As I began to fan away from the smoke and dust that obscures my visage, I hurried myself to aid Mr. Tango. He was nowhere in sight.
As I exited the car, I began to assist all of the people around me who needs medical attention by helping them to get back up on their feet. I felt that it was the right course of action to boost the name of the Curtains household.
I lied to myself.
I tried to activate my cellphone. To my dismay, it ceased to activate itself from its slumber. I wasn't the only fool in the bunch, others as well. All of their electronic devices ceased to function.
I chimed with my inner voice, "a goddamn EMP blast."
During all the commotion, the city began to be engulfed by the screams of panicking civilians. Everywhere, it filled the atmosphere of Vanthene. I could feel the shroud of negative emotions began to swallow the light and hope of the city to asunder.
Slowly, I, began to panic when the thought of the safety of my family passed my mind. Are the affected?!
Are they safe? What if they get caught in this chaos as well? Can they fend off for themselves?! What if they can't? Countless of fears and doubts began to cross my mind in a flash.
I am trapped in an endless loop of nightmares.
As I began to lose myself, I grabbed my trump card. The power that can save Vanthene, and most importantly, my family. I will not lose my family members. Not again. Not ever.
I began to channel every ounce of my energy into a singular point of release. Unwinding the shackles of fate, I call out for the power of a God, through prayers.
As I am about to unbind the last seal, my inner voice stopped me.
It grabbed hold of my hand. Much to my anger, it began to bind again the energy channeled. It explained to me that now is not the right time. It also advised not to let my negative emotions to get the better of me.
Continuing, it explained that my family would be fine. As long as I still have this power, nobody would be stained by evil.
Slowly but surely, I began to recollect myself. The pulse of my heartbeat began to stabilize. It is a sign of relief and tranquility. My inner voice began to take further initiative by hugging me tightly, reassuring everything will be alright.
Convinced, I put away our trump card. It would be careless of me if I use it too early, revealing my alter ego. What happens if the city finds out that the identity of Midknight Breaker is Peter Curtains? A mundane teenage boy who rocks Physics to a tee. That would be world-shattering.
Enough being emotional, as a detective slash hero, I need to study my surroundings, like an owl's eye. To save the day, I need to be attentive to the surrounding objects. My teacher once said that everything in this universe is a tool that can be used differently. As an aspiring scientist, I intend to follow such wise advice to mold this world into a paradise.
Being a scientist, also have its disadvantages. Scientific advancement requires us to take risks. Without risks, this world wouldn't spin around another second. Being a hero, no, a normal human also requires us to take risks to advance ourselves to the horizons of the future.
"Enough monologing, take actions please!", roared my inner voice.
As I look up the chaotic cityscape, I noticed that a lot of helicopters began to surround the area. I was happy that assistance finally arrived to tend the wounded and traumatized.
As the helicopters landed, men in black tactical outfit began to swarm the area. I guessed it was just some kind of a procedure they have to follow. A bit aggressive but okay. Beggars can't be pickers after all. Assistance is assistance after all.
The men in black began to wrap a peculiar device around the wrist of citizens, ranging from toddlers to elders alike. Keeping tabs on their well being is a key, in my opinion after all. I began to breathe a sigh of relief as one of the men began to insert the device around my wrist.
Finally, I am saved. I can finally make my family worry not for my wellbeing. Nothing can go wrong.
Well, except for the vanishing of Mr. Tango. I hope he is somewhere safe and sound. He probably went out to call out for help after all, right? He is my bodyguard after all.
Our butler. He will not allow any harm to fall on me, right?
Right? He swore to protect me, isn't that right?
I am pretty sure as I close my eyes and lay myself to rest, the next thing that will happen will be me waking up on a soft and comfy hospital bed.
My little sisters will wait for my awakening, so as my parents and grandmother. They will welcome me with open arms. Indeed they will.
As the device strapped around my wrist began to inject some kind of anesthetic into my veins, my eyes began to increase in weight, not realistically, though it felt like it did.
Let gravity do its job. Newton couldn't be wrong about that.
State of unconsciousness awaits me.
Little did I know, only horrors of the darkness awaits me.
