Chapter 1 - The Cursed Princess

"Ma'am, I'm gonna need you to keep pushing." The doctor says, ducking his head underneath the cloth once more.

The Queen of Kenterra, a kingdom famous for its vast and beautiful ecosystem within their borders, is now giving birth to her future successor, whether boy or girl. She pushes with all her might. Her husband, the king, grips her hand tightly as she screams in pain. After a few moments, the crying of a baby is then heard ringing through the castle, and through the kingdom. The doctor holds up the baby, cutting its umbilical cord.

"Queen Santerya, King Desmond, say hello to your new baby girl." The doctor says, cleaning the baby and wrapping her in a blanket.

King Desmond takes the baby first, tears flooding down his cheeks, kissing the baby girl on her forehead. He hands off the baby to his Queen, who is also crying as she takes the baby.

"What should we call our little princess?" Queen Santerya asks through the tears.

"Aaron Desmond?" He asks jokingly.

"No silly." The Queen laughs in reply. "How about Arina? Like my mother." She says, rocking the baby back and forth, soothing her cries.

"Beautiful name, but your mother hates me." The King replies, this time only slightly smirking.

"I promise our Arina will not be as rude to you dear." Santerya says with a chuckle, holding the newly named princess high in the air. "Baby Arina..."

[1.5 Years Later]

As the wonderful king and queen take care of their child, they often wonder what her power could be. Santerya's power is putting up a shielding dome, whereas Desmond's is self regeneration. They know that Arina will not necessarily inherit their powers, but they know that it should be defensive, given most of their blood line's constant defense-based powers. One thing they often note is that when Arina is crying, weird things occur, such as Arina seeming to teleport, or things somehow eroding around them. One night in particular, as Santerya was breastfeeding Arina, she noticed that her arms started to wrinkle as she was holding her. Becoming scared when she saw her hair was turning grey, she placed Arina back in her crib and went to see a healer. When the healer told her that there was nothing she could do, and the local seer saying that a bad omen was forming around the kingdom, the king and queen made a decision that would not only change their lives, but the lives of everyone that Arina would be around: They put her into a small basket and floated her down the river. As she floated, her cries accompanied the erosion of the basket she was in, the wood and cloth molding and decaying suddenly as she washed out of sight.

That evening, a few children who lived in The Pit, a small valley on the boarder of the castle's territory and the place where the poorest of peasants lived, saw baby Arina in nothing but the clothes on her back, the river seemingly getting dirtier as she floated down, her cries unnerving the children. The kids ran away, but an adult came by later on his way to take a small fishing trip. The man saw Arina washed ashore, now asleep with the river's small waves crashing into her. The man picked her up, a tattered note falling from her clothes and into his hands, which had her name written on it. He took her to his home, and after arguing with his wife, Arina was now adopted into the house of the fisherman who saved her.

[15 Years Later]

Arina grew up in a wonderful home, though none the wiser of her previous life. She always new she was different, however, because all the adults had a seemingly anxious expression on their face any time they told her not to do something or argued with her. She was always obedient, so she was slightly confused as to this, but she didnt care too much about it. She enjoyed her life and loved helping the people around her, doing what she could to even slightly pay back the people for their hospitality of her. The joy didn't last though, because soon after her 17th birthday, The Pit was raided by factionless bandits. She and a handful of other people she grew up with were taken hostage and sold as slaves. Separated from all she knew, she cried herself to sleep every waking moment. Arina could feel her chains loosen minute by minute, but she was too afraid to try to tug on them, for fear of being caught and beaten like had happened to those who came before her.

Exactly 28 days after she was bought, she heard sounds of metal clashing and almost demonic noises coming from outside her cell. Men shouted and cried their last breath as a thunderous step was taken after each man was slaughtered. Outside her cell, she saw a man clad in black knight armor with a large two-handed broadsword his his right hand. He looked over at her, his helmet shielding whatever expression he may make, and with a lightning quick movement, he slices the corroded bars in half. The knight moves in to break her from her chains, but Arina only slightly tugs on them and they shatter in an instant, leaving a slight rust colored dust where they once connected to the wall. Surprised, the knight sheaths his sword on to his back, kneeling down and taking off his helmet. He appears to be the same age as Arina, though with his many scars could pass him for a much older man. He glances around the cell for a moment, noticing that the walls are in extreme disrepair, unlike any previous cell he's looked at so far.

"Hey, how's about we get out of here? My bounty is already fulfilled." The knight says, waiting for her response.

It takes a long moment for Arina to respond. She struggles to find her voice after going a month without talking and only sobbing.

"Thank you." She finally says, hugging the knight.

The man stands up and carries her outside her old master's encampment, now ruined with fire and blood, bodies filling the area like flowers in a field.

"My name is Uriah. What's yours?" He asks, his long brown hair flowing in the wind, occasionally covering his piercing yellow eyes.

"I'm Arina." She simply replies, her voice cracking through it.

"Huh, like the last queen. What a beautiful name. Well Arina, I can take you back to a village nearby and drop you off there-" "No." Arina cuts off Uriah.

"Please let me go with you." She begs.

"The world is a pretty dangerous place. Humans are the least of your worries. The world is filled with goblins and direwolves just waiting to corner a girl like you. I won't let you die like that." He chuckles, though seriousness ringing through his voice.

"How can you protect me like that if you don't keep an eye on me at all times?" Arina asks, her voice now smooth enough to charm any man.

"Shut up. You make too good of an argument." He chuckles, making his way to a main road.

From this point on, these two would become inseparable, and their love for one another would make any foe tremble before them... or so they thought.
