Chapter 91 - A little Talk

I got to the strategist's room to ask where the doctor was. 3 bangs on the door and it opened. The strategist was looking down on his table.

"Need to talk to the doctor?" He asked.

"Yeah, where is he?"

"He's at the rooftop." He answered. I thanked him and went back to the elevator, the door closing behind me.

Inside the elevator, i headed up. I thought of the things i should talk to him about, from the news i saw to the healing feeling faster than normal.

The doors open wide, a cloudy day as the sun's beam was obscured by the clouds. The doctor was standing alone by himself, leaning on the railing. His back turned.

I approached from behind him, i can feel the heat replace the cold i once felt indoors. As i was halfway towards him, he turned around.

"Damon, i heard your team was sent to the clinic. What about you?" He asked.

"By the time i got there, my wounds were almost gone, i just had bloodied bandages wrapped around my arms and legs, but there was little to no signs of wounds."

"How much wounds did you sustain in the mission?" I attempted to recount the wounds i got from the mission, from the explosion to the truck chase.

"I got hit by an explosion, shrapnel got me, then i got shot multiple times in the arms and legs. But the armor saved my chest and head. During the trip back my wounds began healing. Then once i got to the clinic i no longer had any." He nodded as i explained the events.

"When i studied that last mercenary, during times he sustained a severe amount of wounds his energy normally drains faster. Probably the virus needing more energy from the body to replicate and heal back the wounds." He explained.

"That hostage you brought back yielded more information on insurgent cells." He continued. My mind immediately remembered the news report.

"About what you said before, you said that the intel saved more. But a news report on the war against them only said that this war will keep going on. Did...Did we really change anything with the war?" I asked.

"We did change the war, the intel you provided ceased or heavily limited any reports of people getting forcefully recruited. During the revolution, hundreds to thousands of independent groups spawned along with the one that formed our alliance today. The intel we took has taken out hundreds, it's a slow process, but i can assure you. That intel truly did save many lives around the alliance. Now it's up to the military and clients who hired our mercenaries to fight these insurgents. Our war with the insurgents indeed will take a long time, but again. That hostage and the intel that you brought just saved months or years of warfare on every part of the alliance, and save so much more lives than expected."

The doctor pulled out a folder, handing it to me. Inside was a paper with a picture of a virus, one with arrows pointed at different parts of it.

"Along with the spy agency, i performed a small research, mainly on the mercenary of before and the ability to see through others. Only works for people with the virus, but i thought of designing a false virus of sorts." The doctor explained. After looking at the virus on the paper for some time, i handed the folder back.

"With the information at hand, i'm still researching how to make it work efficiently. Once it works we can attempt to perform a test run with it, which is another reason why we ordered you to bring back the hostage, to be the one we can use for the experiment. If this works correctly we can uncover more on the surviving insurgent groups, we'll bring this war closer to it's end." He added.

The doctor looked at the watch on his wrist, looking at it for a short second, he moved away from the railing, starting to walk towards the elevator.

"I need to head back now, goodbye Damon." He slowly began walking faster towards the elevator.

I turned back to the city, leaning towards the railing, thinking of what the doctor said to me. Fake virus, the energy drain. So we did really help them, just not what i was thinking. The city was bustling, sound of cars moving by and people down below walking around. The fake virus caught my attention. From looking through other mercenaries to seeing through random people. Wonder will it be the same? Or will it be less effective, i wondered. The heat felt comfortable after staying in the cold academy for some time.

It was only me on the rooftop, no transport ship flying above nor others looking at the view.

A peaceful sight, slowly my mind relaxed further by viewing the city. From tall buildings to passersby. A place to unwind, like the library. I've done everything i could for today, my teammates are resting and i've done multiple tasks. I think it's best to have a nap like them.

I left the peaceful rooftop and went to the elevator, going down to rest in my room.

Through the door and hallway i went, finished with what can be done today.

Inside the quarters, there was nobody there. Probably still sleeping, past it and into my room, i sat down onto my bed. Preparing to rest for now. I lied down, shutting my eyes for now. My tasks and chores were now finished, my teammates, already patched up except Sebastian, and i talked with the doctor. Hope Sebastian is ok though.

Fake virus, will it really work? By the time it's made, i'll probably start looking through insurgents in their hideouts, i laughed. Wonder how they'll even give the virus to the insurgents. But it's best to think later. With my mind at ease prepared for sleep, it was time to slip into slumber
