Rachael Point Of View:
It's almost Christmas.
Blankets of white snow shimmering on the football field and chilly air surrounds this place. Ever since it has snowed, football season is over, and people are cozy in their homes. Barely anyone comes outside, but if they do, it's only for work or to shovel their driveways. Things have been quiet lately, too. Things like the tension between Hannah and Austin, they've been quiet ever since they broke off their friendship. Sophie and Mason are busy as usual: busy with competitions, with homework, with tests, and with life, I guess.
Today is the last day of November. Marking it one month of my relationship with Hannah, and I guess today is our one month anniversary. Hannah and I went official after she broke up her friendship with Austin, and many people weren't bothered by it. Yes, many people, not everyone accepted us. For example, my sister, Abby, was pissed and annoyed, and my parents supported us. Sarah was shocked, but she's still my friend. And Samantha?
Today also marks the day when I last saw her, and I don't mean it by she disappeared. We don't talk anymore. We don't mock each other anymore. We don't sit next to each other anymore. We aren't acquaintances anymore. It's like, we're strangers. The last time we spoke was finishing up our project for our class. I would be lying if I said I don't miss her. I do miss her. I miss her
appearance. I miss our conversations, even if she gets on my nerves, but I feel incomplete.
"Aren't you freezing?" A voice asks behind me. I turned around and saw Hannah standing there. Her footsteps trail behind her as she walks to me. As she gets closer, her arms are dark red roses and a teddy bear. Another free bear, I'm going to add it to my collection.
"What makes you think I'm freezing?" I question her, looking down at my leather jacket to my sweat pants to my combat boots. I may look ridiculous right now, but I'm comfy in them, and that is all I care about, not to impress others.
"Aren't you cold in that leather jacket?" Hannah answered with a question.
"No," I reply.
"I'm going to give you my scarf," She says as she takes off her scarf with one hand and wraps it around my neck. "There, a bit cozy."
"Thank you," I mumbled into the scarf, then stood on my toes as I peck her cheek.
"Happy one-month anniversary," We both said at the same time.
A smile plastered on Hannah's face, "Jinx."
"Jinx," I say, letting out a giggle.
She handed me the flowers and the teddy bear, "Here, these are for you."
"Aw, now Becky's bear got a company," I joke as I took the teddy bear from Hannah.
"No, this teddy bear is for you, not for your ex's teddy bear," Hannah says in annoyance.
"Oh, yeah?" I challenged her, raising a brow at her.
"Yeah, it's only for you," Hannah says, petting the bear on the head.
I hummed in agreement, and then I smirk at her, "I'm sure sharing won't hurt."
"Teddy bear doesn't have any feelings, Rachael," Hannah says a smirk on her face.
I smirk back, "True. Therefore, I should hang out more with Becky's teddy bear."
"What?" She exclaims, her hands went flying to her face. "Why?"
"Remember, teddy bear doesn't have anything feelings," I repeat her words as my smirk gets bigger.
"Shut up," Hannah says in defeat, she wraps her arms around me, pulling to her chest. I hold the teddy bear between us as I wrap my arms around her with the flowers in my hand. "I can't believe we're together for this long."
"What makes you think that?" I ask, resting my hand on her chest.
"From what I've done, and your sister hates me," Hannah whispers, shrugging a little.
"Hannah, so many things have changed, and you know it," I say as I pull away from her.
The color of her eyes isn't dark like the first time I saw it. It's brighter than before, but those aren't the eyes I wish I could stare at every day. When I said many things have changed, it includes me, too. I love Hannah, and she's caring and sweet. Well except, when she gets jealous. I love Hannah, and she wants to change herself into a better person. I've seen how much she has grown during our time together. She won't let her past get herself anymore, and is willing to learn from her mistakes.
However, I only love Hannah, and I'm in love with Samantha. My heart wants Samantha, but I know how difficult it would be to be with her. We've drifted apart for a month now, well, to be exact, 50 days, 4 hours, and 143 seconds.
I look at my watch around my wrist.
"Now, tell me why you're up here again?" Hannah asks, looking at the football field, which covered with glittering snows.
"Just enjoying the view from here," I lied, avoiding her eyes.
Even though I'm not looking at her, I could tell she's irritated from my answer. I don't blame her, because it has been the same answer I've been telling her every time she asks me the same question.
"Dude, you've been here ever since the last football game," Hannah says, a little annoyance in her voice. "Like why are you here, for real?"
"Just enjoying the view," I repeat.
"It's our anniversary, please don't tell me we're going to spend our day here," She says, tugging my leather jacket.
I let out a sigh and took her hand in mine.
"Sorry, let's get going," I say quietly.
We walk down the hill hand in hand to her car, and the cold winter air surrounds us. Hannah took the flowers from me and put it in the trunk as I snuggle up with the teddy bear in my seat.
"Where are we going, babe?" I ask when she gets in the driver's seat.
"A restaurant, but you need to change first," She smiles. "A dress is on your bed, so put it on, okay?"
"Okay," I say.
Hannah starts the car, driving me back to my house. Our hands intertwine between us as her left hand is on the steering wheel.
"I love you, Rachael."
"Me, too."
