In the Queen of Hearts' personal chambers, she was to be found with a person who was not her husband and neither her own Knight. An incident like this was akin to a scandal. It would have been enough to destroy an already problematic reputation that the Queen of Hearts already had.
And yet it never crossed her mind.
Instead, the sensation in her chest was tight as she tried to find the right words to say to the man that once helped Alice bring about her downfall. The two of them spoke to each other at the same time.
It was almost silly, even as the man apologized.
"No, it's fine. We've already addressed one another and there is not much need for rank between friends," Rosalyn Lockhart said. She had never thought she'd say something like this, but at the moment, somehow it felt both appropriate and callous.
"Ah, yes, friends." Nicholas Hatter agreed.
