It's morning, and I had just been summoned by the queen to find her fiance that ran away again last night. It wasn't hard to figure out. Since moving here, there is only one place he would go. After leaving the queen, I headed to the stables. Sure enough, the black warhorse was gone. I saddled the palomino in the next stall, and took it out. The ride out to the Sea of Flowers takes half a day's ride, and I knew I had to find him before the banquet tonight.
Why today? I mean he knows he must be there. How can you have a betrothal banquet without both parties, and she has gone all out for this one. The flowers, the settings, the food, everything was more than I ever saw, but James wanted nothing more to do with it. I don't understand why James even agreed to this wedding to begin with... Then I remember that day in the throne room before we left.
With a deep breathe, I let my thought end there. I have loved James since I was given to him as a child. My mom was a prostitute in a brothel, and saw me as her way to get out. So she sold me to the Crown Prince at 6 months old. I was fortunate enough that the Crown Prince came into the brothel that day. Stickened with grief, his Concort just lost her son weeks earlier, and was in deep morning. So to sooth her grief, he bought, took me home, and gave me to her. As a result, the Concort never saw me as her's, and gave me to other's for my care. Weeks later, the Crown Princess gave birth to James. It was at age 5 that I was then given to James as a birthday gift from the Concort of the Crown Prince. It was as if I was raised to be just his. As the years continued, I learned everything beside him. How to talk. How to fight. How to think. How to love. After all, he is my first love.
It was that day in the throne room that I really saw him. It was like the first time I really saw him for him. Short light honey brown hair that framed a white heart shaped face. Sky blue eyes that lite up a room as soon as he entered. Small peach colored lips that I just want to eat every day. I have worked, lived, and loved James from that point on. It was James who taught me what true love was, and I am watching it walk away every day since being here.
As I reached the Sea of Flowers, I found Duke, James' Arabian stallion, in the tree line at the entrance to the meadow. I rode Sugar up beside him, and climbed down. I looked over the ocean of flowers. Not seeing, but feeling that he is here, I call out to him.
"James, James, where are you? We are going to be late, and Her Royal Highness will have my head if you aren't ready this time." It's only been the second time this banquet has been postponed due to his disappearances. I scanned the ocean of purple, white, and gold for any sign of James. Not seeing any trace among the flowers, I call again.
"James, this is no longer funny. You are seriously going to get me killed." I watched as some flowers moved. 'There you are.' Using what we learned as children, I pretended that I didn't see it, and I started moving in a grid like motion making sure to not let the pare of eyes that were following me leave.
I walked until his eyes left me. I got behind him, and reached down. I grabbed his shoulder, and said, "There you are." He made a small jump backwards as I was smiling down to him. I tucked a gold flower behind his ear, and stood back in awh of this man. Oh how I love him. Even more how I am going to miss him as well. He keeps saying that we won't change, but until we stop this wedding and the war, I can't see it. I smiled down at him, and helped him to his feet.
"Really, James, we have to be going. We can't be late," I said as calmly as I could. He was inches from my face, and I yurned for him to kiss and take me right here. Then I just realized why I was here. I was here to bring him to her...
So I looked down, gently took his hand, and began leading him toward the tree line. As we got closer, I took James up to Duke. I watched as the horse knock him down, snorted, turned its head, and walk away. I grabbed Sugar's reigns, and looked back at him. "Really, we have to go. Duke is over there," and pointed to the warhorse. I watched as Duke gave small whimpers to James as if they were in a deep conversation. Not wanting to pass the opportunity to tease James, I say, "Awh, how cute, but we really need to go. You can chat with Duke later," rolling my eyes in discuss. Finally Duke bows and let's James on. I look down the road towards the the palace, knowing that I have James in hand. I am safe. I can...
Just then I looked behind me. James and Duke were gone.
