It has been a week since I left the dorm and everything was normal, except for Eric.
"You have been staring at me for a whole day. What do you want?"
"Just making use of this pair of eyes that was given to me at birth."
Use it on something else other than distracting me!
I moved to another table and he followed me. It was kind of awkward because we were in the school library and everyone was staring at us moving around. I felt annoyed by myself moving from table to table so I finally made up my mind and settled down at the seat beside the window.
Eric sat opposite of me and stared at me again. I thought I could just ignore him and he'll eventually lose interest in what he was doing but he just stared at until I was done with my homework, barely.
"What is your problem?!" I asked him when we left the library. He was walking behind me because I didn't allow him to be beside me.
"I thought you finally changed your hairstyle but turns out it was just temporary." He sulked while walking me to the gate. "Still beautiful though."
I heard him mumble something but it wasn't so clear. "Did you say something?" He shook his head and pointed at the car that was stopping in front of the gate.
Alice was already waiting for me in the car when I arrived. She got down when she saw Eric and thanked him for accompanying me out. Eric smiled back in response and Alice placed my bag in the car boot.
When I got into the car, I looked out the window and saw Eric texting on his phone. Not long after, I got a notification.
"I heard a new student is transferring into our class tomorrow. Lucky for you, she's a girl."
What is he implying? Not like I need to care about the gender of the new student as long as it doesn't affect my life.
"Oh, yeah? So I'm not lucky if he was a boy?" I recently started to not ignore him anymore and instead, I make the conversation longer to annoy him just like how he annoyed me in the past.
I did not receive a reply from him afterwards. He just read my text and never went online anymore.
Tsk. It's rare for me to reply to you and now you're not replying back? Fine.
Alice parked the car in the gate and opened the car doors. I got out of the car and retrieved my bag from the car boot before entering the house.
I went to my room and put down my things before checking my phone for a reply. He really gets on my nerves whether or not he texts me. He either texts me useless things or ignores me when I ask something.
It was a total mistake to be flattered by him!
After showering, I wrapped my hair in a clean towel and picked out clothes to wear from my wardrobe. I removed the towel on my head and blew my hair dry with a hair dryer before styling my hair.
"Hm… If I remembered correctly, Lily took a part of my hair and tied it up like this … then here … and here … there!"
I tried to imitate the way Lily tied my hair. It wasn't as good as how she did it for me but it was good enough. I thought of tying it to school everyday because it made me look prettier but, 'it took so long to do it.'
Sigh.
I guess I'll have to practice to get it done faster.
My sister came back earlier than usual today. She said her lecturer let them off earlier since their syllabus for the term was done. I talked to her in her room when she was done showering.
"So, you're saying that you like your fi- I mean, classmate?"
"How do you miss-say 'classmate' as something that starts with 'fi'?"
"Ah…. Don't worry about that. I had something else on my mind just now."
She seldom has anything on her mind that's why I chose to speak to her but is she busy? Maybe she has assignments to complete….
"So back to the topic. As you were saying, you like your classmate whose name is Eric?"
"Yes."
"And…. why are you telling me this?"
"You have a love interest, don't you? I thought you might know if my feelings are what they call 'love'."
My sister looked confused as of how I knew about that. She might have not realized how obvious she was when our phones got confiscated. She sighed and sat on her bed.
"Mine is nothing more than a mere crush. We're not lovers or anything. He doesn't even know my existence, I think."
I looked at her disappointed look, thinking of the reason she told me to find happiness. Will I end up like her if Eric does not notice my feelings? But Mia said he likes me…. No, her theory may be right sometimes, but we can't be sure about this.
"By the way, did you change your hairstyle?"
I was surprised she noticed something trivial. I checked my hair in the mirror to make sure it wasn't messed up.
"I learnt this from my roommate. Does it make me look more beautiful?"
"If you're talking about flattering that boy you like, I'm sure you'll be fine with any hairstyle."
"How is that so?"
"Well, judging from what you told me, no normal classmates would text you everyday like that."
Now that she mentioned it, it's true. Why didn't I realize it sooner?
I returned to my room and put my hair down. My wavy hair tends to be messy on rainy days but I would admit it's actually rather pretty on any other days.
'Maybe free hair suits me more.'
I wet my hair and scrunched it while letting it dry naturally. I remember reading somewhere online before that that's a way to make my hair not so messy. It took quite some time because I accidentally wet my hair too much.
When it was almost completely dry, my sister knocked on my door and told me it was dinner time. I went to the dining room as usual and ate with my mother and sister.
"Amanda, did you just come out of the shower?" Mother seemed to have noticed my wet hair.
"Ah, I, yes..." I can't possibly tell her that I was playing with my hair instead of studying or I'll be burned alive.
"Showering should always be the first thing you do once you return from school. Do you understand?"
"Yes, mother.
Woah. That scared me.
After dinner, I placed the dishes in the sink and went to my room. I was excited to see the results of my hair being dried in another way. I looked into the mirror and it was really effective!
"I'm going to use this method from tomorrow on-"
Ring!
A call at this hour?
I went to pick it up and it turned out to be Eric's goodnight call.
"You're acting weird today." He usually texts me but that wasn't the only reason I found him weird. He has been staring and following me all day today, like some stalker. Did he go back to 'stalker mode'?
"I was just wondering what accessories you normally wear."
Accessories? I never wore them to school but if it's hair accessories… "I wear those that suit my hair color."
"I wasn't asking for an answer but alright. Sleep well, goodnight."
"Oh, okay. Good-" He ended the call without me finishing my sentence. "How rude."
