Chapter 7 - History: A Second Invasion

Lonn stood on the edge of a cliff while staring down into a deep canyon. At the bottom of the canyon a hulking monster gathered its bearings. It stood around nine feet tall and was almost humorously wide at the shoulders. It was generally shaped like a human, but its arms were too long. Thick hair covered its body and horns emerged from its head. It wore loose clothes made out of a foreign substance. Behind the beast a gaping hole, that seemed to be torn in the fabric of the world, slid closed.

Five people were arrayed behind Lonn and were waiting quietly for him to begin. They were a mix matched group. Igor was a squat man with white hair. Tiffany was a pretty girl that looked to be around twelve, until you looked at her eyes and realized that she could not be a child. Glen was a tall, handsome man with blond hair. He wore armor that had been stained a royal red and had an eagle engraved into it. Serana was a woman that appeared to be in her early thirties. She wore a long purple dress and power seemed to radiate from her. The last was Mara who had windswept hair and stared at Lonn with infatuated eyes.

"Mara, how many villages are around here?" Lonn finally spoke without looking away from the monster.

"Three villages and the closest is at the far end of the canyon. You will want to direct the battle towards where we are currently standing." Mara replied in a breathless voice as she blushed at Lonn's attention.

"Igor and Tiffany, you will go to the closest village. Leave now." The two warriors nodded. Tiffany lifted both of them on a slab of earth, and they shot towards that village. As they left Lonn continued speaking.

"Glen take Serana with you and go to the farthest village. Mara you need to head towards the third village. Remain high enough that you can watch the battle. If it turns towards either of the other villages, you will reinforce it." Glen and Serana nodded at Lonn's instructions. Glen stripped his armor off in a flash and placed it into a large burlap sack. He was now naked, but none of the people present look twice. As soon as he finished packing his equipment into the sack his body twisted and assumed the form of a giant eagle. Serana jumped on his back and Glen took off while holding the burlap sack in his claws. Mara hesitated instead of joining the others in taking their positions.

"Lonn be careful." Mara begged quietly while her face remained flushed.

"Your infatuation with me distracts both of us from our purpose. Go Mara, we will discuss your immaturity after this fight." Lonn replied with frustration.

Mara's face tried to grow even redder and she suddenly felt an overwhelming desire to take her position. Mara turned away from Lonn in embarrassment, and after a moment brilliant wings of lightning formed behind her. They flapped once and she launched into the sky. They propelled her so quickly that a resounding crack sounded across the canyon. The monster at the bottom of the canyon followed her with its eyes. It tensed its legs to follow her, but as she left Lonn stepped off the cliff.

He plunged down and crashed into the earth like a meteor. The noise of the crash drew the beast's attention and it smiled upon seeing Lonn. Relative to the beast, Lonn appeared small and helpless. It spoke to Lonn in a foreign language. The beast paused for a moment to let Lonn respond, and when he remained silent it spoke again before laughing. Lonn ignored the antics of the beast and began to walk towards it. It stood tall and crossed its arms as it watched Lonn slowly approach. Fury and hate stood on its face, but it restrained its emotion. It spoke again and stamped its foot.

Growing bored it examined its surroundings carefully. It did not want any surprises during the fight, and it knew that there was competition somewhere on this planet. While it was examining its surroundings, it saw something in the earth that was odd. After it looked closer the beast seemed confused. It sent examined the anomaly carefully before horror crept across its face.

"Yes, that's your friend down there. Don't worry you will be down there too." Lonn smiled at the now terrified beast.
