As Skylar continued to wander the halls she finally found a teacher. He looked like he was somewhere between his late twenties and early thirties.
Her eyes gleamed with hope and her pace increased. She headed straight for him.
"Excuse me sir" she called out to him when he turned to walk into his classroom after he was done with the student he was talking to.
The man looked back in her direction and she almost ran to meet him. He had really dark hair and his eyes were also dark. He looked gentle and easy going.
"Sir, please I need to pick up my class schedule. I'm new here. Could you help me?" she asked staring at him.
"Well you're welcome to Oaksfield. You need to go to the registry to pick that up. You go down the hall and take a left turn. It should be the third door on your right. I suggest you hurry classes are about to start" he said smiling at her. It made him look angelic. His smile travelled all the way to his eyes making them seem like they weren't so dark.
She thanked him and hurried in the direction she was told. As she took the turn to her left, she bumped into someone.
She immediately flew into a frenzy of apologies as she bent to pick up the books she had dropped. Over her head she heard the person mutter something.
She stood to her feet and examined the person before her. He was good looking and much taller than her. He was well built with with broad shoulders and he towered over her.
"Pardon me. I didn't see where I was going I was in a hurry" she apologised formally.
The person before her just shrugged and slipped his hands into his pockets. He started to walk past her when she heard him say "whatever"
Finding his answer offensive she said out loud "Ah, some people are just naturally arrogant" she said before continuing on her way.
As she walked, she replayed what had just happened in her head. Yes she was at fault, but who did he think he was. Everyone makes mistakes every now and then. She looked back and caught a glimpse of his disappearing silhouette before shrugging it off.
As she exited the room after collecting her schedule she heard the bell ring. And she hurried to her class using the directions she had received from the registrar.
As she walked into the class she saw the same teacher that helped her. She smiled. But almost immediately she also saw the jerk that she ran into. Ah, why??? Her expression immediately changed. He was being introduced by the teacher as well which meant he was also new. After the jerk walked to his seat, she handed the paper with her details to the teacher and he also introduced her to the class and asked her to sit in front of Hakim Iroshi, that was the name of that jerk.
She really wanted to ask the teacher why she had to sit there. But she obediently walked over to where was told and sat down.
The class continued without any drama.
Halfway through the class a sheet of paper landed on her desk. She opened it and it had just one word scribbled on it.
"Hey"
Skylar turned to the direction that the note came from and she saw the girl beside her smiling at her. She smiled back. The girl was really cute and her smile was genuine. The girl mouthed the word "Maddie"
Skylar understood that it was her name. This time Skylar was the one to smile brightly. Maddie seemed to be a prospective friend. Not long after the introduction the bell rang signifying lunch break. Maddie stood up from her chair and walked over to Skylar's seat. Skylar who was getting ready to get up extended a hand to her in an attempt to shake her and she took it.
