Waking up with a splitting headache, Bella looked around her to take in her environment.
'Didn't I die? What's happening here?!' Seeing the bright sunlight shining in through the big open windows and feeling the soft sheets on her skin, Bella entered a state of panic.
Hurrying to get up, Bella didnt realise her left hand was hooked up to an IV drip and an EKG. Just at that moment the doors to the room she she was in opened and a lady in a nurse's uniform came in.
"Oh Mrs Dixon, Don't try to do that. Please lie down."
Rushing up to her, the nurse eased her back on the bed. It was at that moment she realised how weak she really was and that the distance she thought she traveled wasn't even a foot off the bed.
She opened her mouth wanting to speak only to realise how dry her throat really is. No sound came out. The nurse seeing this reached out to the bedside table, uncovered the glass of water and placed the straw to her mouth. Her lips automatically started sucking. Gulping down the water in just a few sips. The nurse in the meantime pressed the buzzer that was connected to the medical set up.
The doors opened again and two men came in. One young, one old. One in a light blue dress shirt and black jeans, one in a doctor's coat. Looking at the handsome young man with curly dark hairs and an olive skin tone, Bella stared in his green eyes as he hurriedly walked towards her. Memories began pouring in. Memories that weren't hers. A visible frown appeared on her face. At this moment the young man reached her side, seeing the frown he couldn't help but worry.
"Bella, are you alright? Where hurts? Are you tired? Let the doctor check on you first." A deep velvety voice entered her ears and she couldn't help but frown a bit more.
The old doctor at this point already had his stethoscope ready as he placed it on her chest, listening to her heartbeat as well as her breathing. Getting a flashlight he pointed it in her eyes ensuring everything was fine.
"Mrs Dixon, is there any pain? Tiredness? " Bella nodded her head to his question asked in this antique like voice and pointed to her head to indicate where hurts. "I will be prescribing a pain tablet to you for use if the headache doesn't go away. As for the tiredness, that is natural. There hasn't been any movement of the muscles for more than two years. I'd be surprised if you were energetic. For that I will recommend a friend of mine that specializes in physical therapy and rehabilitation. She will be able to get you on your feet in no time. In the meantime, eat well, rest up and get some sunlight and fresh air."
"Thank you Doctor. You have no idea what this means to me." The young man was the one to reply. Taking note of what the doctor recommended.
"Just doing my job Mr Dixon. No need to thank me. Here's the prescription for the pain pills. Call me if I'm needed. Good bye."
With that, both the doctor and the young blonde nurse went on their way, leaving only the two in the room.
Bella couldn't help but stare intensely at the man that should be her husband based on her memories. Jason Dixon. Handsome, wealthy and respectful. The ideal man for most girls. Except the girl he married. Bella Rose. A lady of an equally wealthy family. Placed in an arranged marriage, she couldn't have hoped for anything worse. Except something worse did happen. She met in an accident and apparently was in a coma for more than two years. And now her body was taken over by someone else. Such an ending.
Reaching out his hand, Jason wanted to caress her face but then remembered she didn't like him touching her. Him holding her hands impulsively before was already the most he could do. He only stared at her.
"If there's anything you need, you can always call out to me. I'll have someone bring the food up to you." He turned to walk away, when he was only a meter from the door he heard a hoarse cracked voice.
"How long exactly have I been out?" Turning to face her, he stared at Bella with a complicated gaze.
"Almost three years. Two years, nine months and twenty eight days."
"Is that so...."
"Yes. You look lost Bella. Did you lose something?"
Staring at Jason deeply she whispered out loud, "I lost everything."
