Hundreds of things were running through my head. What would happen if we did kiss? What would happen between Jun and me? I felt like the alcohol was the only things keeping me in place. I felt frozen. The sound of the elevator doors opening was unmistakable. Within seconds mine and Yan's unfortunately timed moment was in full view to Jun. Yan quickly sat up straight as silence filled the room. I looked behind me, where Jun was standing, looking over to the both of us and the table in front of us.
"You're back." I smiled, but Jun's face slowly grew more and more red. He looked furious. I hadn't grasped why Jun looked so angry or why Yan had moved as further away from me as he could. My head was spinning, and I could hardly keep my eyes open.
"What are you doing here?!" Jun stormed towards Yan and quickly grabbed him by the collar, making him stand up from the couch. I felt my chest tighten instantly. I was mortified that Jun was just as mad at me as he was at Yan.
"I just came by to check on you." Yan quickly explained. I had never seen Jun so angry. "I hadn't realised you were taking in strays." Yan laughed, which only seemed to infuriate Jun. I was too drunk to care or even recognise what Yan had said. Jun quickly let go of Yan, before kicking Yan's feet under him and pushing him to the floor with full force. I felt my heart tremble at the sound of Yan hitting the floor. "Fuck you!" Yan got up to his feet and charged for Jun, wrestling Jun towards the wall, tipping the small table and making several glasses shatter onto the floor. I jumped at the sound of the impact and felt my heart sink into my stomach.
"No, stop!" I yelled out. Walking around the glass as my heart continued to tremble. I tried to get as close to them as I could, without getting hit. "Stop it!" I yelled again, trying to pull them apart. They were glued to each other, trying to overpower each other. Jun was taller and much stronger and quickly wrestled Yan to the floor, throwing his fist over his head, ready to hit Yan in the face. "No!" I yelled out, quickly grabbing his arm with my tiny hand. I wrapped both my hands around his arm, trying to stop him from hitting Yan. That seemed to be enough to get Jun's attention as he turned around to look at me. Tears had slowly began to collect in my eyes as fear had creeped in. He climbed off Yan, leaving him on the floor and placed his cold hand on the side of my cheek as my hands let go off his arm.
"It's okay. It's okay. I'm sorry." He said, looking down on me. His apologetic face calmed my racing heart. I nodded agreeing and he turned around and held his hand out to help Yan off the floor. "Get out." He said harshly to Yan and he quickly abided, picked up his blazer and making his way to the elevator. My heart was still racing, and the room was spinning out of control. "Are you okay?" He asked, as I stared off into the spinning room that seemed to merge into colours, until I couldn't recognise a single thing.
"The room is spinning." I said as I felt the floor collapsing underneath me.
"Hey, hey…" I heard Jun say as his arms wrapped around me and I felt his hand tapping me on my cheek. "Kai?" He called out to me and as my blurriness faded, I could see him perfectly. "How much did you drink?" He asked as he helped me balance myself.
"We found another bottle in your cupboard." I said with a chuckle.
"Jesus. Come on, it's bedtime." His fingers intertwined with mine as he guided me to my room.
Jun opened my bed covers as I climbed in. He pulled the covers over me and tucked one side tightly under me. I couldn't help but watch his worried face as he slowly sat down on the edge.
"You keep coming to my rescue." I smiled.
"I wouldn't have to if you learnt to take care of yourself properly." He snapped back. I felt a large stone roll down into my stomach. I looked away immediately embarrassed. "I'm sorry. I know it's not you. I just wouldn't have thought Yan would be the one putting you in danger." He leaned closer, caressing my hair with his hand.
"He came by to see you. I asked him to stay for a while. He wasn't trying to cause any trouble." I tried to defend Yan, but it seemed to further annoy Jun.
"He should know better than to let you drink so much." He insisted annoyed.
"He tried to kiss me." I laughed shaking my head. My eyes were getting heavier and heavier.
"Did you want him to?" Jun asked, moving his hand away from my hair. I looked up to his sad face and shook my head. I felt awful to have made Jun feel so sad.
"Do you like me?" I asked with a smile.
"What?" He asked surprised. His face instantly paled and he looked terrified.
"Yan said he had never seen you so interested in helping anybody." I looked up at his eyes, as he avoided looking at mine.
"You're drunk. Get some sleep." He quickly rose from my bed.
"Okay, okay, okay! You don't have to like me, just don't go!" I wrapped both my arms around his arm, pulling his arm to my chest and cuddling it like a soft toy.
Jun's P.O.V.
I sat back down on the edge of her bed as she cuddled up to my arm. I felt my heart sinking. Within a couple minutes, she was fast asleep. I couldn't help myself. I sat there for another 10 minutes, just watching her grip slowly loosen around my arm. She looked so peaceful. There was something about her that calmed my heart. As soon as she touched me, all the rage I held for Yan had evaporated.
"I do like you Miss Kai Jia Chen. If only you knew how much." I whispered as I gently pulled out my arm from under her. I leaned over and kissed her forehead, before leaving the room. I didn't waste my time with food, I was exhausted and after a quick shower, I collapsed in my bed.
I awoke still unable to get over Yan trying to kiss Kai and then calling her a stray. I could smell the breakfast being made in the kitchen. The smell seemed to have soaked everything in my room and it was the only thing calling me out of bed. I still had a couple days off work, before returning and so did Kai. Leaving her behind didn't seem like an option anymore, so I decided to forget about the fire for a couple days and try to spend some time with her. I got dressed and made my way down to the kitchen. I was only halfway down the staircase and I could see Kai and Yan both sitting at the kitchen counter. I felt instantly annoyed. I didn't want Yan anywhere near Kai, certainly not while they're alone.
"What are you doing here?" I walked straight to Yan infuriated.
"Please don't do this." Kai's meek voice said as she lifted her head from the counter. "I have a really bad headache and I just want some peace and quiet." She added on, before lying her head back down on the counter. I felt my chest tighten, but I felt the need to obey. I walked over to one of the cupboards and picked up a bottle with some Tylenol in it, handing it to Kai, before walking back over to Yan.
"Get out." I said firmly as he lifted his head annoyed.
"I already called mum." He said rolling his eyes and looking me dead in the face to see my expression. "She was thrilled to know you have a woman living with you." I could see Kai shaking her head, before taking a bowl of food from Mingyu and taking it to her room. I exhaled a deep breath, before swiftly pushing Yan off his chair with one hand and following after Kai.
