.

Zhou Kai sneered. "Why did you not let him off? Why were you even thinking of harming his family?"

The old spirit said, "That man is my son, sir. He plotted my death. Should I not take revenge then?"

Zhou Kai was dumbfounded.

Holy sh*t, the son killed the father? That's such an inhumane act!

"You are lying." Zhou Kai insisted in disbelief.

"I'm telling the truth, sir. That is really my son. I was sick, and he despised me for that. He refused to allow me to seek treatment. After starving me for five days, he suddenly gave me a lot of good food to eat, causing me to die from eating too much. It was only after my death that I discovered that this b*stard had planned my murder. I'm unwilling to let this matter rest. How could he not have taken care of me when I was old and sick given the fact that I raised him? In that case, why did I even bother raising him? I want him to die. I want him to lose his progeny." As the old spirit spoke, its tone became increasingly more venomous.

Zhou Kai sighed. "Your son is indeed unfilial. However, was it really good that you did such a thing? If he loses his progeny, this means that your bloodline will disappear as well."

The old spirit hastily said, "I was wrong. Sir, I know that I was in the wrong. Please let me off. I promise not to harm anyone else."

Zhou Kai laughed.

The spirit had changed its mind really fast.

However, since Zhou Kai recognized the spirit's true nature, he refused to believe its words!

Spirits were created by the anger and evil intentions of humans, with revenge being their most prominent goal.

The old spirit had killed its son and tried to harm his family. Perhaps, it might harm even more people for the sake of its own survival. This was a completely inhumane act.

Zhou Kai was not concerned about the son's death, for it was well-deserved given the unscrupulous actions of the son.

However, the children, who were innocent, would be killed by their own grandfather.

Zhou Kai decided not to let this spirit off, as he did not wish to let a tragedy occur.

He used the Exorcism power along with his Will and enveloped the old spirit with them.

The old spirit did not have the opportunity to beg for mercy before it disintegrated without a trace.

"What do you think, Big Brother? Did you gain any comprehension from this?" Little Leopard Cat, who had been standing beside Zhou Kai for an unknown period of time, asked as she ate the chicken thigh she was holding.

Zhou Kai looked at her. "What kind of comprehension?"

Little Leopard Cat pouted and replied, "Comprehension of humanity. My mother said that humans, and especially their minds, are the most complicated things in this world. They experience seven kinds of affection and six different kinds of desire and are thus very unpredictable. Therefore, the mortal world is a very dangerous place for cultivators but also the best place for them to train."

Zhou Kai said, "And?"

Little Leopard Cat looked at Zhou Kai with a serious expression. "Big Brother, I know that you are really curious about the cultivation world. However, are you ready to enter it? A true cultivator has an unwavering heart and walks a resolute path. Cultivators call this the Dao heart. The cultivation path is something one must continue walking on no matter the obstacles one faces."

Zhou Kai said, "So you are saying that I have yet to find this heart and path."

Little Leopard Cat nodded. "Take this spirit possession for example. Did you think that the son was evil and the old spirit was pitiful, Big Brother?"

Zhou Kai did not reply as he looked at Little Leopard Cat in question.

Little Leopard Cat explained. "I know a certain kind of magic that allows me to see some snippets of a deceased person's memories. I saw some bad memories of the fatty. The old spirit had bone cancer for two years. This was no longer curable, although the son spent millions on the treatment. Also, the son's business was in deep trouble due to the father's sickness. However, the old spirit did not want to die and wanted the son to allow him to seek treatment overseas at a hospital that is said to be exceptionally successful in the treatment of bone cancer. Consequently, the whole family's motives changed. For the sake of their child, the wife instructed the son to kill his father."

Zhou Kai was dumbfounded.

Holy sh*t, that is the story behind this incident?

Little Leopard Cat said, "Who do you think was in the wrong now, Big Brother? The father? The son? Or perhaps the wife?"

Zhou Kai felt conflicted.

This question was very hard to answer.

Everyone was at fault, but they all had their own reasons for acting the way they had.

The father had not wanted to die, the son had wished to keep the family intact, and the wife had wanted the best for their child.

Zhou Kai fell silent.

Little Leopard Cat chewed on the chicken thigh silently. Her eyes blinked as though she felt hope for Zhou Kai.

Zhou Kai's expression changed a moment later, and he smiled. "Little Leopard Cat, your question almost killed me."

Little Leopard Cat's eyes lit up. "Have you thought of an answer, Big Brother?"

Zhou Kai replied, "No. Or rather, I refuse to think about it." Then, with a determined glint in his eyes, he said, "What does this have to do with me? The human heart is unpredictable. Each person has their own goals, and humans naturally change. My pursuit is my own conscience. I wish to escape this mortal realm and the six great divisions in the wheel of reincarnation."

Little Leopard Cat rolled her eyes upon hearing that. "Your words are pointless, and you are simply daydreaming."

Zhou Kai chuckled. "I don't know what the Dao heart is exactly, but I think that I know what kind of Dao path I'm embarking on. I have my own goals."

As she stared at Zhou Kai's easy-going smile, a grin slowly formed on Little Leopard Cat's face. "So what do you think of forming a soul contract with me, Big Brother? I believe that I can take a risk with you. Do you wish to take a risk?"

Zhou Kai looked at Little Leopard Cat. "Are you sure? I rejected you previously resolutely. I don't possess the same resolution this time."

Little Leopard Cat remained silent as she put down the chicken thigh and hugged Zhou Kai's arm. Then, she opened her mouth, revealing her two fangs, and bit his arm.

Zhou Kai felt a bolt of pain. Just as he was about to struggle, his body suddenly trembled and relaxed.
