Chapter 10 - Mutation

After looking through some other material about the Crazy Immortal Sutra, Alex finally found a research paper he was looking for. It was eponymously titled "On the relationship between luck cultivation and special body physiques."

However, when Alex tried to access the paper, to his dismay he found that the entire paper had been redacted without notice. The research had been classified. Sighing at his bad luck, Alex left the library and went to the Monster Zone to hunt for the Gusty Rabbit.

The hunt of the Accuracy Eye skill pearl had been extremely frustrating for Alex. He had killed over a hundred gusty rabbits, he had still been unable to find a single pearl with the skill he required. Until now, he had absorbed a Speed +9 and a Wind Attribute +9 pearl and sold the rest.

After renting equipment, Alex walked towards a new direction of the hunting zone, after looking at the latest edition of the monster herds tracking map he had purchased. This was one of the few areas where the Gusty Rabbit had been spotted, that Alex hadn't yet visited in the Blue Palm Monster Zone.

Quickly tracking his way ahead, Alex arrived at a mound of three conjoined hills, that had a common swire like valley. Within the valley, Alex spotted a rather large burrowing tunnel near which, Alex could see several Gusty Rabbits jumping around.

Gusty Rabbits were a rather docile species. They were herbivorous, and had no attacking skill to call their own. However they had fine senses and a hasty retreating habit at the first sight of danger. It was why Alex had positioned himself carefully, not allowing himself to be visible.

After some mental preparation, Alex took aim, held his breath and began shooting. Within a few seconds, rabbits began to topple over one after the other like dominoes. Alex got into an unbeatable rhythm of shooting rapidly and perfunctorily, each shot accurately reaching its target. Soon all twelve rabbits had been killed by Alex.

Observing no other rabbit, Alex finally walked down the valley towards the entrance of the burrow and began gutting the rabbits to find the pearls. To his surprise and shock, he discovered that not a single one of the rabbits had a pearl.

"How is this possible?" Alex was stunned, did his bad luck act up? But he had not felt any bad luck collect within him at all.

At that moment, Alex suddenly felt a sense of dread and immediately jumped sideways, only to see a shadow smash into the air, exactly where his own head had been mere instances prior.

He turned to see an oversized rabbit that was actually red in color, looking at the carcasses of the other rabbits before turning towards Alex with a gloomy and ferocious look on its face.

Alex felt his heart cool down. "This rabbit feels different." He thought as he immediately inspected the rabbit.

[Mutated Gusty Rabbit]

[Ordinary Grade 9]

[Ability - Sudden Burst, Precision Accuracy]

Alex raised an eye. This was a mutated variety of the species and the sudden burst appeared to be the attack skill the rabbit had used just now to attack him with blinding speed. Accuracy Eyes had actually changed to Precision Accuracy.

The rabbit charged again and used the Sudden Burst skill once again and rushed towards Alex like a jet, its strong legs streaking towards Alex's face. At Ordinary Grade 9, Alex would have been no match for the rabbit a day earlier, however, having broken through today, he actually had a chance retaliate. Once again, Alex dodged.

The rabbit wasn't stupid. It had already expected Alex to dodge and preemptively changed its trajectory as it launched towards the right. Only as it launched into the air, its eyes were filled with shock as she saw that Alex did not dodge sideways at all, but rather tumbled forward before lying flat on his back in a swift motion.

The rabbit missed by a wide margin and while it was still in the Air, Alex had twisted his body and the bullets launched out of his gun without any pause. Within a second six powerful bullets sprayed out at varying angles, yet each striking the rabbit within fractions of a second at various points from heat to tail. The rabbit died before it got the chance to display its physical might.

Alex felt extremely mentally exhausted from the high intensity conflict that barely lasted a few seconds.

"My body has become quite strong, but my spirit seems to be my limiting weakness." Alex theorized as he trudged towards the carcass of the mutated rabbit that was littered with energy attribute origin bullets.

Digging through the carcass, Alex found a pale blue colored pearl that had a peculiar glint under the light of the evening sky. Alex inspected the pearl using his system.

[Precision Accuracy Skill Pearl]

[Precision Accuracy - Accuracy and Trajectory Projection Innate Talent, that allows to predict rapid movement with extreme precision. Mutated form of Accuracy Eye.]

Alex smiled. He finally found the skill pearl he had been looking for, and it turned out to be a mutated form even better than the initial one. Without any hesitation, Alex absorbed the skill pearl.

In an instant, an instinctual knowledge and talent began filling Alex's mind. Alex felt like he had known this knowledge all along, and realized that his previous ideas about accuracy and aiming were extremely naive. After a few minutes, Alex opened his eyes to a new world, one where his sensitivity to judge movement had improved many times over!

He quickly summoned his own status to observe the changes.

[Alex Hail]

[Ordinary Grade - 3]

[Cultivation System - Crazy Immortal Sutra]

[Skills - Gun Technique (Ordinary), Hunting (Ordinary)]

[Abilities -

1. Precesion Accuracy (Ordinary)]

Satisfied to find the change to his liking, Alex nodded and then quickly picked up all the carcasses and put them inside his rented spacial backpack. As he was putting the carcass of the larger mutated rabbit in, he saw a diamond shaped blood colored crystal drop out of the body. Curious, Alex inspected the object.

[Spirit Gem]

"Spirit Gem?" Alex wondered in surprise.
