[•Nuri's POV•]
Early morning I left the house.
Last night, Ezgi had sent the address and I was very excited to go to that place. After saying bye to the others, I hired a cab and after explaining the address to the place, he began driving. I was peeping out of the window. I could go to the house with a bus after I was familiar with the routes and then take a bus again and go to the university, and calmly walk back home.
The cab came to a stop at the entrance of a secluded door, more like a metal gate. I slowly got outside paying the fare. It was on a slope but the house seemed to be on top of the walls and the gate. I pushed open the gate to reach a tiny courtyard, towards my left, I found a narrow sloping path, god knows where that leads.
There was a door right in front of me, probably the house was also small. "Who's there?" Came a voice, I swiftly turned to my right to find a security guard resting under a thick tree, I was surprised to see him. "Who are you?" He asked again, "Uh... I'm Nuri... Miss Nazmiya called me here" I said, "Oh yes, she is expecting you, go on up" and he opened the door for me. There were stairs inside, Uh! This house is so tiring, the owner might be the same.
When I reached the top, I couldn't breathe, It was like a palace. There was a pool, a long table next to it, a pair of outdoor sofa's and in front of me, lay the breathtaking view of the house. I thought that Fatoş's house was the most beautiful so far but this house was just... Unbelievable.
I was staring at that dream house 'til I averted my gaze to the lady sitting on the sofa. I headed towards her, she looked up from her specs. "Welcome Nuri, Thankyou so much for doing this" she said, and I shook her hand "The pleasure's mine" I said and smiled.
She was a short woman probably in her late fifties. "So, let's get into business right away as I have a meeting in half an hour" she said and handed me a set of pinned papers. "This is the agreement which states all the terms of the job, as I said yesterday. You just have to sign here and the job is yours" "I am just gonna be the chef right?" I asked judging from the pages, she laughed. "Ferit bey prefers doing things professionally. Everything has been clearly described in it, the time you have to come, what to cook, etc" she said.
I finished signing the papers and she handed me a copy of it "Let me show you the kitchen, come on" and she signaled me to follow her. The kitchen could be directly accessed from the front yard just like the living room. The house was so good, so big and luxurious. The architecture was just superb. "Nuri, Ezgi told me you were very talented. I am very happy you agreed to work, thank you so much dear" and she tapped on my shoulder. "That's alright ma'am" I said and smiled.
"Okay then, I'll just sum up the important details in the agreement. The jars and cups are at the bottom shelves. The spoons and knives are here in the middle drawers and the flour and grains are at the top cupboards behind you" she said pointing to each one of them, I nodded. "So when do I start cooking?" I asked, "Well Nuri, the interview isn't yet complete. Ferit bey will have lunch at home today, so you can cook something good. If he likes it, then you will get to stay longer" she replied, "Uh... I have a doubt, Is the boss's name 'Ferit Bey'? Just like that?" "His name is Ferit Aras, but you know we call him Ferit bey. 'Bey' stands for 'Mr.' In Turkish" She said, "Oh..." "But Nuri, he is kinda strict you see. So he doesn't like his workers going around his house much, but if you need to use the restroom, it's right there or if you are comfortable using the front door, just go down the stairs there" she said pointing to the staircase across the hallway.
"This is actually a small room, with a toilet and a cupboard. If you want to change your clothes before working, you can do it there. The cleaner lady keeps the things in the cupboard" I nodded.
"So that's about it. I wish you good luck dear" she said and shook my hand. "I will tell you tomorrow whether you got the job or not. Most of them don't last long but I am sure you will" she said, "Wait a minute, what do you mean by 'they don't last long'?" "As I told you, Ferit bey is a strict person, so if you don't meet his standards then you might get fired, but don't worry about it, just do your best. I trust you, okay? Be calm. Then I have to leave now, good luck. See you soon dear!" "Thank you!" I called after her. I kept my bag on the kitchen table and leaned over thinking "What am I gonna make?" I asked myself.
There seemed to be no one around so first I could do a bit of exploring... after all rules were meant to be broken! Moreover, I don't think Ferit bey will mind if I just took a tiny peek at his house. The corridor was long and the staircase even went up. The living room was big and had a smart TV and two dark sofas in front of it. Ferit bey seemed to love comfort and 'grey'
There was an abstract painting on the wall near the TV. I headed to the opposite room. It was actually a playroom with a pool table and then there were shelves all around. Inside them, I could see various sporty stuff, a wooden baseball bat and ball, a basketball, and even a football. Various cuesticks we're also kept in a frame.
That room bored me, the room opposite to it was a small bedroom. I pushed open the door to first glance at the lamp next to the bed. It had the shape of Pasta. Pasta! That's it! I went back to the kitchen and searched the cupboards for Pasta.
I found everything I wanted and started cooking. I did a cheese drizzle on top of the pasta with some powdered black pepper. It smelled really good. I also made my special sauce with tomatoes and onions. It all smelled pretty great and then when I glanced at my watch, more than two hours had passed. I still had time to spare, so I made two glasses of lemon juice, one for the boss and one for me.
I kept the lemon juice and the sauce in the refrigerator and took my own glass and went to the living room. There was a shelf close to the wall, there were various DVDs, stacked neatly. I realized that all of them were really great movies for a younger audience. A few of them were classics. Most of them were English movies and I even found a few foreign ones though Turkish ones were scarce. I remember reading about a few of them and among them, I have watched 'Jumanji', 'Eight below', 'Spirited away' and 'Life of pi' Well I was glad to see a half Indian film among them.
I observed a bit more till I noticed the dark clouds in the sky, it was gonna rain soon. I went to the kitchen and took my bag. I left my apron in 'my' room and as I grabbed my bag to leave, I remembered something. The sauce and the juice were in the fridge, what if he didn't know that?
I kept my bag back on the table and searched inside for a pen and my notepad. I took off the pen's cap and started writing:
The Pasta is in the microwave. It will be even tastier with the tomato sauce in the fridge, there's also lemon juice.
Enjoy your meal!
With Love,
Nuri
Ps: I really want the job so I hope you like my food.
I tore the page and kept it under the jug of water then grabbed my bag to leave. God knows if he will read it.
