Chapter 47 - The Unknown

I... Let's think about this later.

Her proud smile, her condescending eyes filled with sincere and simple satisfaction, her confidence, her helplessness when it came to my overload of affection...

I don't know about anything else, but I'm sure that I don't want to lose any of them to someone else. Those traits are ones only I can see, and I want it to remain that way.

That's something I'm sure of.

But the question comes: to what extent should I try to possess her?

If the crown prince of the kingdom of Loen or a top-class magician comes personally to chase after Asura, should... should I continue to court her?

What's the point of courting her anyway?

Why am I so set on doing so?

In the end, the question comes back in circles...

Was this purely for amusement? And if not, what is it that I'm feeling?

It's the unknown that makes people afraid.

"Um... Lancera, class is over already..." beside me, a small, petite voice whispered, disrupting my train of thought.

Hmm?

I looked over with my eyebrows tightly furrowed. It seems like I was too absorbed in my thoughts to even notice the changes in my surroundings... That's not a good development.

I'll need to take care of this soon, or else...

"Um... L-Lancera?" The girl's small voice turned even quieter.

"Ah..." My eyes had gotten several degrees colder without me noticing. "Sorry, I was thinking of something else... Thanks for telling me." I blushed in embarrassment.

The girl's eyes softened as she nodded. "In that case, um, do you have a moment to spare?"

"Yes?"

"L-Let's go outside first..." She had a slightly elite shade of light gray hair that was polished with ribbons and hung by her shoulders. As she stood up from her seat to lead me out of the classroom, her shiny hair swished along, showcasing the splendor of wealth.

I recognized her as one of Asura's most loyal lackeys who's been by her side ever since the very start, the daughter of a wealthy merchant, Rachel Moor.

What did she want with me?

Arriving outside the door, I saw Rachel wave over a group of girls, among them Danielle Dyewater, who was from one of the Ducal houses.

"Is something the matter?" I gently curtsied towards Danielle and her companions.

"Well," Danielle chortled, " Rachel here has a question for you."

Rachel nodded shyly, her feet fidgeting in anxiousness. "T-The thing is..." Her face began flushing a deep red the further she spoke. "I-Um... I want to be friends with your brother... You see, I share a class with him, and I noticed how unapproachable he seems... a-and I wanted to have some tips on how to become friends with him from you... just friends! Nothing more!"

As the girl twirled a lock of her silver hair, she nervously raised her equally silver eyes to meet mine. But the second she did so, she seemed to be frozen, unable to say another word.
