Chapter 5 - Chapter Five

As I ran through the forest with the scientist boy, the only things I could hear were our footsteps and the birds having their never-ending conversations.

After an hour of traveling through the forest, we came to a clearing. It was filled with moss, and there was a spot of a light in the middle (not including the speckles of light around it).

"We should rest here tonight," I suggested casually, little did scientist boy know, if he didn't agree, he would be forced to stay here.

He shyly nodded his head.

Rolling my eyes, I asked, "What do you want?".

For a brief mooment, shock filled his face, the next it was gone. Kind of like a lightning bolt, it's as clear as can be, lighting up the sky, and then….it's just, gone. Except, it wasn't a lightning bolt, and his face is not the sky.

"Why do you trust me?!?!," he blurted out.

"I didn't trust you, until you asked that,' I responded calmly.

"Then WHY take me with you?!," he asked, unable to understand.

"It's clear to me, you have been spending too much time with that manic, after you freed me, you would have been killed," I responded. My voice getting darker as I continued talking.

He looked down at his feet, as if he was ashamed about something, even though he had no reason to be ashamed. But I do have one question, that might, that might be important to know...for the future. Since that seems to be something that I have to worry about now. I forced myself to smile. Unless.....I want to give up, and just become a lab rat. I mean, I lost to what I am, fire. It's my fault that they are dead. If they were alive still, would they even still love me. Or would they hate me like I do, because they died just because I wanted some stupid kettle corn. Tears quickly streamed down my cheeks, probally trying to escape from me. I would too, if I could. But I am trapped inside my selfish persanlatiy, that I can't change. It's all my fault they died. My life is pointless, I should just give up.....and turn myself in.

No.....NO!!!! That isn't true, my family loves me. No matter what. If they heard me now. I smiled, dad would lightly slap my cheek, and give me a motivational speech. My sister would tell me that no matter how much it hurts fight back, an to never EVER, give up.

I opened my eyes, and stared defiantly at the trees, until the scientist boy interrupted me.

"Ummm?,.....are you ok?," he paused, "What is your name?", he finished.

Breaking my staring contest with the trees, I responded, "I'm fine, and my name is Lillac. I know I'm weird, you don't have to say it. If you are my companion, you will just have to get used to it."

He laughed, "I'm sure I will."

"Your not so bad as far as partner's go, what's-your-name," I complimented.

He blushed, "Sage."

"Well, It's nice to finally know your name, Sage. But I think It's time we whent to sleep, so that we can find a town or something tomorrow," I responded.

Sage raised his eyebrows, and playfully mocked, "Or something?".

Pushing his head against the ground, I commanded, "Sleep."

Trying to muffle his laughter, he slowly whent to sleep.

* * *

Sage woke me up, by forcefully shaking me. From the blurry hint of sun, in the mostly dark distance, I assumed it was around 2:30 in the morning.

All of my grogginess, quickly whent away, like it was never there.

I opened my mouth to shout at him, but he quickly covered my mouth, muffling my voice.

Quieter than I thought possible, Sage whispered, "We are being followed."
