Chereads / The First Artifact / Chapter 5 - In The Lead

Chapter 5 - In The Lead

It took a week. One whole week before anyone even got a common artifact. That brought the Artifact Wielder #77 in second place, with Alex ahead by three times the second place. Alex felt confused. Did he find something that got him in the lead? or are artifacts just that rare? Alex felt lucky for the first time in a long time.

During this week of time Alex found himself in a very peaceful state of mind. He and John would hang out and talk and discuss about the future everyday and on top of that he and Sarah tried to do there best to make sure I knew the city. It was a strange feeling being cared for. Alex didn't even know his name until the watch told him... It gave him a little bit of hope. Apparently John had contacted some friends and was trying to get records of his birth and his parents. Just that thought alone made Alex feel weird. So much has happened and it feels like it is just the beginning.

After the first week he had decided to try and practice some of the fire manipulation he got from his second necklace, The Histories Flames. It wasn't much and as a matter of fact he could only create and use about a candles worth of flame. So not much whatsoever. But the cool thing is that it didn't take any energy to do so. It was strange to Alex. Apparently this artifact is somewhat lesser in power than his moon pendant but his real artifact drained him so much. He had officially found out that his powers seem to be a lot stronger and easier to control during the night which was quite a good thing and a bad thing. It meant that it would be a struggle to use his powers during the day and only at night would they be at there max strength. He also hadn't found out the real meaning of the Moon Aspect Stat. It was just a mystery.

After the beginning of the second week John started going back to work, apparently he had been taking vacation days off so he could try to help readjust Alex to his new situation.

'Where am I supposed to find anymore artifacts? I've been looking for them for quite awhile but I haven't found anymore than the pendant. Something tells me that I need to be far stronger if I want to compete in this race for long.' Alex thought before going to bed.

He awoke the next day to a posting from the system.

Good Morning Artifact Wielders! This is the Council here and we are here to clarify this challenge a little bit more to help those who are struggling. We have placed artifacts all over the world. This means in every single continent and every island there is a chance for them to appear. There are even some under water! But starting off we only put 100 artifacts into the world, all around where your locations are. Every week after the first we will add more, making them more and more likely to be found. Though this will end at the end of this challenge meaning that at the end of this challenge there will be only 400 extra Artifacts around the world. Don't get upset though, because as we progress more and more artifacts will become accessible, think of what we are doing now as a beginners package, okay? Either way an artifact could be something new and freshly made or an ancient relic. They could be anything underneath the sun. We could have created the object or bestowed an already existing item with it's properties, either way they are every where. I hope this helps you on your hunt.

Also congratulations Artifact Wielder #7 and #77 for becoming the first two artifact wielders to be able to find artifacts.

Alex looked at the large message and slowly tried to decipher it. 'Hmmm any object. New or old. It felt like a riddle of sorts. I wonder if that means going to pawn shops and dumps would be a good idea? Or maybe even checking this house for one. I mean it is possible for something here to be an artifact, or for a matter of fact anything in any house could be one by there description. Even a chair could be one.'

Alex was thoroughly confused but still had a better understanding then he did before. Alex spent the entire day looking through the house to find something of worth to no avail, everything was ordinary. After a few more days and persuading he finally got Sarah to take him to a thrift shop. It was under the guise that he wanted them to buy everything for him cheap but was actually just a cover for him to take a look at the items for anything special. After 20 minutes of driving him and Sarah arrived at a small and nice looking antique shop. After entering he instantly popped on his ability and observed everything. After a few minutes he actually managed to find something. His luck was paying off.

It was a strange object. It was a small pair of shoes. Ones that would never fit him but as soon as he picked them up they quickly grew to a size that could easily be perceived as comfortable. They were bright yellow with green laces and looked odd but actually kinda cute. He picked them up and asked if Sarah would buy them for him and after a few minutes he got the notification that the shoes where his.

"Artifact Found.... Branding to user.... Common Artifact 'Street Racers' have been obtained."

Shortly after a short pop up appeared with the artifacts stat's.

-Artifacts-

'Histories Flame': Uncommon Artifact-(once a month ability still available)

'Street Racers': Common Artifact

These sneakers have the ability to increase ones passive movement speed by 10%. These sneakers have an ability called 'Street Side Rush' that allows the user to gain a 50% bonus to movement speed for 1 minute. This ability can be used once a day.

Alex looked at the artifact and felt content with it's abilities. If speed is key then these sneakers would help him. With his already fast movement speed he should be able to move quite freely with these bonuses. He quickly checked his watch and realized that the rankings had changed. It seemed that people are figuring out how to find artifacts. 5 people are now on the leader board. It now looked like this.

-LeaderBoard-

1: Artifact Wielder #7: 4 points

2: Artifact Wielder #77: 2 Points

3: Artifact Wielders #13,#42, and #69: 1 Points

It seems like people are catching up. 'I got two weeks to keep this lead and I really doubt I will get lucky enough to find another artifact in that time.' He just hoped that the other people would run out of luck. And after some time he actually realized that he was racing against people with similar powers to his own. And these were actual people from what he could tell. It looked like he would have to practice his skills in case any of them used force to get more artifacts.... He hoped it never came to that though.
