Rachael Point Of View:
"For goodness sake Rachael Josephine McCracken, you've been slamming your alarm clock for the 5th time," my Mom said as she burst into my room. I open my eyes to look at her looking furious, but I went under my blanket again.
"Five more minutes, please," I mumble, tugging my blanket over my head.
I heard her stomping her way to my bed before she tugs my blanket off me.
"Young lady, you've got school today," She says glaring down at me.
I huff at her, "But I said please, I used my manners, Mommy."
"Do I look I care at this moment?"
"...yes?"
"Get your lazy butt into the bathroom, you're going to be late for school."
"You mean sleepy butt?" I ask nicely.
"Racheal Joseph-"
"Nevermind, I'm going to the bathroom right now."
I drag my body into the bathroom, I'm so glad this year is my senior year. I don't think my body can handle another year of waking up at 7:30 anymore.
I look at my reflection, oh geez, I look like a monster.
"I swear, can't I just wake up looking pretty? At least once...Nah, it's too much to ask. Or because those people who wake up looking pretty because they don't sleep at night."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Can't I just stay at home?" I ask my Mom as I eat my breakfast. Pancakes with slices of bacon with a side of orange juice. "People don't do shit on the first day of school."
"You're a new student Rachael, take this opportunity to know your way around the school."
I groan in response. Oh shit, I didn't introduce myself.
I'm Rachael Josephine McCraken - Rachael, your Mom said that already- back off author, and I'm willing to repeat my name as many times as I want. If it annoys you, then great, I would say it more. ...suit yourself. Thank you, Author, I do suit myself.
My family recently moved from Minnesota to North Carolina when my Dad changed his job. It was a bummer because I ended up breaking up with my bad-girl girlfriend. It was a toxic relationship, but sex was hella good. She plays multiple instruments which means more magical fingers. Okay enough about my ex, it's not like we are going to meet her.
I gathered my plates into the sink and took my keys on the counter of the kitchen table.
"Where is Abigail, Mom?" I ask looking around the house trying to find my little sister.
"Abigail took the bus today because you woke up late, and your Dad has left to work already," Mom said. "By the way, Jacob is coming to visit this afternoon with his fiance."
"Yes!" I screech, my favorite brother is coming to visit. He's my only brother, but I can't wait to see him. "Okay! I'll come home early to see him."
"You better not skip any classes, young lady." Mom said from the kitchen.
Right now, I'm waiting in the office for the person who is going to show me around the school today. I scan my schedule for the 10th times as I wait for them.
Government & Politics
AP Calculus 2
Gym
AP Langauge Arts
French 4
AP Physics
Before you start saying I'm smart, or nerd. I'm not. I'm just a hard worker.
"Excuse me," said a feminine voice.
I look up to a green-eyed girl looking down at me, her brown hair is pulled back into a braid. French braid? Dutch braid? Spanish braid? Chinese braid? Japanese braid? I don't know, I don't know anything about hairs except they are just dead tissues.
"Are you Rachael?" She asks.
I nod, "You are?"
"I'm Hannah, I would be showing you around the school. Thank you for waiting for me," Hannah says. When people say along the lines, thank you for waiting for me, they are technically saying, sorry for making you wait.
"No, it's fine, later the better," I say. She looks at me confused and I roll my eyes, "What I mean is that I don't have to go to class."
"You do realize you're new, right?" Hannah says in amused. "You're willing to show up late on your first day?"
I shrug, "Sure, why not?"
"Okay, Newbie, I'm not going to let that happen," Hannah smirks. "You've got some confidence."
"What's wrong being confident?" I ask as I follow her out of the office. The office air is thick, it was like I was suffocating in there. In the hallway, the air is light and cooler - a lot better than the office.
She looks at my schedule and I watch her eyes went wide.
"Wow, you're smart," She says in amazement.
"It's called hard work."
"Newbie, you're a nerd?" Hannah teases me, well I think she is teasing.
"I got a name you know," I say.
"What was it again?" Hannah teases me, I roll my eyes at her. My eyeballs are gonna fall out of their eye socket one day.
"Rachael."
"Rachael?"
"Rachael Josephine McCraken," I groan.
"Josephine?"
"Ugh, just call me Rachael."
"But I like Josephine."
"You can either call me, Rachael or Rachael, and that's it."
Hannah chuckles, "Okay Josephine."
I glare at her and playfully slaps her, "Rachael, or Rachael."
"Okay, Rachael."
I hummed happily.
We walk in silence and earn a couple of glances from other students. Yes, guys, I'm the new student, but I'm still human. Unless, I'm Supergirl, but I can't be. I wake up like a monster in the morning.
"Okay, this hallway we are walking in right now is one of the main hallways. It's a three-story building school, we've got three gyms, two aquariums, and one big pool. I'll show you the school later, anyways, here is your first class. Government and Politics," Hannah says. She opens the door for me and left me with a small wave.
"Hello, are you Rachael?" asks the teacher.
I reply, "The one and only one."
The teacher chuckles at my response before saying, "Well then, the one and only one Rachael, you can take a seat in the back or the front. Where ever there are empty seats, I'm going to make the seating chart next week."
"Awe why seating charts?" I pout. "It's no fun."
"Just take your seat," says the teacher.
"I will... boring teacher," I said, but whisper the last part.
