The dim flickering lights of the empty underground parking lot illuminated the figure of an exhausted middle aged man.
It was the usual business suit with a loosened striped tie with a grocery bag in one hand and a backpack in the other. Adam was coming back from a long day of work ready for a hot bath and a steaming hot 3 dish meal.
He bought 2 bunches of tomatoes a 12 pack box of eggs, some frozen shrimp, bell peppers, and some lettuce. Rather satisfied with his haul from the supermarket, he hummed a merry little tune, but little did he notice that a hooded figure quietly followed him from the shadows.
Recently, he joined a rather popular relaxation class at the recommendation of a friend. It had an strange meditation style that would cause him to feel like he entered a trance. While he did feel relaxed, he didn't really like the weirdness of losing control over his body so he planned to quit after the free trial period ended.
Not long afterwards, he would have these terrible dreams which served to firm his resolve in quitting and he was not the only person who did so. Before he quit, the class had fewer and fewer people attending.
Clearing his mind of these thoughts, Adam reached for the elevator button but all went dark. In the darkness, he fumbled around for his keychain flashlight but he never managed to find it as he collapsed the next moment.
A few seconds later, the power returned but Adam was nowhere to be seen. All that was left of where he used to stand was a bag of damaged groceries.
This harrowing scene was repeated across the city in different neighborhoods over the past 4 months. A steady stream of missing person reports alerted the authorities but nothing was changed as there was not a wisp nor shadow of the perpetrator.
Thankfully, such events would stop occurring because unfortunately, in a dark and abandoned warehouse, a ritual has begun. The missing people from the city could be seen gathered together around a very big hole. One by one, hooded figures took the unconscious people and stab them filling up the hole with red warm blood and a mountain of corpses.
Along with the filling blood pool, one hooded figure different from the rest, stood forward in his gilded robes and chanted. The sentences, by which we can only assume to be their scriptures, contained no strange sounds of syllables but a rather palpable mood manifested. Such a mysterious, gory, and chilling ritual continued until midnight when Adam, the last sacrifice, was killed.
This would be the end of Adam's story on Earth; your average salaryman at an average company with an average life and a not so average death. From here on, begins the story of Adam, a legendary figure rising from the ranks of the commoners to achieve greatness saving a world from death and destruction.
