Chapter 3 - Travel

Athys looked on at the man who closed his ruck sack and put it back on. "T.. Thank you sir." Athys said as he shifted onto his feet from against the wall and collected the items on the ground. Wrapping them in the blanket and making a simple knot to tie it up. The older man and Luthia nodded and started to depart from the gruesome sight. Slumping back down, Athys peered into the darkness and pondered. "Have I always been so weak? Why did this have to happen to me? Why don't I feel anything?". Standing up, Athys slung the sack around his shoulder and walked up the hill to his house. Upon reaching the door he stopped and thought of how his mother always beckoned for him and his brother to come in for dinner. Athys opened the door and stepped inside, a dull warmth still seeped from the fireplace that was lit earlier that evening. Athys looked around his house as small memories played through his head, occasionally touching objects of sentimental value.

Finally, he walked up to his family portrait, under it was a small silver lined locket and a disfigured bundle behind it. Upon opening the locket was an inscription "2-27-34" and under it the initials of his parents. "FBN&MBL" Athys read out loud, closing the locket and lying it down before looking to the bundle. Picking it up, ut weighed more than he expected and was the size of his forearm. Walking over to his bed, he unravels it and lays it on the freshly made bed sheet. He lit a candle for a little more light before sitting on the bed next to the small pile and examining the contents. Firstly, a note that read "For you my eldest child, my small inheritance and a hopefully unneeded way to defend it. I love you and your little brother dearly.

Sincerely, Feldmid Belthi Natch". The second item being a small collection of silver coins, 14 in total, Athys pulled the sack closer and opened it, for a soon to be new item. Lastly, was a 7 inch push dagger with no cross guard and a twisting design, it came in a sheath which Athys looked at with confusion. The sheath held a belt loop, meant for a belt Athys simply didn't have and didn't want to think about looting anyone's body for. Setting the dagger and sheath back down, Athys stood up and rummaged through his mothers drawer before finding the family coin purse. Walking back to his bed he dropped his small collection of coins in for a sum total of 32 silver coins. He set it in the sack and tightly folded his sleeve before placing the sheathed push dagger into it, just out of sight and secure enough to not fall out while walking. Walking back to his mothers drawer he picked out his mothers cold weather overcoat and pants, before walking back and folding them neatly into the sack.

Picking up his mothers wooden pack frame he tied the sack shut and bound it to the pack via the straps. Slinging his pack over his shoulder and feeling content that he had what he needed, Athys walked towards the door. As he was about to step back out, Athys realized he still needed his other clothes.

A few moments later, after pondering what else he might need, Athys finally left with a few separate sets of his clothes and a few smaller jars of potted meat and a corked traveling sack filled with water. Walking down the village road, Athys looks back to the slaughter, remembering the event again fueled his drive to get revenge on the new king. So Athys set off on the main road to the town.
