Chereads / When The Goddess Fell In Love / Chapter 66 - Chapter 66

Chapter 66 - Chapter 66

Wendy gasped, grabbing her throat as she choked on the black smoke filling her body. As her only resort, she had broken all the bottles of powder that contained a substance to ward off evil but it had no effect on this creature as if he wasn't evil. Her eyes eventually rolled back with death drawing in. She had done her job of alerting the king about Artemis so her job was done. Now she could join the afterlife and be free.

"Ah-ah, don't try to let go now. My mistress prefers to not send people she doesn't like to the underworld. We're fans of completely wiping out your existence," Chaos grinned watching on as Wendy struggled one last time before going limp.

Catherine screamed seeing the woman's body fall lifeless to the floor. She moved to be directly behind Darius for him to protect her. Why did he ever think keeping this thing in his bedroom was a good idea? There should have been dozens of guards watching it for a moment like this.

Darius took a step back, almost crashing into Catherine in the process. He thought about all the times he had talked down on this creature and threw things at it. Darius didn't believe he wasn't going to die right now after the way he had treated it. This creature also listened to every word he spoke about the forest and there was no doubt in his mind the Goddess had found out he was going to invade the forest with an army.

"What do you want from me if you aren't going to kill me?" Darius asked the creature. From the commotion, his guards should be trying to break down the door soon enough. He just needed to stall to keep it busy. He'll kill it this time instead of keeping it chained up.

"My name is Chaos. Address me by my name, please. And one thing you must know, I am pretty good at lying but I always keep my promises. Princess," Chaos for the first time acknowledged the young woman he made the deal with. He could smell the fear radiating off of her as she probably thought he was going to expose her. Well, she was right. "King Darius, would you do the honor of letting your sister become queen? It is her greatest desire."

Darius looked back at his sister for a moment. She shook her head denying the claim as he believed she should. There was no reason why she should wish to be a queen when the chances of it were low. "I am not giving up being king to anyone. Do not say such foolish things."

"Come one princess. I admire greed more than fear. If you want to make everyone who looks down on you bow to you in the future, stop being so scared or I will kill both of you. Are you going to continue being scared or take what you want? I don't have all day." Chaos could hear the guards gathering outside the king's room attempting to break it down after one of them brought him a message but got no response. 'Little pest,' he thought.

"What is going on Catherine? Do not allow this thing to get inside of your head," said Darius.

"He doesn't want to give up his crown to you willingly. The sad tale of many princesses. They will never know what it is like to be a queen. Did you know if not for wanting to keep Alexander close by your brother was going to marry you off to the third prince of a neighboring kingdom? Even when his advisor told him the man was said to have an anger problem and treated his servants badly. But it must be worth it for the aid your brother would get should he ever go to war. Isn't that right king Darius?"

"We must all play our parts as royals. Catherine knows that as a princess her happiness comes after what is best for the people of this kingdom. My sister and I will not be swayed by the things you are saying-"

Catherine placed her hand on her brother's shoulder disagreeing with what he said. "Is that so brother? When have people come before your happiness? You have always thought about yourself first and then everyone else comes after. As your sister, I naively thought it would be different for me but I'm not. I would love to become queen, Darius. Of this kingdom to be specific. "

Darius looked at his sister like she had spewed madness, which she did in his eyes. "Catherine, when have you ever heard of a princess becoming king when there is already a prince turned king? Have you lost your mind," Darius couldn't help laughing at Catherine to her face. It was the stupidest thing he had ever heard his sister wanted.

"I am tired of all of you laughing at me and just using me for your own benefit. My happiness comes before the people. Chaos," she called out to the creature who promised to help her become queen. "I wish to become the queen of this kingdom. My brother won't give it to me willingly, what will you do now?"

Darius was surprised to see his sister plotting with the creature against him. "Y-You," he pointed his sword to her, considering Catherine to be his enemy now.

"The better question, princess, is what will you do now?" Chaos asked as he made the king's sword disappear and made one appear in Catherine's hand.
