Chapter 5 - The Governor

Hyun-sung looked at her concerningly, and asked, "War? What war?"

"A war that this city cannot avoid. The empire will utterly destroy this city." Said the woman. "Be prepared." The woman walked away with the kids scampering after her.

"What war was she talking about?" Hyun-sung thought. "I know no war in the 1020's." He looks around to look for another road, and explored mor of the city the city seemed a bit quiet, and empty. So he entered a restaurant, with a few people, as he was greeted by a kind man. The man gave Hyun-sung a seat as he asked, "What can I get you today? I can get you kimchi stew or tofu stew, or some grilled pork belly."

"I'll take some tofu stew and grilled pork belly please." Said Hyun-sung politely.

"The meal will be done shortly." The man ensured with a smile, and walked towards the kitchen.

I looked around the small restaurant; it had pictures of what looked like a king, and Korean history, and saw, a painting of a cloudy day, with men charging at each other with swords and spears, stabbing each other. This made Hyun-sung lose his appetite, however ate when the food arrived. The food tasted particularly more fresh and well made than in the 2000's tofu stew. The hot grilled pork belly was rather more tender and crispy than nowadays as well.

I was enjoying the food until I heard screams coming from outside the restaurant, and running. Then suddenly the entrance to the restaurant burst open, as two buff looking men with swords barged into the restaurant. I stood up in alarm as the two men unscathed their swords as the other customers screamed in shock. The worker seemed to be out of his daze cleared his through and spoke hesitantly, "W-welcome. How may I..."

Then one of the men stabbed the worker as the worker cried in agony, as the other man dealt with the customers.

He started walking towards a shabby man, who was frozen in fear. Hyun-sung was back to his senses as he picked up a chair, and threw it at the first man. The chair hit the man with a thud to the back, but the man seemed unhurt.

The man, took the bait, as he started to charge at him. Hyun-sung dodged precisely as he tripped the man with his foot. The other man, appearing out of nowhere swings his sword, narrowly missing Hyun-sung by a mere inch. Hyun-sung kicks him into a few tables, knocking him down, and dropping his sword. Hyun-sung drabs his sword and slits his throat.

The remaining man, back on his feet stands in defense, waiting for Hyun-sung to strike. But he didn't. He waited for the man to strike.

The man lost patience as he went for a vital strike, as Hyun-sung block with his sword, making a loud clang as the two swords collided with the impact. Hyun-sung slides his sword downward as it cuts the man on the stomach. Surprised by his movements, the man remarks, "You quite have skill in sword fighting. Maybe you should join my empire. The emperor would be very pleased."

"Thanks, but no thanks." Hyun-sung said. "I probably would have if you and your dead friend hadn't caused any trouble in this city, and talked kindly to me instead."

The man yelled in rage as he landed his final blow. Hyun-sung deflected it with all his might, as the man staggered away as Hyun-sung does a 360 spin as he slashes the man's torso, leaving him intact.

Hyun-sung was staring at the two men wondering why they would commit such a crime. He looked at the worker. He was wincing in pain as he staggered for some napkins. I ran to help as I looked for first aid in my pockets. I found a few bandages, and looked in the kitchen. There was a bottle of alcohol, and some herbs to use. I grabbed them both as I cleaned the menacing gash with the alcohol, and put some herbs on the wound, as I patched him up.

As I was finished I helped him up to get him to a hospital. Just as I was about to leave with the worker, the door opened. Into the restaurant came in a man dressed in red robes, with a gat, (a korean traditional hat 갓) with three bodyguards.

I stared at him, meanwhile the worker bowed down as low as he can go. He winced as he fell to his knees, as I tried to help him back up, as well as the bodyguards.

I then asked the robed man, "I don't mean to be rude, but, who are you?"

The man responded with a raspy voice and with a smile, "I am Cha Byeong-goo. Governor of the City of Wood.
