The guards raised their swords higher in shock at the sudden change of the girl's eyes. They didn't want to wait for her to make the next move considering a monster was unpredictable and one guard was already dead.
Forget taking her to the king alive, the best option which guaranteed all of them leaving here alive would be to cut her down right now. They wanted to please the king for capturing a monster but none of them wanted to risk their lives doing it.
How could you enjoy the King's rewards if you died?
One guard who was overly confident made the first step to cut down what he perceived to be a monster. He raised his sword in the air, in position to strike her down, and swiftly brought the sword down to cut the girl's chest.
Everyone stood frozen in anticipation to see the girl fall to her knees after having her chest pierced but instead of falling to her death, she simply looked down at the newly created wound.
'It doesn't hurt,' she mentally thought, staring down at the bleeding wound. She placed her right hand on the sword while the guard was struggling to remove it from her body.
Annoyed with his movements, she pushed him back with her free hand, which freed his hands of the sword. By herself, she slid the sword out from being stuck in her chest. Blood dripped to the ground as the sword was removed from her body. The formed wound immediately started to heal. She looked at the blood on the sword then at the guard who stuck her. He trembled under the gaze of her red eyes.
"A-Attack her or we'll all die," he told his fellow comrades who were equally scared.
Her lip twitched in annoyance at their urge to have a fight. The need to quench her thirst had only grown at the sight of more blood. In the blink of an eye, she dropped the sword and grabbed the guard who hurt her.
Her enlarged teeth went straight for the neck, ripping it away from his body. The guard's body squirmed in her hand as the life from the body started to fade away.
"Y-You..." his words trailed off as the last ounce of life left his body.
She released his limp body, dropping it to the ground. The feeling of thirst had changed to the sudden interest to just kill the others standing in front of her. For a moment, it felt thrilling to see life leave their eyes.
With speed, they couldn't imagine she started attacking the others while Richard made a run for it. Why would they choose to fight a monster? Were they stupid? The best idea would be to run and call the rest of the army before even thinking of an attack.
"Guards are really cowardly. Sworn to protect but are running away. That's why I suffered without any help."
Richard trembled as he ran, hearing the girl's words as if she were speaking to him. No matter how much he ran, he knew there wasn't a chance of him escaping tonight.
"There's a monster in the palace! There's a monster in the palace! Get the general or the king!" He screamed at the top of his lungs hoping someone would hurry up and help him.
Richard gasped feeling something grab onto his arm, stopping him from running any further. "Please no. I haven't done anything wrong! Please," He sobbed, begging for his life.
"I see a dark cloud all around you. I don't think you're innocent," The young girl said looking into the terrified eyes of Richard. Guards used to torment some of the villagers who were poor like her. They deserve to die, just like her. "You can meet your friend in the afterlife."
"No-"
Richard was silenced from her piercing her hand through his chest to grab his heart and pull it out. His mouth still trembled, trying to utter his last words but it was hopeless as life left his body.
The girl's body started to sway as her head started to hurt. The feeling of killing was disappearing and she gained complete consciousness. sHE panicked upon seeing the man she killed.
"What is wrong with me?" She muttered holding her head. What was she? To be able to kill these skilled men. "Why am I alive?" She wondered.
There was a noise like a spark passing over her head. She slowly looked up and saw a white light. Her red eyes changed back to normal upon seeing the light and suddenly, she disappeared from the palace into a forest.
Upon her arrival in the forest, she saw a woman standing by a lake.
"Hello? Who are you? How did I get here?" She questioned hoping this person would help her. The guards were useless when it came to telling her what she needed to know.
"What is your name?" Artemis asked, not answering any of the questions.
"Abagail, my name is Abigail. What is your name?" Abigail asked the woman who was backing her. Was this the forest no one entered? To think there was just a woman on the inside.
"Artemis, the wonderful Goddess who has been living here all alone. You should be thanking me for answering your wish, Abigail. I have to give you props for an entertaining wish. So much anger for such a young girl. Tell me, how does it feel to kill so easily?"
Abigail was confused about the wish the woman spoke of. "What are you talking about?"
"Did you forget about it already? Don't you remember wishing to kill all of them? Your family I mean. I granted the wish. You don't seem too appreciative of it which is a shame since I rarely help out others."
Abigail's eyes widened at the revelation. She approached the woman wanting to see who helped her. She already died once, nothing about this situation scared her. As she stood beside the woman who was standing in front of the lake, she noticed how beautiful the woman was.
"Are you-"
Abigail's words were interrupted when Artemis pushed her into a lake and said, "One day you'll be useful to me. Find your path until then."
The last thing Abigail saw was Artemis's smile right before she was consumed by the water. She closed her eyes as something dragged her further down to the bottom of the lake.
