Chapter 3 - Chapter 3

Lights flashed: red, blue green, red, blue, green. On and on like Christmas lights, getting brighter by the second; not like anyone realised. The clumps of bodies distracted them as the music getting louder and louder. The fusion of sweat, alcohol and must clogged the air as strange bodies flowed past one another, bumping, humping, grinding and twerking up on each other. Jumping up and down to the beats the DJ laid – B2K's 'Bump, Bump, Bump', letting down their hair whiles other drunk. They drunk their sorrows away, they drunk their troubles away, they drink in celebration and some, just because they wanted to and because it was a Friday Night.

Opposite the club, a woman cladded in red accompanied by a couple of men in black shielded her as they moved around the messy dance floor to a secluded part of the club. Walking through the curtains, the men moved aside whiles the woman briefly looked at her phone then proceeded towards the usher, whispering something to him. He smiled at her then directed her towards a room.

"I completely disagree" a screech heard immediately after her arrival into the room, followed by other shouts.

In the room was a booth occupied by a woman – who looked as though she was in her mid-20's- and two men – who looked equally as young.

"Why y'all always loud tho?" the woman in red spoke.

"Ekua is that you?", the woman screamed as she shot up and runed toward the woman.

"Toni Toni, how far?" Ekua (Aithne) replied as she attempted to stabilised herself with another human attached to her waist.

"It dey be oh!" Toni responded as she let go off Ekua and dragged her to the table.

"Emmanuel, long time no see!" Aithne (Ekua) greeted the man in the white shirt with a hug.

"Yeah! How have you been?" Emmanuel asked returning the hug.

"So, and so!" Ekua replied.

She walked up to the second man before smacking him on the head.

"So, you are not going to greet me?", she mocked, "Is this how you treat your elders?"

"What elders? Are you not younger than me?" he snorted.

"Obei, am I not mentally older than you?"

"You wish!" Kwame annoyingly retort as he got up to hug her.

"Okay, where is Kojo and Mariama?" Ekua asked as she got settled in.

"Mariama has a business meeting out of state but as for Kojo, only God knows." Kwame (Mariama's Husband) sighed.

"Did he not plan this thought?" Ekua inquired.

"You know him, never on time.", Toni replied, "I called Kevin (Kojo's assistant), he said they are almost here."

"This boy will never learn, my God!!"

"Speak of the devil!!", Ekua sighed as the door opened once more.

In entered a loud, clearly drunk 6'0-foot man, unable to walk in a straight line, with sunglasses on dressed in a black shirt and black bottoms.

"Why y'all ALWAYS earllllllllyyyyyy?" Kojo slurped as he headed towards the table or so he thought.

"Honestly, I don't know at this point" Toni groaned

"Boiiii, you alright?" Ekua asked, as she mad her way toward the stumbling figure, "Why invite us to drink if you already drunk?"

"I'm not drunk, I'm just *hiccup* tired."

She groaned before helping him settle down.

"We ain't leaving till dawnnn." He slurped, rising his glass for a toast.

"9:00." Ekua said as she raised her glass," Michael is still at Atlanta and I left my angel with Dave."

"10:00." Kwame uttered as he joined the toast, "Rebekah didn't feel well so she stayed home with the kids."

"10:30!" Mariama said, everyone turned their head towards her and Michael.

"Why? Your husband is sitting right next to ya." Kojo said

"Okay and..." She said as she gulped her drink.

2 hours later…

"I'm so lonely!" Kojo slurped.

"Good for you!" Toni replied as everyone stared at her. She shrugged her shoulders, clearly not bothered while she drunk her drink.

"What I mean is you deserve it", Toni added.

Knowing where the conversation was going, the other all picked up their drinks, downing it as though they were shots.

"Will you ever get over that!", Kojo groaned.

"Nah. I'm good."

"C'mon Ekua, can't you set me up with some of your friends."

"Not of she doesn't want to cut them off." Toni smirked as they others giggled.

"Oga, I don't know any single ladies." Ekua responded, diverting her eyes from Kojo and hiding her smirk behind her glass.

"Cap" someone coughed.

"C'mon, what about the accountant, the divorcee from Atlanta?" Kojo inquired.

"You mean the single mother of 2 who needs a STABLE, RELIABLE, SMART MAN." Toni expressed, dragging the last word on.

"God forbid I set Leyla with a D.B.N!" said Ekua.

"I'm actually offended.", Kojo said," What does D.B.N even mean?"

Ekua quickly ordered another drink, took a sip then explain.

"D.B.N means a Dumb, Broke-

"NEGRO!!!" Toni shouted.

"First of all, I'm not dumb, I went to Har-

"We ain't talking educational wise, you dumb when it comes life and anything emotional. And honestly I'm not drunk enough to start stating examples." Ekua said as she took a large mouthful.

"But I ain't broke." Kojo whined.

"You are.", Toni said, "You don't have a single piece of common sense."

"That and you ain't in the emotional place to give her your all." Ekua added, Toni nodding along with her.
